Haier touts itself as being the world's 4th-largest whitegoods manufacturer. It is also one of China’s Top 100 IT Companies. Like many Asian companies, it does a lot of everything -- manufacturing, financial services, you name it.
Most American consumers are likely to encounter Haier's appliances and consumer electronics products, sold under its own name and those of some of its 240 subsidiary companies.
Richard of Rock Island IL (06/25/08) The Haier Dehumidifier Model HDN305 that I purchased May 21, 2006, from my local Target store failed while barely into it's third summer season (only got about 7 months total use out of it). The odd size 12A Fuse (clipped into a fuse holder on the Printed Circuit Board located inside the unit's casing) blew. I stated odd size 12A because 10A and 15A are the closest common sizes I could find locally, and Haier parts, nor the National Appliance Distributors parts warehouses I found online have the replacement 12A fuse available in stock. I tried the 10A, but those blew immediately upon running the unit.
My local appliance repair store quit repairing the units 4 years ago, even though Haier still referred me to them. Still, there's no assurance that the unit will not immediately blow a 12A fuse even if I could get one in a reasonable amount of time. And, I cannot get anyone to answer the Haier Customer Satisfaction Center phone number listed on their Owner's Manual to file this complaint. I just get continuous recordings while placed on an indefinite hold.
Had to purchase a new dehumidifier, not a Haier! If this case has enough merit for small claims court, I have my own attorney who will review this.
Joyce of Flossmoor IL (05/22/08) Bought 2 of them as gifts. One I found out after a month it didn't work and I was able to return it. The other was not used for 2 years but only worked for 3 weeks. Since neither of them worked, it's obvious they produce flawed products. I will NEVER BUY ANOTHER PRODUCT FROM THIS COMPANY! I have sent emails, made phone calls, and, no answer.
Shanan of Glendale AZ (05/06/08) My husband bought me a Haier Electronic Coffee Maker as a gift from Macy's for Christmas 2007. After about 4 months, I went to start a fresh pot of coffee one morning and the carafe cracked all the way across the bottom. The manual that accompanied the product stated that prior to contacting customer service I would need my model number, the name of store it was purchased, and the date it was purchased.
So, armed with the required information, I proceed to call customer service. I was told that they could not replace just the carafe, but would send me a new machine for $25. I asked why it would be $25 if the product was in fact under warranty? 'That cost is to cover shipping'. Undoubtedly, I do not want to pay an additional $25 on top of the $60 already spent to purchase the product, regardless of whether or not I'm getting an entirely new machine. I could buy a new machine by a different manufacturer for far less. Apparently, based on the other posts I've read, this seems to be a recurring problem with these coffee pots.
As a result, I have an electric coffee maker with no carafe that is unusable. It will not take any other carafe. It will have to be thrown away. I CAN opt to pay the $25 and get a whole new machine, but will still be left with the unusable base from my original one. I would prefer, at this point, to purchase a new machine from a different manufacturer, as I will NOT give one more penny to Haier, only to have to do this again in another 4 months.
Bruce of Jacksonville NC (05/03/08) 42EP24S PLASMA SCREEN TV purchased at Sears and screen went out only 1 year after purchase.
LOST $1,400.00
Lynn of Ponte Vedra Beach FL (04/22/08) In November 2006, I also bought the Haier Plasma TV, model #42HP25BAT for $1,300.00 from Office Depot for a family Christmas gift. Didn't even open it until Christmas. In May 2007, the TV made a popping sound and there was no picture. After numerous calls, parts that could not be delivered, etc., a lot of arguing, and 4 months later Haier replaced the TV with a USED TV - I didn't know that when I agreed to the replacement. Anyway, 6 months after that on 4/21/2008, same pop sound and no picture with the USED REPLACEMENT TV. I just talked to Haier customer service and they recommend I take it to the repair shop (on my dime) since it's So far out of warranty ! ... The original agent I spoke to said the warranty went on hold during the repair period ! Dave, a Haier customer service supervisor, then said he knew nothing about a holding period when a product was in service. Dave, the supervisor would not and did not take ownership of the problem - did not care that I was an irate customer - claimed to have no authority to fix my problem - and again, could have cared less.
Joseph of St. Louis MO (04/08/08) I bought Electric coffee maker from Macys on Oct.15, 2008. My wife broke the Carafe. They would not sell the Carafe, I would buy the entire electric maker to get the carafe. I am just now telling you this as it happened in Nov when I contacted Haier. I could get no satisfaction all I got was a runaround. The carafe had a unique shape it would not take any other carafe.
I bought a Mr. Coffee, well made by comparison. I,m out the cost of Haier coffee maker $59.99 and paid $ 79.99 for a much better coffee maker.
Larry of Deland FL (01/10/08) In November of 2006, I purchased a Haier Plasma 42 Television, model #42HP25BAT for $1,300.00. After several weeks of problems with screen distortion I contacted HaierAmerica on November 12, 2007. They had a local serice technician come to my home and take pictures of my television screen. This occurred on Nov. 14, 2007. Since that date I cannot get my television repaired. I get all types of excuses from customer service and their tech support refuses to return my phone calls. This has been going on daily for over 7 weeks. Now customer support will not even have a supervisor return my phone calls.
