GE Ice Dispensers Serve Up More Than Ice

Quite a few things can go wrong with GE refrigerators and, as the complaints in this section show, getting problems fixed is anything but easy.

A few recent complaints ...

Sally of Palisade CO (08/19/08)
1400 GE Frig purchased. It quit working 8/1/08..There have been 4 service calls as of today 8/20/08. Still not freezing. Repairman believes the system is contaminated by the melt down of the system... GE tells me they will not do anything but send repair service. Spoke to Chimere and LaVon at Customer Service at 1800 386 1215 GE telling them I need a refrigerator...all food ruined, kitchen floor discolored and burned from refrig. heat. Asked to speak to CEOs Ray Graft or Jeff Immelt and they would not give out their numbers. I see on line there are more complaints on GE Refrigerators.

I have an 8 year old side by side GE Refrigerator that has rust on the ice cube storage, doesn't cool properly, frost on coils in freezer, overflow tray full, and the compressor temperature was 242 F on the outside. I had a service call from a repairman (not a GE repairman), who suggested that I just purchase a new refrigerator rather than try to replace all of the problems with the GE model. Guess the manufacturer from which I will not be purchasing my next refrigerator...

Lynda of Tavernier, FL August 19, 2008

The refigerator stops working, shuts off. This is the second refrigerator(same model) and it is doing what the last one did. I have had repair, they replaced the computer board. Moisture is building up by the door and they say it is shorting out the panel. The repair man also stated the problem is because my house isn't aircondtioned. I want to see on the purchase agreement where it say this refrigerator will not work at a non air conditioned house. I lost over 5000.00 in food last go around and I am not willing to do it again

Loss of food. Food not staying at the correct temperature

I have been having problems with my GE refrigerator for 2 months. I have model GSH22JFTACC. When it goes into derfrost it melts evertything on the top two shelves. this includes my ice- i melts into huge balls of ice and will not dispense through the ice maker. I have had 5 service calls. No one can fix or figure out. One tech first said I left the door open, the second time he came he admitted the defrost got my freezer to 70 degrees, but said that was normal. No that is not normal that is what is melting my ice and food on the top shelves. I am feed up. I will never buy GE again!!

Eden of Playa Vista, CA August 12, 2008

Eden of Playa Vista CA (08/12/08)
We bought a house that came with a custom built GE Monogram refrigerator which retails for more than 5000. The fridge never worked right. As other GE complaints say, the fan motor broke. The fridge was never cold enough. The freezer did not freeze right. It is a disaster. It came with a 5 year warranty. However, GE Monogram refuses to honor the warranty and refuses to fix the fridge.

The fridge is less than 5 years old and cost 5000 + yet does not work right. I have lost approximately 6000.
