Paula of Buckeye AZ (11/10/06)
We purchased a Maytag refrigerator from Lowe's on August 18, 2006. Maytag Stainless - French Door with the freezer in the bottom. We had a service person out twice to this date of November 10, 2006. Last night when we opened the freezer for ice cream, it was more like a milk shake. I couldn't call for service since the Magtag service center was closed until this morning. When I finally did get a real person on the phone, they didn't have a service person available until tomorrow between 6am and 7 pm. The light is on in the refrigerator and freezer BUT the control panel on the outside of the refrigerator has no lights and does not function. My food is rotting and defrosting as I write this.

Maytag doesn't give a care about the consumer. Buy the product and deal with their problems. They will not replace this piece of garbage. I asked the service rep for a phone number for their corporate office and she replied with an address. I asked how a person would get in touch with someone by telephone and she replied with you can't. I guess Maytag/Whirlpool Corporate must work out of their garage? If we ran our business in this fashion we would be out of business. I will find a number for the corporate office and I will get results. This Maytag is less than 3 months old and I need to wait a least 24 hours before some Maytag repair person will be at my door. This is insane. I am a 58 year old woman and I have purchased major appliances since I was 20 years old. I have never encountered such an inferior product. In all these years I have never had a single service call on any of the applicances (none of which were Maytag).

The mental anquish I sustained during my request for service goes far beyond the spoiled food. It's a lose-lose situation.

I purchased a Maytag refrigerator from Sears in June of 2006 and by October 2006, the compressor quit working. I was out a refrigerator for two weeks while waiting for the repairman and part. After the repairman spent 2 and a half hours putting in the new compressor, it appeared to be working again for one whole day before breaking down again. I phoned Connie (the manager) at Sears and told her I cannot afford to keep throwing away all of my food and taking time off of work to wait for a repairman and that I would like a replacement. Lo and behold, the response is dodgey and political and in a round-about way a NO. I now need to repeat this nightmare again of missed work, lost food and headache. I will absolutely NEVER purchase another item from Sears again!

I have two receipts for recently purchased fresh and frozen food. One is from Costco for over 200.00 and the other from Albertsons for over 100.00. This food was spoiled and had to be tossed out. I missed two half days of work at 40.00 per hour (massage therapist at an athletic club) and have another two half days lost pending the next repair. I estimate my lost wages totalling around 650.00. The total loss is around 1,250.00.

I purchased a Maytag Refrigerator in 2000. We have had about 15 service calls on the I/M. My father-in-law purchased a Maytag Refrigerator about 6 months to a year after we did and is having the same problems. I have spoken with the service company and they say that Maytag has had many problems with the icemakers in the refrigerators from that year. I will never buy another Maytag Refrigerator.

The last service call around August 2006 and the guy I spoke to at Maytag said that my appliance had been serviced for the same problem more than 4 times within 1 year and that someone from their LEMON department would be contacting me. No one did. Why am I not surprised. My extended warranty expires in January 2007. The guy from Maytag also told me he could give me my service history on my appliance. Like they had something to hide.

We purchased a Maytag side-by-side stainless steel ice-in-door refrigerator freezer in 2001. It has been nothing but problems.

The ice maker has been replaced three times.  The ice-to-door has never worked properly - it makes crushed instead of cubed.  The refrigerator side stopped working and the produce drawers constantly have to be replaced because the entire front comes off in your hands and breaks.

We have probably spent over 800 in repairs.

I just returned from my wife's work where we made an emergency freezer transfer of all her breast milk for my 6 month old daughter. Not all would fit so we may lose some. Like most others - purchased 1 year and 2 months ago. Having faith in a 2000 product I did not purchase the extended warranty.