I am 51 years old and have had dealings with many manufacturers. However, Haier warranty policies and customer service is the worse I have ever dealt with and they lied and made excuses trying to prevent them from fulfilling their warranty promise and repairing their products. I have also emailed Haier outside the United States in an unsuccessful attempt to get someone to contact me that can help me with this problem. I'm out $1,300 with a lousy television and a manufacture that does not care. It will take a law suit to get Haier's attention and to get them to do anything to have my television repaired. 4 emails, 27 phone calls to them (getting voicemail or a unknowledgeable person who takes messages that are never returned) and $1,300 for nothing.
Chanda of Fairmount ND (12/13/07) I purchased a Haier microwave in Dec. 2005 (mfg on July 2004). Used the microwave for the past 2 years or so, and one day while using, the inside of the microwave started on fire. Luckily, I was not far away and was able to get the fire out and contained it only to the microwave. I then called the company. After being on hold for about 10 mins., I talked to one of the supervisors. Gave her all the info (model#, serial #, name address, etc.) only to find out that since I didn't have a receipt [Who keeps their receipts for 2 years waiting for their micro to start on fire?], they probably couldn't do anything about it. But I am still supposed to send it in (along with all the info I already gave them), and they may be able to give me a comparable one.
I'm out of a microwave, possible fire hazard for others...want to be sure that others know this may happen with this unit.
Sharon of Spotyslvania VA (11/21/07) I purchased a water cooler Model #WDQS015 in 2005 at Staples. On 11/18/07, the water reserved bottle became so hot the the water boiled and melted the bottle at the neck and leaked in the inside. This is a fire hazard, this needs to be investigated and possible recall to prevent future loss of homes or possible life. If we had not been at home, we would have lost everything.
Alfred of New Lenox IL (11/19/07) The Haier 455 dehumidifier purchased in Target, April 2006, quit March 2007. I was unable to get it serviced and Haier refused to replace it; so did Target. The 455 was a bad model and was replaced by the 556. It has since been discarded into the trash! I refuse to buy any other Haier products! I am out $138.00 and am very aggravated!
Dick of Shell Knob MO (10/12/07) bought a 19 inch durabrand tv model number BH 200 4D Had trouble with the remote tried all universal with no luck, Have called the customer service at Haier America and they keep you on hold by running you through the Departments You cannot talk to a physical person.
Joseph of Brooklyn NY (06/15/06) I bought 2 Haier air conditioners in June of 2005 and subsequenty the knobs on both of them broke. I called in July of 2005 and was promised they would be replaced. When I called a second time about 2 months later I was told the knobs are on back order. I have called several times after complaining about not receiving anything.I was told they will be shipped out right away. To date, I have not received anything. I recently called again and some called me back saying that they were shipped out a year ago and they have USPS tracking number. I insisted that I never received anything. They then told me that since it is now almost a year after the purchase the warranty is over and I would hve to pay for the knobs. I complained that it was not fair since I never received the knobs and I called when the warranty was in effect the knobs should be covered.
Glenn of Murfreesboro TN (05/11/06) Received recall on tower fan which we purchased in store at Linens & Things: Fan Model #FTM125GG, due to electrical problem that may cause a fire. We sent the electrical plug attached to 8 inches of electrical wire as they requested. We also paid for the shipping of the cord. Now they want to give a $30.00 credit which MUST be used to ORDER another product from their company, AND WE must pay the cost of the same product at their current rate of $39.99. The same product should be replaced at NO COST. We feel that this is not an unreasonable reauest and should be resolved promptly.
We have had much difficulty in getting Mr. Olson to return our calls to resolve this matter. This problem has been ongoing since 1 January 2006 with no satisfactory resolution.
Sandhya of Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India (04/07/06) We purchased a Haier AC model HW18VX worth Rs.14500/- on the 12th March. The piece given to us was faulty and we did not use it for a single hour from the time of purchase. Not a single person gives us correct information or service. We just get rerouted from one service person to another. No communication from their end at any time. Contacted TMC Hyderabad from where the instrument was purchased and they say Haier is responsible. Contacted the Haier executives and they ask us to call TMC. Spoke innumberable times to Mahesh - 040 55454581, Sekhar - 9885370413, TMC executives - 040 27766411, 040 27766422, Babu Rao - 040 55194582. We only go in loops and circles without any service or communication. Looks like the summer will come to an end before we can get any of these buggers to replace / repair the AC.
Huge amount paid, lot of tension, money spent of phone calls, loss of time, frustration and irresponsible responses
Jin of Flushing NY (07/12/03) The machine is not working after 4 months. Its under FULL one-year warranty.
Ive been calling them everyday and every time they told me that somebody will call me back before 5pm but nothing has happened.
They also give me all the service centers phone number even including New Jersey service centers. But they are either not Haier service center or they dont provide service for dehumidifier.
Since Haier can not provide service for their dehumidifier, they should not be selling it in NYC with full one year and limited five year warranty.
Now is the worst time for not having a dehumidifier in basement. My basement is super humid and mold started to grow, the humidity may attract insect like termite as well.
