Alison of Litchfield Park, AZ November 19, 2008

We bought a Maytag Side by Side Refrigerator (Model MSD2756GEB) in March 2001. On November 6, 2008 at 430am the wires that cover the compressor caught on fire, causing the connectors to melt onto the compressor. Luckily, the breaker flipped, and there was no other damage other than to the refrigerator. An independent repairman came out and said he had never seen anything that bad before, and would have to replace the wires and compressor (700+), and then wouldn't know if the computer system was working until the unit was plugged in.

Finally getting through to Maytag Safety after being disconnected several times, they said they had to send their own repairman out. Their repairman came out the next day, and said the compressor and wires would need to be replaced, but didn't blame us if we wanted a new refrigerator due to no promise that this would not happen again. We ended up buying a new refrigerator due to the fact that we have 2 small children, and we had family visiting from out of state for one of our daughters birthdays. When we contacted Maytag for at least partial reimbursement, they said they would not reimburse us anything because they offered to repair the burned up refrigerator. Would not even reimburse us for the lost food.

We lost probably over 300.00 worth of food, and had to buy a new refrigerator.

I bought a Maytag double door freezer on bottom refrigerator MFD2560HEB in May 06. Eight months later the motor that runs the top half of the unit quit and was replaced. Two months after that the new unit started clanking. It makes such a loud noise that it scares my company. Now, one year later, it has quit again. This time I am told it is the compressor and the fan that cools the compressor.

I have lost numerous frozen and fresh food items both times. I am nervous that a fire is going to start - the middle section of the refrigerator gets hot to the touch. I am waiting for the repairman to check it out. After reading the complaints I am frustrated as the others. I am still paying for this refrig and will probably have to get another one - after only 2.5 years. Ridiculous and unacceptable.

What a Lemon. Purchased it and 4 months the compressor went out. Then 3 months after getting that if fixed it quite working again. Maytag consumer service rep are rude and do not intend on ever replacing the product or giving you money back. What a waste of 650 plus all the food that was spoiled over 1500 worth. I am going to write and tell everyone I know what a terrible company they are to deal with.

Refrigerator caught fire; smelled burning insulation & plastic. Thick yellow/brown smoke billowing from refrigerator. After getting it outside and cooled down, saw that controls in back top of refrigerator unit (not freezer-top freezer model) had totally melted. This was the start/cause of the fire.

Lost around 500 worth of food and refrigerator (original cost around 450). Whole house smelled of burned electric parts. Unit was only around 3 years old. Maytag offered to reimburse us for the food ONLY IF WE APPLIED THE MONEY TOWARDS ANOTHER MAYTAG REFRIGERATOR. We don't WANT another Maytag!!!!

We purchased a Maytag French Door bottom freezer Stainless Steel model MFD2561KES unit with the extended warranty. Shortly after delivery we started hearing a noise probably from the compressor that now lasts about 3 seconds each time the compressor starts. Recently we called the extended warranty number and they told us that it would need to fail before they would do anything. Today I read about all the Maytag problems and have decided that if it stops working it will not even consider fixing it. No more Maytags for us.

Concern about long term durability.
