Lawsuit Charges Mr. Coffee Knew of Problems
Mr. Coffee Named in Scalding Lawsuit

It seems like a coffee pot should be a fairly simple device but Mr. Coffee has succeeded in making its machines so complicated that they cause all kinds of problems. The one we hear about most often is that the hot water either leaks out or the coffee backs up and floods the kitchen -- a real annoyance.

There are plenty of other caffeinated catastrophes just waiting to happen. The thermos on some Mr. Coffee models has a nasty habit of exploding, some models manage to impart a taste of burning plastic to the coffee and others just plain quit working.

Here are a few of the more recent complaints:

Coffee maker FTX24... This model of coffee maker has an extremely loud alert which sounds 5 times when the coffee is finished. There isn't any shut-off for this alarm and it wakes up my children. A very poor design - to say the least. Mr Coffee customer service refused to replace the model or even give a discount on another model. Very poor customer service on a faulty design, even though the supervisor was very aware of the problem via numerous complaints.

Sunbeam Mr. Coffee 12-Cup Programmable Coffee Maker UPC#: 7217922723 Right after my Black and Decker coffee maker failed after two weeks, I decided to go back to reliable old Mr. Coffee. In 30 years I have never seen one fail. We've had a single coffee maker for 10 years and only threw it out because of it being old. My whole family has been using Mr. Coffee coffee makers and no one I know has ever had a problem. My 60 dollar Mr. Coffee failed after about 10 months. I have had a problem with a lot of products, I think, because corporations, not content with manufacturing overseas for the cheapest labor, thus avoiding paying a living wage and benefits to Americans, and making huge profits, also use the cheapest parts. Goodbye Mr. Coffee, hello old perculator.

The product was incorrectly designed. The unit keeps flowing over from the basket, getting coffee grinds all over the kitchen, in the drawers, ruining everything. This is the second changeout I have had from the company. The same problem exists.

Everything in my two kitchen drawers has been ruined, including an address book with all our freinds and family information, pictures that were not replaceable, stained grout, etc.

We have had a Mr Coffee FTX25 coffee maker for at least six months and maybe even as long as a year. It has leaked almost every time it has brewed a pot. The carafe is never full when the brew is completed. The coffee is (99.5% of the time) flooded all over the counter, ruining our kitchen tile grout with discoloration, which is getting harder and harder to clean.

Resultant Damage: Ruining our counter, ruining our DAY because there is not enough coffee for two people remaining in the pot, causing arguments, anger from lack of remedy by Mr Coffee people (can't find anything on line). I think my husband is ready to divorce me over a coffee maker!!

I bought a new Mr. Coffee 4-cup coffeepot several weeks ago. Last week I discovered the side of the coffeepot had blown out - a hole about 1 1/2 in diameter. I bought a replacement coffeepot this past week and today it did the same thing - same place, same size hole. In both cases, I had made a 2 cup pot of coffee and turned the coffee maker off when I emptied the pot and the carafe was completely cool. It appears there is a defect in the glass carafe.

A replacement pot costs 9.00 at Walmart, whereas a new coffeemaker is 15.00. I can't afford to risk buying either product again.
