Bruce of Roswell, GA November 27, 2008 Bruce of Roswell GA (11/27/08) Our washer has stopped working on numerous occasions. Sometimes the washer flashes an LE code. Other times it flashes an OE code -- which looks like a DE code, but isn't. (By the way, there is also a dE code). A washer with an LE code can usually be fixed by the owner, while a washer with an OE code can sometimes be fixed by the owner. Part of the problem is that this is an extremely high-maintenance product. The person who sold it to us at Best Buy forgot to mention that that you have to use high efficiency (HE) detergent, that you have to completely wipe down the rubber seal --and behind the rubber seal-- about every 4-5 washes with a mixture of bleach and water, that you have to clean out the hard-to-reach drain plug filter at least twice a month, and that it often takes 30 minutes or so to drain the water out of the washer whenever it stops working. When you have a problem and call the Customer Service line, the first thing that you hear is LG's chirpy slogan Life is Good!. Recently, after several hours on the phone, the customer service representative came to the conclusion that a service technician would be needed to fix my washer that had again stopped working. When I asked what he thought it would cost, he said he didn't know. (By the way, the customer service representives at LG are quite polite and friendly. They act genuinely surprised when you mention that you are having a problem with one of their products.) I then looked on the Internet. Apparently, a number of LG customers have had a problem similar to the one I experienced that resulted in the washer drain pump needing to be replaced. Parts and labor for this repair can be up to 1/2 of the cost of a new (non-LG) top-loading washer. Yesterday, I ordered a new (non-LG) top-loading washer at Home Depot. Next Thursday, my 2 and 1/2 year old LG washer will be carted away and junked. Life is good!
It is almost inconceivable to me how a company can sell a product that often doesn't work well --or work at all, for that matter-- but refuse to step up to the plate to help make things right.
Helen of Springfield, PA November 24, 2008 Helen of Springfield PA (11/24/08) Jennifer of Norman, OK November 23, 2008 Jennifer of Norman OK (11/23/08) I tried Allfresh, customer service said run Sanitizer cycle and bleach often. (this is a 2.5hr cycle)Wipe down the doors and rubber inside. My washer was just occasionly leaking out the front at that time, but now it leaks with every cycle and my clothes still smell. The MOLD is crazy and I am not sure why we all have to deal with these machines. What does it take to have a recall of a machine? MOLD? false advertisement? I was told I would save water, but in fact I have to use more now just to make sure my clothes and machine do not grow mold in them.
