Robin of West Melbourne, FL April 16, 2006

Bought the Maytag Gemini Gas range on 11-23-2004 and used it until 8-05 when the upper igniter, in the upper oven, burned itself up, smoked up my house and threw the breaker. New igniter replaced and the service rep suggested the Extended Service Warranty because they have 'had problems'. Did that.

On 11-18-2005, the upper oven burned up, threw the breaker and smoked up the house again. Called repair and they replaced the Electronic control board and igniter AGAIN.

4-10-2006, the lower oven did the same thing. This time there is a silver, sparkling residue on the oven and the oven was on CLEAN when this happened. Oven did NOT clean even though it went through the lock, etc. Called Maytag, asked for a replacement but got a service call.  They replaced the electronic control board.

4-12-2006, I am cooking on the stove top and the oven turns itself on (digital) and goes up to 450 then down to 150 and back. Called Maytag furious and the surly woman told me that the would not replace my oven until it had a service call 4 times on the SAME component and that she would not consider this time because they had just been out 2 days ago. I told her that it was a different oven and different problem.

Now service can't come out until 4-17.  We are scared of this oven and want a new oven, another brand.

The oven vents along the top of the stove ave discolored when it was self cleaning . It was not terribly dirty and was set to clean 3 hours which it did but all the vents have turned a rusty yellow. I have tried several cleaners on it but have found nothing that works. I have always thought of maytag being great appliances but now I am wondering if this is happening . It is a glass top, top of the line appliance.

I bought a Maytag range in November 2004 I had trouble with the oven not heating properly. I called the repair service he came out and did a reading of the oven and told myself and my husband there was nothing wrong. The oven still does not work right so I called again for another service call he came out and did the same thing he did before still not working. I called the store and I told them I was not happy with the stove and that I wanted them to replace it. They told me that the service men were very capable of fixing the problems so they came back again.

Now the warranty is off and my stove does not heat properly and I am not able to use my oven. I called again now they tell me that I have to pay for a service call. I am not willing to pay anything to have this problem solved they were out here 3 to 4 times and did nothing to fix my stove. I don't feel that it is my responsibility .They should have fixed it. I called the store and wanted to talk to a manager but did not get a reply he told the saleslady to tell me that he could not do anything. I am so upset that Sears will not stand behind there products they sell.I have bought all my appliances that I have right now from Sears I am a good customer just wanting my stove repaired.

Maytag gas range Gemini ModelMGR6772BDQ purchased Sept.2003 from a Sears store has been used daily with no mishap until Nov. 30, 2005 when the upper oven door literally exploded without any impact or any type of misuse. The door fronts we learned are made of a heavy safety glass and can suddenly break and disentegrate into small crystals with no obvious reason. This happened about ten minutes after a normal oven use during the cool down.

Glass was thrown up to ten feet away and covered a large area of the kitchen floor. I was just about to go to the oven and open the door when the "explosion" occurred and there were no injuries. Maytag is going to replace the door front and refused my request for a complete exchange of the entire door. My first request was for a new range but did not really expect that could happen.

My wife and I are now reluctant to use the range ovens and knowing that the bottom oven also has the glass exterior makes us cautious about looking into the oven through the glass door window. We were never informed that the doors were made of a heavy safety glass and to all appearances we assumed that they were made from porcelain enameled steel as every other kitchen appliance we have ever owned. The owner's manual has no information or warnings on this.
