A few recent complaints ... Bhupen of Gaithersburg, MD August 19, 2009 I have GE refrigerator bought in 2003, Model # GSS25JEMAWW Serial # FA243148 Which was in class action lawsuit and it expire. I did not know about this and GE did not inform me I have serval repair on this model like replaced main electronic board, water dispenser frizz up, In side of the freezer door had ice build up. I called Ge they are offering 400 coupon toward buying new refrigerator from their web side. Or I Pay for new design Door cost me 600and they will install free. If I buy new refrigerator from there web side ,I checked price ,even after 400 coupon still they are very hi .I told them If they send me coupon I will buy from local store like sears or Home depot. But no luck Richard of Chula Vista, CA August 16, 2009 I purchased a new GE Profile side by side refrigerator Oct 2008. There is a problem with excessive noise every time water is sent to the icemaker. The noise last for about 10 seconds, can be heard in every room of our 2600 SQ FT home, and will drown out TV, music or conversation. It's untolerable and imbarrasing when entertainin GE has sent techs on 5 occasions to fix the noise. They replaced the icemaker and the valve that send the water to the icemaker. Unfortunately, the problem continues. It occurs about every 3 hours. GE says they cannot do any more to fix the noise. The techs were never present during the noise so they do not know how excessive the noise is and are not willing to wait to hear the noise. So, according to GE Customer relations, the refigerator is operating as intended and I have no recourse. So, I want to make people aware that GE fields refrigerators with obvious defects without taking effective actions to fix the problem. I have an entire kitchen full of new GE appliances, but I can promise I will never purchase another GE product or any product affiliated with GE. Diane of West Columbia, SC August 15, 2009 We purchased this refrigerator about 4 yrs ago. Less than a year after we purchased this refrigerator the drawers and the glass tops needed to be replaced. The part that attaches to the wall of the refrigerator that holds the drawer in place was broken. These were replaced but some of them broke again. Also the walls of the refrigerator have cracks all the way across the back. There are several places that this happened. We called about this and we were told that these are stress cracks. We did not purchase this item this way so this should be replace at no cost to me. Nothing was done to fix this and we still had a warranty at that time. Now the cool panel is completly out. It just seems to be one thing after another to fix. I would not buy another GE product. Vicki of Inverness, FL August 15, 2009 #TBX25PRBSRB Model side by side. Cannot use the ice and water dispenser as the taste and smell is awful. I have called the local company that sold us the refrigerator and am always told it must be our water. It's not as the tap water tastes just fine. I see online that many people have had this problem. They charged over 3000 for this refrigerator - you should at least be able to use all of it! Melinda of Katy, TX August 15, 2009 Bought a GE Energy Star Refrigerator Gss25tsw side by side with Ice maker in the door. We have owned this for about 18 mths the icemaker stopped dispensing ice about 3 mths ago and Friday the fridge stopped cooling. Called a repairman, compressor went out, he stated he has seen this a lot. 547.00 later. I was checking for recall notices but found this site. I owned a Kenmore before this and it lasted 14 yrs I will never buy a Ge again. Jo of Waldorf, MD August 13, 2009 I bought my house new in October 2002. The appliances were considered an "upgrade". Since 2002 I have replaced my ice machine once and replaced the defroster heater twice. each time for the defroster heater it cost 300.00. I will NEVER buy another GE appliance again. I talked to my neighbor and she is having the same problems. As for the ice machine, it will not dispense cube ice only crushed ice and the sound it makes when dispensing is awful. It is so loud you cannot have a converstion or hear the t.v. Nancy of Plymouth, MI August 10, 2009 We purchased a GE side-by-side refrigerator/freezer in August 2008. In June 2009 the ice maker stopped making ice. A repair person from GE came out and replaced the "rake" on the ice maker and the next day it made one tray of ice and stopped working. I called for service again. This time the repairman said the tray was overfilling and freezing over so the ice could not drop into the bin. He defrosted it and again, we got one tray of ice and it stopped working. I had a third repairman come out who replaced the whole ice maker...we didn't even get one tray of ice this time! Through the entire process the ice maker has made a sound like the motor is straining. None of the repairmen seem to think this is a problem?? I called the customer relations department and spoke to a representative who suggested we send our case before GE's review board and request a replacement refrigerator. I found out today that our request was denied and it was suggested to me that I schedule another service call.
Suzanne of La Mirada, CA August 10, 2009 Purchased GE Monogram 48" built in side by side refrigerator freezer in 2003. 15 months after installation had major compressor repair. Have replaced 3 door shelf bins because of cracking. Today, compressor is out again. I am not going to repair this piece of junk, and will never by a GE product again. Margaret of Severna Park, MD August 8, 2009 We purchased a refrigerator with an icemaker from Bray and Scarff in Bowie Town Center in Bowie, MD. The purchase was made in Jan of 2007. We purchased a 5 year warranty at the same time so all service would be covered until 2012. The ice maker has never functioned properly and goes totally empty at least twice a week. I have had the repair man out 7 times in the last 2 months. It works for a couple of days then stops again. They have totally replaced the ice maker at least 2 times so it is obvious it will never fuction properly. I talked with tech 5 yesterday who was scheduled to come between 1 and 5PM. He called and said he refused to come as our ice maker was funcitoning normally for it's design but does have a design flaw. The icemaker drawer tilts down in the back causing the ice to sit in the back and kick the arm up. He stated there is no way to fix the design flaw. Consequently, I need to climb up on a chair and push the ice forward several times a day. I am 65 and have 2 knee replacments. Climbing up on a chair is very hazardous as I could easily fall and cause a serious injury - most likely a broken hip. I also have osteopenia according to my last bone scan. I have osteoarthritis which resulted in both of my knee replacements. I use ice frequently as a treatment for the arthritic pain that I continue to have from the disease process. I have been an ER RN for 24 years so am very familiar with the hazards of falls to the elderly. Tech #5 told me several of his other customers had the same ice maker. They also had the same unresolved problem. He also stated that GE was aware of the design flaw. Since the icemaker cannot be fixed and GE knowingly sold me a refrigerator with a design flaw I would like them to replace it with one that does not tilt downward in the back kicking the arm up so it then thinks it is full of ice. They have refused to do this and the service man is now refusing to come out when the appliance is still under warranty. I would also like to prevent GE from knowingly selling defective ice makers to innocent elderly population who are not able to safely climb up on chairs day in and day out when a functioning icemaker was paid for. Roger of Palos Verdes Estates, CA August 8, 2009 Our 4 year old GE profile (freezer drawer on bottom) has failed 3 times in the past 8 months. Always the same problem - freezer too cold and refrigerator too warm (room temp). First they replaced the control board at a cost of 279.23, two weeks later they replaced the thermister, and this time (6 months later) they said it is a problem with this refrigerator and you must pull the freezer drawer all the way out with both hands on the middle and push it closed the same way every time you open it. We were actually charged 185.93 for the service man to tell us how to hold the door handle with both hands. what a crock! This is the worst refrigerator we have ever owned and we are disgusted with the utter disregard for customer service by GE. Report Your Experience
