GE Ice Dispensers Serve Up More Than Ice

Quite a few things can go wrong with GE refrigerators and, as the complaints in this section show, getting problems fixed is anything but easy.

A few recent complaints ...

Wayne of Chandler AZ (08/31/08)
In the last 2yrs I have had my fridge go out and now the washer (#WPRB8050. These days the Profile name is useless. I am now facing the reality that I am going to have to pay for another service call and hope that the tube and the electrical issue is covered under the warranty. I just hate it because companies no-longer stand behind their product and I really like the GE design (hence why I furnished my whole house with their appliances) but I now have to find another company to buy appliances from.

I will never purchase another GE appliance no matter how cheap it is and I can only hope that this message with prevent another person from going through the same. This page of complaints is long for a reason and it is not because we have nothing better to do with our time.

The thing that sucks is that I am now going to have to pay 70 bucks for someone to come out and tell that it is broke (which I already am aware of)then depending on the cost to fix I might have the pleasure of forking over some more money. I just hate it because companies no longer stand behind their product and I really like the GE design (hence why I furnished my whole house with their appliances) but they suck so I now have to find another company to buy appliances from.

I, unfortunately, purchased a GE refrigerator in 2003. This piece of junk is, without a doubt the very WORST appliance I have ever owned. The bottom part which holds the crispers are made of cheap plastic what cracks and shatters to the point where there is nothing left to hold the crispers in place. They are now sitting on the floor of the refrigerator.

We have no small children who abuse the refrigerator; it has been subjected to normal use and yet it is literally falling to pieces. I used to think that GE was a good brand of appliance, but no more. I would never buy ANYTHING made by GE. Is their junk made in China?

Cheap plastic becomes brittle from cold and shatters and/or falls apart. Must now buy a new refrigerator to replace this VERY INFERIOR appliance.

Last January I puchased a GE Profile side-by-side refrigerator Model # PSS23MSW. The on going problem with this refrigerator is an intermittent loud vibrating/clicking noise coming from the freezer compartment along with frost/ice build up right under the icemaker. The noise first started right after the refrigerator was delivered last February. The first service call for this problem was on February 18, 2008.

In March the ice maker quit and was then replaced on March 21. In April this second ice maker quit and was replaced by yet another on April 18th. The intermittent loud vibrating/clicking noise became noticeable once again. On June 14th the repairman came out and replaced the fan in the freezer to correct the intermittent vibrating/clicking noise coming from the freezer compartment. Within 48 hours the intermittent noise was back.

My next call for service was on Monday, June 16th. To date his refrigerator has required six service calls and the next call, the seventh, is scheduled for September 4th. I consider this refrigerator a lemon and would like it replaced with a new one. The total number of service calls which include multiple replacements of the ice maker and multiple attempts to correct the loud vibrating/clicking noise coming from the freezer compartment are definite quality issues with this refrigerator. For these service calls I have had to take time off work which is quite costly to me and my employer. I will never purchase another GE appliance and always warn others against purchasing a GE appliance.

I am going to start telling everyone how lousy GE products have become. We purchased a refrigerator in October 2005. By 2007, refrigerator was no longer freezing and was leaking all over the hardwood in kitchen. It has destroyed the hardwood floor where it sits. We contacted the store we purchased the product from as it was still under warranty. They sent out a GE tech who replaced a part.

Three weeks later, refrigerator was not working again, GE tech came out and replaced another part. 11 months later, Refrigerator is not cooling again, we get another GE tech. Only this time, the warrantee has expired. We find that the door is defective and there was a recall on the product for which it was publicly announced and we should hav known about this.

However, the question is: We called the store and questioned why the technicians from GE did not tell us and were given the answer that they probably did not know. Our response was: how the hell should we have known when they claim the three technicians who serviced the refrigerator did not know. Do they think we were born yesterday? The technicians knew but tried to get the fridge operating until the recall had expired. Bad, bad, bad. This is why our country is in decline. Shoddy workmanship and no accountability. Both my husband and I are in upper management and work with the public. We are going to let everyone know how GE operates. Dawn in Oakland, NJ

From water under the refrigerator, hardwood has been damaged and this is the second time we have lost a freezer full of food. I am aggravated.

Well it seems like 2-3 years is the magic number here. I have a GE artica side by side model PSS26SGRE SS and the water and ice dispensor were the first to go, next the contol panel where the temperature is changes and now today the only thing that seems to work are the dome lights. No more cooling or freezing. If it starts with the ice/water dispenser, I think there is trouble abound!

I called customer service last week and there are surprisingly no service technicians in our area and there have been no recalls on my frige. I told them I was scared it was going to cause a fire because it keeps whirring and making a funny noise going on and off. The person seemed to have no concern and told me to look in the yellow pages for a tech certified with GE repair. since my warranty expired advising me to call a local appliance techinician was all they offered me but they did take my name, address and Im sure they have my phone call recorded right along with all the other people who've had faulty refrigorators. This is certainly a consumer affair worth checking into!! What does it take to issue a recall anyway?

I have 4 children and a VERY tight budget. The risk of my children getting sick from spoiled food is priceless. We paid over 1500 brand new at Sears in Oct 2006. Food loss so far is near 300. I STILL HAVE MY RECEIPT, can I return it to Sears so they can deal with it? Perhaps retailers who have knowledge of frequent repairs and problems but still sell faulty products should be held liable for this too? Im sure Sears is doing well with the GE repair services right now since the mother boards life span is 2 years at the greatest! I remember strange things like the Sears associate telling us our model was a top of the line! Ba Humbug!!
