Todd of Chatsworth, ON August 17, 2009

I purchased a Maytag bottom freezer refrigerator (model # PBB1951HEW) less than 4 years ago. The compressor, under warranty for 5 years, gave out a few weeks ago. During the service call, the technician accidentally broke off a copper tube, and my refrigerator was deemed “not repairable”. Maytag immediately tried to distance themselves from the service technician, claiming he was not certified: He has, in fact, been working with them for over 20 years.

Maytag then offered me a pro-rate exchange; they would replace my refrigerator with a new model for 516.84. I negotiated the cost down to 316.84 and asked that they throw in a 5-year extended warranty as a sign of good faith. Janet at the Customer Experience Centre flatly refused. Maytag’s limited warranty lasts only a year and is not even listed on the Maytag website; customers are asked to call the Customer Interaction Centre for details.

I purchased a Maytag Refigerator (model # MFI2568AES, serial # 10566513JP) On 11/2006. In less than three years the unit has failed 6 times. Each time the warranty company has responded to the claim, however they have not been able to effectively repair the unit. On one occasion the warranty company stated that if the unit failed 3 times, the unit would be replaced. As of the last complaint on 07/12/2009, the same warranty company stated that the only way a unit can be replaced is if the unit fails 4 times, and those 4 times must be within the ‘contract’ period. We have renewed the contract four times, but the repairs have spanned over three contract periods. Therefore each time the contract is renewed, it resets the count to zero as if no problems have occurred. This is clearly designed so the warranty company has the advantage of motivating the customer to renew the contract without them having to take any real action on a unit that is obviously a lemon.

I came and the fridge was going bonkers, lights flashing and ice flapper in door would not stop. I called Maytag and guess what my warranty expired 2 weeks ago.So sorry. After checking on line and seeing all the problems, I called back and they said they would overnight fedex the part. That was 6 days days ago, still not part and several hundred dollars of food in the garbage. I was never offered an extended warranty for this 2500 fridge and now I know why. What a shame.

I bought a Maytag bottom freezer refrigerator model MBF1956KEB and the refrigetor section stopped cooling after 3 days of being delivered. The freezer's back panel forms a block of ice. I tried defrosting it manually but it does not work. I called the store where I bought it and they are trying to get it fixed asap but are still waiting for the part to arrive. It has been a week.

Cheryl of San Jose, CA August 8, 2009

I bought mt refridgerator Dec.2004. Aug.2007 I had to put a new compressor in. Aug.2009 another new compressor. I have called and asked at the very least for a 4 year warranty. The response was thet would give me a 10% discount on a new refridgerator. I feel this refridgerator is a lemon. I paid 1900 not even 5 years ago.I have had to pay for the repairmans service calls plus the cost of the food I have lost and been without a refridgerator for weeks at a time.

I am not sure what to do from here.My fear is in another 2 years it will go out again and the cost is 700-900 for repair. At this point Maytag has covered the cost of repair but only until the 5 year mark. What do I do??

Robert of Green Valley, AZ August 5, 2009

Dear Sir: Less than three years ago we furnished our new home with what we thought were good quality Maytag appliances, refrigerator, washer and dryer. Currently our S/S frig/freezer, Model #mzd2663keq, “sticks in defrost mode”. I have a temp probe in freezer, when it “sticks & heats” you can watch the temp go from -2 to 40 F, if the plug is not pulled. The defrost board was diagnosed by a repairman. Four boards later, it still “sticks & heats”. Using any of theses boards, at different times-no pattern, produces a fully functional frig, for a while.

Then something else happens and causes it to “sticks& heats”. This has been going on for months, it works then it does not!!! WE no longer keep anything too valuable in the freezer section. We rely on the old freezer in the garage.

I purchased a 1700 maytag wide by side fridge and have had nothing but problems with it. The ice maker constantly jams, the ice maker has been replaced, the water holding tank has been converted to a tube system, the drawers dont keep the correct temp and after the 2009 safety relay recall the fridge stopped working. As it is no longer under warrantee I was forced to pay a 276 bill to haver it fixed.

the A&E service rep told me the part cost 88 but eh labor was almost 200. I took him literally 10m minutes to replace this part. When I asked how much they charged per hour he told me they dont charge by the hour but by the job code. Sounds like bologna to me.

I am extremely disappointed and have had no problem with my 20 yr old whirlpool fridge in the basement. I also have a stove and washer and drying sytem and have had problems with these items as well.

Kari of Cedar Rapids, IA July 31, 2009

Maytag refridgerators had a relay recall. My refridgerator fell under the recall but had actually failed before the recall (part melted and smoked). When SEARS came out to fix the refridge, the individual service call was going to cost more than purchasing a service agreement so we paid for our repair by buying the service agreement (50 dollars cheaper).

Maytag will not reimburse for the service agreement ... even though we would never have called SEARS or purchased a service agreement if our refridge hadn't failed due to their faulty relay.

Bernie of Hemet, CA July 29, 2009

Refrig. not cold and frezer icing over. This has happen a few times now. Lucky we still have ins. on it. We bought this from Sear in 8/2002. It use to be a year between repairs, now it happens every 6 months that something goes wrong. I go into internet about Maytag today and found out it is still happing today with the new Maytags.

How come you people haven't stepped up and notified the public of this? on TV where that would get to all the people and stop the public from buying this piece of junk Product. Loss of food and time.

S.Friedlander of Berryville, VA July 27, 2009

I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN MY MAYTAG FRENCH DOOR REFRIGERATOR which I purchased in April 2006! I thought I was purchasing a very good product. WRONG. I spent over 2000 for an inferior product. First computer board went out in first year and half. Warranty barely covered it with alot of run around. It took me hours on the phone complaining. Finally Maytag agreed to pay. This year Jul 2009 icemaker goes out. Called Maytag and no recall from what service rep said. I can't believe that something that expensive has problems so early in it's life. My grandparents believed in Maytag UNFORTUNATELY THINGS HAVE CHANGED so DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT...
