Protect America

Charles of Williamstown, NJ July 23, 2008

Charles of Williamstown NJ (07/23/08)
I entered into a three (3) year agreement with Protect America. After using the system, I was not satisfied and intended to end the contract once the three years lapsed. The contract states that you have to inform them 60 days prior to the end date to cancel. Unfortunately I informed them 30 days prior to the end date and was told that I had to have it in writing, so I sent a fax.

Once they received the fax they informed me that I need to inform them 60 days prior to the end date, Therefore they are trying to hold me in this contract for another year (360). I understand that the contract states 60 days and I informed them 30 days, but what is the difference between 30 days and 60 days? I feel like the three year contract was extensive enough for an inferior product and now they are trying to destroy my perfect credit with a bogus claim.

I refuse to pay them a dime more. I will inform the credit reporting agencies of this to try to protect my credit. I paid the company for three years consistently and now they want to try to destroy my credit because I didn't inform them 60 days prior to my end date. Any reputable company would be confident enough to contact you 60 days prior instead of trying to pull the wool over your eyes and hope you don't notice.

My mother ordered Protect America security system for our home, and this system has not worked properly since we recieved the pakage in the mail. I put up all the sensors, put they are not working properly. Everytime I call I have to spend several hours trying to get the system to work. I want to cancel this service all together. I have had a bad feeling from the beginning about this bogus internet security system. They keep saying you need 7 days to cancel, well it has not worked 1 day since we recieved it. Why are they counting 7 days from the time it arrived in the fed ex box.

This system has not worked one day set up. Now I am waiting upon extra sensors to be recieved, yet again so that the sensors will work on the most important thing, my doors in the house. Why should I pay for a alarm system that is not protecting me, and I am still within the installation process?

There are stickers attached to my doors, and walls. Also, this system is just not working properly. What more can I say, this is so frustrating.

Janice of Rensselaer, NY July 16, 2008

I am unsure how many years ago that my husband and I ordered the Protect America home security system. When it arrived it was basically cheap and cheesy plastic pieces in a box that we ourselves had to install. They never offered to send a technician and we were told when we requested one that it was impossible.

The system didn't work correctly from the get go. I informed the company of this and expressed to them that we no longer used the system and that we would appreciate them stop taking money out of our bank account. That was the first time that I was made aware that we were tied into a three year contract.

I have moved from the residence where it was initially installed and they recently called me. They stated that they were calling from an attorney's office and that I owe them 947.00 or so. Meanwhile I could hear other telemarketers in the background. Mr. A offered to settle the account with me for 688.00 and that they were getting ready to file a lawsuit against me. I explained to them that my situation and that I hadn't received any collection letters from them. Mr. A asked me all of my personal information including where I work, etc. He claimed that he would use the information that he collected from me to file for a hardship case for me. I thanked him profusely. He then put another gentleman on the phone supposedly to verify the information that I had given him.

When the man got on the phone he asked if Mr. A had offered to reinstate my Protect America plan. I told him that I am not interested in doing that and that I no longer have the equipment to use and that it didn't work to begin with. He then asked me if I was willing to give him the 688.00 for the settlement offer. I told him that I don't have that kind of money and that Mr. A stated that he was filing for a hardship case.

He then began telling me that he would give me 4 payments of 229.00 per month. I again expressed to him that I can not afford that. He then began asking me how much I make per month and what my monthly bills entailed. He insisted that I should be able to afford it. I told him again that I can't afford it. He said, Well, get a lawyer. I told him that maybe I will. He then said that it would cost me more by taking that route. I told him that I didn't care. We shared some choice words and he then stated that he had no problem hanging up on me at any time. I told him to do it and asked to speak with his manager.

He said,What you want to speak with my boss? I said yes. He said, You don't want to speak to my boss. I told him again that I did. He hung up on me at some point. I called the number back and asked to speak with Mr. A. I told him that he had offered me to file a hardship case and then had proceeded to put me on the phone with some punk who tried strong arming me into paying them. I told him that I would be contacting my lawyer in the morning as well as the Better Business Bureau. He said, Well, that is still not going to solve your problem.

I also told him that I don't believe that they are an attorney's firm at all that they are telemarketers from Protect America. He asked why I thought that. I told him because a law firm would not try to get me to reinstate my Protect America account. I also told him that they are not to call my house any more. He told me not to call them back with this garbage again and hung up on me.

After dealing with this dishonest company for over 6 months, I got them to release me from my contract by filing a claim with the Better Business Bureau! Everyone should do this immediately. Be sure to put all of the details of your experience, including the rude collectors that call your house. Best of luck to All!

I have been stuck paying two extra years even though I notified Protect America that I had a new security provider. I was told to write a letter and fax it in 6 mos. Yes, like a person would actually remember that. Then they automatically put you in another contract at the end of your four years with a three day window to cancel. Then there is a 60 day written notice you have to give before the next annual contract in order to cancel. Then to top it off, I was called and told that they were going to file a civil suit for a breach of contract. I have to pay 800 to get out business with them. I would not advise anyone to use their services after all this headache.

I have to pay 800 to get out business with them.
