Maytag Refrigerators |

Viktoria of Gaithersburg, MD September 8, 2009 I purchased a Maytag double door refrigerator; of course, after buying into the advertisement that I wouldn't experience any problems with the functionality of the product. Wrong! The refrigerator has never worked properly for more than 2 months. I have also purchased the extended warranty contract and had at least 3 diferrent technicians come out to service it. All to no avail. I can't afford to replace the refrigerator right now and have lost loads of food in it by trying to make the refrigerator work. I've used the hair dryer like someone else suggested. That does not work either. And lastly, of course, Maytag says that my refrigerator is not included in the recall. Maytag should be held accountable! Lost countless amounts of food and my child became sick while eating food that was no longer good due to the improperly working refrigerator. James of Tacoma, WA September 8, 2009 I bought three appliances from Home Depot about three years ago in the first 6 months the heating element on the stove went out,3 month's later the dish washer circuit board went dead they were both replace because of warranty however my refrigerator is now freezing up and no cooling in the fresh food department, what's sad about this is when we bought these items we were going off the maytag name now I know it's garbage. Karen of Schaghticoke, NY August 30, 2009 From reading the consumer complaints I can see I am one of SEVERAL people that have Maytag refrigerators that have very serious problems in cooling and the freezer icing up. When the service man came to replace the recalled part and I asked him about the freezer icing up and refig. not cooling, I was told it was a design flaw in the drain system and there was nothing that could be done about it. So this tells me that Maytag has been aware of the problem and apparently has done nothing to correct the problem in ANY of the refrigerators they sell. CONSUMERS ARE BEING TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF AND MAYTAG SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE As I am typing this the temp. in my refrigerator is over 50 degrees. Deborah of E. Stroudsburg, PA August 26, 2009 We own a Maytag side by side refrigerator, model #msd2356aew. In both 'recalls' we have been told that ours is not included, therefore we are not entitled to recieve any repair. We purchased this refrigerator in 1999. We also had a protection plan in place until 2006, this was purchased when we purchased the refrigerator. Within the first 2 months I had a problem with the ice-maker, I called the store and was informed that I would need a 'retro-kit'. The refrigerator was not keeping the food cold, in fact, it was warm. The service dept. had us wait for 4 days to install the new retro-kit. All food was spoiled, this, after only the 2 month point, but, this was only to be the beginning. Approximately 6 months later, the 'retro-kit' needed to be replaced, again the refrigerator was not working, warm interior, sides of the doors were hot to the touch. The service man told me of a little 'trick', to make the refrigerator become cool, if I should ever have this problem again. The 'trick' he told me, is to use a hair dryer in the bottom area of the freezer, to loosen-up any ice, and this will create melting(defrosting?). So, it appears that the service man knew full well at that time there was most definitely a problem. We keep towels on the bottom shelf of the freezer to prevent water from running and seeping onto our floor. It is not possible to utilize this bottom area for storing food. We no longer use the ice-maker for fear that it will only create more of a problem. At this point we know that it functions poorly, we check every day to see if ice has accumulated on the bottom of the freezer, then we must scrape out the ice and soak up any water and leave towels on the bottom. When I would call Maytag, in regard to these problems, I was told there was nothing they could do. My service protection plan didn't cover this type of problem, customer service advised me to call Maytag. I realize that it has been 10 years, however, the problem is the same as it was when this appliance was new, and we are unfortunately unable to afford a replacement. Corliss of Atlanta, GA August 26, 2009 We have a Maytag Plus (bottom door) refrigerator. The unit is a little less that 5 years old. The frrezer and the refrigerator have both stopped cooling - just the lighting is on. Of course, like everyone else expressing concerns on this site, we checked to see if our unit was under warranty. It is not. I have conducted an online search for problems with the same model number as the one we have. Many, many, many, many, many complaints came up. Clearly this is not an isolated issue. Are there any consumer class action suits against Maytag regarding the seemingly same, exact problem we all have had with our units? Please assist. Linda of New Lenox, IL August 24, 2009 We recently bought all stainless steel appliances. The biggest complaint and after (3) technitians later is our Maytag (3) door, bottom freezer refrigerator Model #MFI2569VEM is that the ice maker spits out broken cubes, chips my glasses and I have to wipe up the floor everytime. The water dispenser is not cold like Hinkley Smit water. I was told its only tap water. How do we as a comsumer know any of this in the store? Also, don't buy 30" Gas Range Model #MGR6751BDS you can't fit two pots much less place four all at once on top. The back is poorly made which takes up the room for the pots. So, when buying appliances bring in your pots & pans, 9x13, etc. to see if they fit. And don't let the salesman tell you stainless is nice. It's not it shows all marks and it is diffinitly hard to clean. Ron of Zeeland, MI August 22, 2009 We purchased a Maytag bottom freezer refrigerator in Oct. 2006, and we are now on our third part that regulates the defroster. The refrigerator stops being cold. Both repairman (replacing w/2nd and 3rd parts) say they have replaced MANY of these parts. By reading the other complaints, it is a very common problem. Maytag should be held accountable!! We will never, ever again buy or recommend Maytag! So much for their ad campaign...Maytags now always need repairs! ANTHONY of rancho santa matgaritaLAGUNA HIL, CA August 20, 2009 My i tear old Maytag fridge conked out and I called Maytag. They told me that my model was under recall for defective parts and that they would send someone out to fix it. when the technician arrived he told me that he was only there to fix the recall problem and that the fridge not working was due to a bad defrost assembly. I called Maytag and cycle was not included. I ranted and raved how ridiculous this was but to no avail. I land upo paying 300 for repair and about 200 in loss of food. Regina of Florence, KY August 18, 2009 My barely 1 year old Maytag bottom freezer refrigerator has stopped cooling in the refrigerator section. This has now happened 2 times. The first time was only for a day and the following evening, it began cooling again on its own. We attributed it to having lots of company on a hot day and figured the door had just been opened lots of times. This last time it has lost coolness over the last 3 days, ice has formed both on the front of the door of the freezer as well as on the back wall of the freezer. Gina of st paul, NB August 17, 2009 Purchased bottom freezer refrigerator MBB2256GES in November 2004. Paid 1800 with tax. Unit has failed 3 times, all out of very limited, poor warranty period. Purchased from Future Shop, they would not provide me with any assistance. Each time, the unit has the same failure, reducer relay in the compressor. Each time, lost all food in freezer and most in fridge. Each time, out of pocket expenses of nearly 200. Contacted Maytag for warranty information and all they wanted to do was collect personal information for marketing purposes I'm assuming.. Shortly after my first contact to Maytag, I began receiving telemarketing calls by the dozens per week, when I hadn't received a single call for years. Seems too little of a coincidence to me. Now I am left with a defective, 1800 unit that isn't even 5 years old. Forced into buying another refrigerator. I'm quite upset at the service I received and the poor warranty on this product!
