LG Stinks. From all the complaints about the washing machine I own it will always stink. Will also follow up with the class action lawsuit listed in complaints. When large companies take advantage of the consumer with the defective products it sells they leave no options. I will never buy anything LG again from a cell phone to a TV or anything with LG on it. I am done with them.

Judy of Sycamore, IL September 4, 2009

We purchased a front loading LG washer and dryer. from the very beginning the washing cycles are over an hour. Some cycles even 2 hours. I couldn't figure out why the clothes were smelling sour. I kept asking my husband what could be causing the clothes and towels to stink as they do. I would rewash them over and over. sometimes zI would use our other washing machine and dryer, and they would still smell. But if I washed clothes with our washer downstairs, dish towels, etc., items that where on our first floor, there was no order. Now after reading complaints on the LG washer and dryer, I realize what the smell is all about. Plus our dryer isn't working after only 3 years and there's only two of us living here. The dryer doesn't heat up after 2 years with only 2 people living in the house. There is no reason why they can't build washer and dryers like they use to. I had my May Tags for a bit over 20 years raising 4 kids. Go back to the basic washer and Dryer. I will never buy or recommend a LG appliance.

Whatever you do DO NOT PURCHASE LG APPLIANCES!!! I purchased a refrigerator, a dishwasher, and washer and dryer from Store # 6372. Less than a year has passed and i have had the service representative at my house three times and counting, for my refrigerator. It's not even a year old. The corporate office hands me over to Mr. Glenn. He tells me i need to buy a extended warranty for my refrigerator. It's obviously a lemon. Three services in less than eight months. I explained that I did not purchase a refrigerator to have all these problems. He said there is nothing that he could do. Can you imagine that. I call the corporate office of LG, and they tell me, there is nothing they can do. Well the did actually. Sent me down the river. Well, here I am to tell my story. Hoping to deter anyone from purchasing an LG appliance. I'm actually going to put a sign in my front yard that says "Don't Buy LG Products" they stink! Ask Me!"

My washing machine stinks after using it. They tell me I need to leave the door open after using. Otherwise you have to go buy tablets to remove the smell from it. Run a cycle, use electric and water, so that it won't smell. Imagine that. Hey I'm buying a new car, and after I drive it, I need to open the hood and leave it open, so it won't smell. Wow! They sure don't tell you these things when you go to buy them. They should have installed a heating element to dry the washer after you use it. I guess not. Leave the door open, so you can bang into it! Well folks, I have not even hooked up the dish washer yet, do to construction. I'm sure I'm in for more grief as well! I called Home Depot and you know what they said. Sorry Pal.......... So please, whatever you do, Do yourself, and your wife or significant other, or family a huge favor, DON'T BUY LG APPLIANCES! You'll Regret it!

We bought an LG front-load washer from Best Buy in 2008. Soon after we purchased it, it started smelling like mold and soured clothes. We have tried cleaning out the rubber lip around the door. We leave the door open. We never leave wet clothes in it. We have run an empty load with bleach. Nothing works. The smell just keeps getting worse.

When people come over, they always ask about how I like my washer and I tell them we hate it. I regret buying it. With so many people having the exact same problem with this washer, you would think LG would do something about it. When a machine's sole purpose is to wash clothes and your clothes come out smelling like mold and mildew, there's something seriously wrong.

jim of Ellicott City, MD August 31, 2009

The machine started out working like a champ. Well it should have, you paid a little extra money for it. But, it looked good and the reviews (by the way who wrote these reviews, the company?...buyer beware!) were great. Then, your clothes started smelling a little funny. Your initial reaction was, I must have left the wet clothes sit too long in the washer. But then, the smell got worse and was more consistent. So, you got on the internet to see if you could find any information about it.

As it turns out, there are many people with the same problem with about as many solutions: Clean the drain and run a hot cycle, use bleach, use vinegar, wipe the gasket out and leave the door open after each use, buy a special product - it works wonders, etc. I bought a name brand at a reputable store, and, I paid a premium for the machine. I shouldn't have to do this. I have done more research (physical and digital) then I have should ever have had to do and this is what I have discovered: 1. The machine does work great...at first. 2. After each use, water accumulates in the rubber gasket that seals the door/drum. 3. Mold grows in the damp area created in the rubber gasket. OK, there's the problem.

