There are plenty of other caffeinated catastrophes just waiting to happen. The thermos on some Mr. Coffee models has a nasty habit of exploding, some models manage to impart a taste of burning plastic to the coffee and others just plain quit working. Here are a few of the more recent complaints: Richard of San Jose, CA June 10, 2009 Within days of buying a Mr. Coffee 12 Cup Model FTX 45-1, it became quite confused and began shutting off at will and then, to get it back on, you must unplug and then plug in again and sometimes it automatically goes back on with lights on, or you might have to turn it on again and then the brew selection changes from strong to weak. The service rep said that she had never heard of any complaints at all! Right! She then said that they would replace the unit via Warranty and, when she said it would take 10 days to 3 weeks to show up, I asked that it be stopped so that I could take it back to Wal-Mart for immediate replacement. She said that they preferred we not take it back to WM and, when I again asked her to stop the shipment, she said she couldn't as the order had already gone in. So, we try and get a pot brewed each day and then keep reheating in the microwave, or we build a campfire out back and boil our coffee in a pot and drink a few grounds in the process. What a very bad product! Word to the wise, before buying the Mr. Coffee, we purchased a GE 12 cup and, when we unpacked it, the base was broken and separated. We took it back to Wal-Mart for a replacement and, when we unpacked it, the plastic carafe top was broken and we then took back the second unit and switched to Mr. Coffee. lloyd of lake city, MN June 5, 2009 the first pot we bought lasted five months the second one lasted two weeks hershel of Washington , DC May 7, 2009 I feel lucky after reading the other complaints. The 12 cup coffee maker I bought two weeks ago, TF Series, just stopped brewing. Basil of Clarkston, MI April 26, 2009 My Mr Coffee maker failed in less than 6 months and it's made in China. It shorted out from a very small amount of coffee getting past the base plate from the defective sneak a pot valve below the basket. I E-mailed Mr Coffee about the failure, but they didn't reply, (there support is probably in India and is deluged with complaints). Mr Coffee makers of twenty years ago, would last five years or more; an expected time of usage for a moderatly priced appliance, however, that is no longer the case. I am willing to spend about 100 dollars for a made in America base model Bunn. A unit that will last longer than 6 months, and from a company that will stand behind there product. PC of Houston, TX April 24, 2009 Mr. Coffee® 12-Cup Switch Coffeemaker - White Model: COF DR12. This coffee pot is your basic one. The only bad things is that the carafe spills the content from the pour spout due to the shape of the spout it leaks down the side of the carafe when you pour, making a cup of coffee in your cup and on the counter top as well. Lynda of Rochester, NY April 5, 2009 Lynda of Rochester NY (04/05/09) Jimmy of Greenback, TN March 28, 2009 Jimmy of Greenback TN (03/28/09) Karen of Taylor, MI March 20, 2009 Report Your Experience
