Marc of Palm Desert, CA October 7, 2009 This is another complaint about a Kitchenaid Standmixer, model K45SS. It leaks oil, out of the 1 year warranty period. Called the company. Got the standard line: Mixer must be run 2-3 minutes a week to avoid leaks. Nothing appears in writing about it in their manual. Oil leaks into food are dangerous. Please report these to the Consumer Products Safety Commission. After calling their service center a second time, after seeing all the complaints on this board, I informed them of my report to the CSSC. They said they would send a "return repair kit". I could send it in for repairs and if it was determined to be "defective" they would pay for the repair. The representative would not state that this is, in fact a "defect" and that I would be charged to have it inspected and repaired if it was not. Cost, anywhere from 50 to 150. I would be charged to ship it back if it wasn't defective and I decide not to have it repaired. Cookie of Maple Grove, MN October 6, 2009 I rarely bake. But on a whim, I bought a kitchen aid mixer as a birthday present. I used it three or four times to make cookies over a period of years. The fourth time I used it I realized it was leaking oil from the bottom. Of course the warranty was over. I couldn't find anyone to fix it. it sat for another year until I came across a local person who could fix it. The same night I found this website. After I finished reading the reviews here, I realize what lemons these are. What a bunch of hype they are. I'll stick with the handheld Sunbeam beaters my mother-in-law bought in the 60's. They still work fine and she baked often. I regret I donated her mixer, it worked fine. I fell for the hype and the design. A class action suit sounds good. Margaret of Rayne, LA October 2, 2009 I was searching the web to see if others had the same problem with their KitchenAid Mixer and me---- UNBELIEVABLE! I found this sight and cannot believe that we are all having the same problems! I have the mixer with the bowl lift---and the motor is making a loud cracking sound and the speed does not EVER (and has never) gone on LOW....it goes from Med to HIGH ... very few "in between speeds"! I noticed on a particular (and famous) TV cooking show, this particular well-known chef USED to use KitchenAid mixers only. Then a while back he mentioned how many of these mixers he has gone through???? If they are so good, NO ONE should be going through mega mixers! I paid a fortune for mine and have no clue who can fix it??? I GUARANTEE that I will NEVER buy the KitchenAid Mixer again! In fact, that chef has changed and is now using another brand! I think I will write to his web page and ask what he thinks of his new brand! If you are reading this, DO YOUR RESEARCH and READ THE REVIEWS! Don't waste your money------ when that many people have the EXACT same problems on an item, I agree with the other person who compained: IT IS TIME FOR A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT AGAINST KITCHENAID! I will need another dishwasher soon and I won't get another KitchenAid again! They are VERY expensive and are not good about repairs and pricing of repairs! Caterina of Toronto, ON September 28, 2009 Two instances now with Whirlpool/ Kitchen Aid: (i) 4 year old Whirlpool refrigerator leaked water onto top shelf - very noisy - booked service call with Whirlpool - technician never showed up - called local appliance repair service who fixed the problem, albeit temporarily, however, problem returned. (2) purchased Kitchen Aid Accolade 400 stand mixer. Eager to test this out on cookie dough, assembled, plugged in and turned the speed knob - no action - I had just purchased a 300 mixer with a dead motor. Feel had and ripped off regarding the stand mixer - these are expensive items and to have to pack up a heavy stand mixer and ship back is very trying. Holly of Davie, FL September 3, 2009 I have had a Kitchenaid "Classic" stand mixer, model K45SS WH, Serial # 3494821 and despite the slower numbered speeds, seems it can only start on speed 3 which throws the food all over the counter. Also, most importantly, it oozes greasy smelly oil from where the beaters are attached and goes into the food. If you are making anything white, it will be completely speckled with gray/green flecks of oil. Ann of Alexandria, VA July 30, 2009 Approximately 5 years ago I purchased a KitchenAid bowl lift stand mixer, model KP26M1XPM. I already owned a KitchenAid mixer but it was over 30 years old and while it performed perfectly it did not look good in my renovated kitchen. I gave the old one to my daughter and it is still working while mine has burned out the motor twice. I took it to be repaired about 8 months ago because it was making a terrible noise. The repair shop, Appliance Fix It, said the plastic motor parts were bad and replaced the parts, unfortunately with more plastic since that was what was required. Less than 3 months later, the noise returned and I went back to Appliance Fix It. It was once again repaired, this time it was still under the shop warranty and there was no cost to me. It continues to make a terrible noise and I will eventually buy a new one. Scott of Sacramento, CA July 7, 2009 Summer of 2006 I purchased a KitchenAid Professional 575W 6 Qt stand mixer based on the brand reputation at that time. My wife and daughter began using it during the holidays that year and commented that with sticky doughs the beaters were pulled down and out. I sugested spraying them with vegitable oil spray which seemed to work. During the holiday season in 2008 my daughter told me that the beaters had stopped rotating and there was a "weird" noise comming from the mixer. I removed the motor cover and discovered that the Gearbox housing was cracked in multiple places allowing the gears to ride up and slip. Upon contacting KitchenAid I was informed that the mixer was no longer under waranty and I could have it repaired by the colsest facility, 150 miles away. Having been a mechanic I knew that I could replace the 25.00 part. I found out that the original part had been replaced with what seems to be a heavier duty casting. I don't know if it will suffice, but if it doesn't I will have a very expensive boat anchor. I will tell all I know NOT to buy KitchenAid products, nor will I ever buy that brand again. Rachel of Bangor, ME July 7, 2009 Have owned a large kitchenaid stand mixer my husband bought me several years ago. From the first it sounded like it was working very hard when mixing anything with any thickness and dripped oil from around the beaters. Because of this I have used it infrequently and thought I would get it repaired at some point. Today I googled kitchenaid repair and came across this site. After reading the previous comments, have decided it is not worth the effort and will dispose of it. I recently furnished a new kitchen and purchased a kitchenaid dishwasher. Am now sorry I did. M of Meridian , ID July 6, 2009 We owned a regular Kitchen Aid stand mixer for 13 years and LOVED it, but when we decided to upgrade to a heavy duty lift-stand mixer we've been very disappointed! I DO NOT RECOMMEND THESE 'HEAVY DUTY MIXERS' TO ANYONE who likes to cook using whole wheat. They can't handle double batches of 100% whole wheat bread. They can't handle the food grinder attachment for grinding wheat sprouts, or makind whole wheat pasta. At first it handles bread dough beautifully, but the gears start 'popping' after a year or so, and by then your warranty is expired. It's very discouraging to spend 400 for a mixer that can't do any more than the smaller, less expensive, models. These are NOT heavy duty mixers. You have to 'baby' them more than the smaller mixers. BEWARE wheat-savvy-cooks...This is NOT the appliance for you. carol of new kensington, PA June 21, 2009 the kitchaid pro 600 mixer this is the 3rd one I have had to send back to kitchaid the weight of the dough pulls the acuator the thing that holds the beats in down out of the base Kitchenaid customer service was decent replacing it the first time then got an attitude when I had to resend it back now this is the 3rd mixer from them and the same damn thing they need to put a screw in to hold the mechanics in like they do on there smaller mixers.