Unfortunately, there isn't a magic solution. This washing machine has a design flaw (described above) that LG is, so far, unwilling to admit as it would lose much money refunding money to consumers for a defective product. There is at least one class action law suit that I am aware of (Jan 2008). I believe it was entered in court by a law firm from Ohio. Google LG washing machine lawsuit. I personally am opposed to class action lawsuits and I believe this country is in desperate need of Tort Reform. However, I also believe that this circumstance is one of those few times where a class action lawsuit is legitimate; LG produced and marketed a product that is defective and it appears the majority of consumers have the same problem.

In the interm there is only one solution. The rubber gasket must be removed and cleaned or replaced. The area around the drum must also be cleaned to remove all the mold. Some machines (such as was the case with mine) may find other problems: detergent build-up, clogged lines, etc. To take care of these problems, the front of the machine must be dis-assembled. This will require a licensed appliance repair technician or a handy-man who has a couple of tools.

After removing the gasket, I tried to soak it in Oxi-Clean in the sink for a couple of hours, scrub it, then soak it in fresh water for 24 hrs; didn't work. I bought a new gasket. Keep in mind, this machine has a design flaw. The problem will reoccur unless you keep the gasket dry after each use. I know this was a lengthy post, but I hope it helps a couple of folks who are pulling their hair out just trying to get what they paid for...a washing machine that washes clothes properly.

zahida of Brampton, ON August 29, 2009

When I purchased the set of washer/dryer, the persons who came to set it up made a mistake. He connected the hot and cold water wrong. As a result I lost my expensive winter clothes to extremely hot water thinking it was cold. When this happened twice, I asked my husband to check the machine. He found the two connections mixed up. He changed them himself but when I complained to the store about the loss of my expensice clothes, they did nothing. Now I have another problem. I am sick from my LG Washer. The odious stink that comes out from the washer is spreading through the house. I feel nauseated each time I go near the machine. I have tried to run empty cycles using bleach and it lessened the problem for a while but it is back again. What can I do?

Douglas of Grand Blanc, MI August 29, 2009

11/10/2005 Purchase a new LG washing machine. Within 6 months clothes, sheets, towels smell moldy. Called LG about this issue and they indicated that we needed to clean the Dispenser and run an empty cycle with bleach which we did. Clothes still smelled moldy and today I know why. I opened the Dispenser and a large clump (1 inch long by 1/8th of an inch wide by 1/8 of an inch thick)of black mold fell into the prewash compartment. I investigated where this clump of black mold came from by removing the dispenser and I found above the prewash compartment a 2 inch by 4 inch patch of mold that in some areas is 1/4 inch thick. Also at the back of the opening for the prewash compartment was another 2 inch by 4 inch patch of mold that in the center of this patch was a 1/4 inch thick of mold. I called LG (Ginell, employee # 7419) again and described this condition and I was instructed to simply clean the mold out. This is an obvious defect with this machine.

We bought a Front Loading Washing Machine Three years ago and for the last 6 months we have been noticing a horrible smell with the Clothes. Our clothes are smelling like Mold. We check the filters and water hose and do not see anything. Please help us find out what is causing this awful smell.

Mona of Denver, CO August 27, 2009

purchased an LG washer & dryer in 3/2009 now all my clothes and towels smell like rotten cheese. I am severely allergic to mold and am getting sick. Dont know if I could return them to Home depot for top loaders. These washers should be racalled.

Nelda of Houston, TX August 25, 2009

LG WASHER, Front end , load, purchasd 9-12-2003-2nd year noticed rust around despenser- I was told LG would not do anything. The whole top has now rusted from the back. Today I was told this was caused by CLOROX. Now I have read my manual from front to cover, why Isn't this mentioned. IN FACT it speaks of using bleach. SHOULDN'T the customer be told not to use clorox as the fumes could cause this problem.

I am in the process of ordering a new top. I am very dissapointed in LG products, I used kenmore in the past never had this problem, of course I never had a front in loader.
