Home Depot No-Interest Promotions |

I purchased a tractor in 12-24-03. The advertisement was if you put it on your Home Depot card that you would have no payments or interest until Jan 2005. When I received my bill it said that if you do not pay by Jan 2005 then there is accrued interest on every month since you purchased the tractor. This is deceiving the people and I called Home Depot and they said tough luck. I have a Sears account and they do not have accrued interest. I was taken advantage of. Now instead of waiting until January when next tax season is, I have to pay nearly $100.00 a month. It is a burden for me. Jocelyn of New York NY )10/24/03):
When I received my next statement from Home Depot, it showed I had a minimum of a $10 payment due. I called the Home Depot credit card number and spoke with a service representative who stated that it should have been included in the no payments, no interest campaign and not to send the payment. She said she would make the adjustments to the account. When I received the next 5 statements, I made the same phone call each month with the EXACT same results the service representative told me to disregard the bill, that they would take care of it. In May, 2003, I received a notice from a collection agency on behalf of Monogram Credit Card Bank of Georgia regarding my account with Home Depot. It stated that my account had been sold to them and the balance was now $2673.53. The balance with Home Depot was only $2099.23 which was not supposed to be due until July 3, 2003 based on the one year, no payments, no interest campaign. I discussed this matter with Fran Bogen at Farrell & Seldin Attorney at Law Collection Agency. At the time, I was 8 months pregnant and could not personally handle the stress of the situation, so I settled the matter for $2138.82. It has now come to my attention that this collection is being falsely reported on my credit report. It is showing up as late payments as well. I have always maintained a credit score in the mid-700s (considered excellent). It is now only 675 because of this! I am buying a house now and it is going to cost me an addition point at closing because of the low credit score over $6700! Robert of Tallahassee FL (10/1/03):
Since I had not received my first statement after the promo ended, I made a $100 payment in good faith. When the bill came in I figured it was no big deal and I would make up the difference the next month. Then the calls started. One at 8:45am on Saturday morning and another at 8:30pm at night. I'm paying off the account with another loan but I would advise anyone thinking about a home improvement loan with Home Depot to take a hard look at their program. I like Home Depot but won't shop there anymore. Its Lowe's for me. The only thing wrong with Robert's solution, of course, is that Monogram Credit Card Bank provides the store-brand credit cards for both Home Depot and Lowe's. Melissa of Fayetteville NC (7/7/03):
But at the same time my grandmother became ill and was put in the hospital, found out she had cancer in every portion of her body and died less than 24 hours after her first treatment. I totally forgot about the bill. Yes it was my fault. I get the July bill on the 3rd, exactly 14 days after the June payment was due. There is a late fee of $25 due so I go to my computer and sign into my bank, send a $35 payment to HD. Of course it is a holiday the next day so my payment won't post until Monday and get to HD until Tues or Weds the following week but I'm paid and only a little over 2 weeks past due on 1 payment. Now here is the kicker...on Saturday July 5th, I receive a call at 11:40 I answer it, they ask for my husband (he's the primary card holder) I say he's not here and before I can get out the rest of what I wanted to say, the girl says "thanks we'll call back"! Then on Sunday, 9:15am they call back again, same thing happens. Then I leave for most of the day, while I am gone, they call 10:18, 11:07, 11:41, 2:50, 3:29, 3:58, 4:31, 5:00. Then Monday morning 8:50 am, after a night being up until 3am or later with stomach illness, they wake me up!! The conversation went like this "lady asks for my husband, he's not here ma'am, he's deployed fighting a war. Then she asks for me, this is me, she starts to ask me like 20 questions to verify that and I cut her short and ask who she is calling with and what she wants, well there is a payment past due blah blah and I cut her off again and tell her that it was only 2 weeks past due when I received the July bill and I immediately paid it but because of the freakin' holiday they won't have their money until Tues or Weds. And that I didn't apprecaite being woke up for a bill that wasn't even 30 days late, I could understand 100 calls a day if I was 30, 60 or 90 days but I wasn't and I'm sorry I forgot, but my husband is off fighting a war, I had to quit my job to stay home with our daughter because she was tramautized by him deploying again for the 2nd time in less than 3 years and didn't want me leaving to work everyday, then my grandmother found out she had cancer and died all within a matter of 2 or 3 weeks in June and that kind of took precedence over everything!" She was like UH UH and just hung up on me. They are harrasing people with these consistent phone calls and making us feel like criminals just ebcause we forgot a payment and it was NOT even 30 days late...things happen but I got the next bill, noticed the payment was not made and made the June and July payments immediately, so why is that not sufficient for them to trust people. Call me whent he July payment is not made, call me when the first payment is over 30 days late, don't call when I am only 15 days late and call 10 times in 1 day. Report Your Experience
