Global Security

Lancaster, PA

Brenda of Mount, PA, writes:
On March 3,1999 a sales rep. from Global Security visited our home and demonstated home fire extinguishers and asked us if we would be interested in purchasing any equipment.

Both myself and my future husband were impressed with the merchandise and placed an order of 2 fire extinguishers,1 smoke detector, 1 life ladder, 1 quart of flame proof spray.

We wrote a check for a total of $594.31 for the products and to cover shipping charges. The sales rep stated that it would take 6 to 8 weeks for the merchandise to arrive at our home.

After 8 weeks we still did not have our mechandise and the check had already been cleared through the bank. We sent the company a letter (since there was no phone # available) with a copy of the receipt stating that we never received the products or anything stating the items were on backorder.

After waiting for 2 weeks without a response, we called Information and got a phone #. We called the company and explained that we never received our merchandise and they said that someone from the shipping dept. would call us back that day. We never got a call from anyone.

After a week of waiting I called again and got the same runaround. I stated to the lady that I have tried several times to contact someone and that now I would just like to receive my money back for the products I pais for and never got. She simply stated that she would speak to someone but she doubted that it would be possible to get my money back.

I am still waiting for her to call back. Is there anything I can do to get my money back?

We spoke to an executive of the company, a Mr. Paul Janoski, who told us the order has been shipped "2 or 3 times" and has been returned each time because it was refused or no one was home.

Janoski said the order form that Brenda signed states that there is a three-day cancellation policy. After three days, the order can't be canceled, he said. This is another good reason not to buy from high-pressure salespeople who come to your home.
