when i was bakeing in my pyrex dish 9x13 it exploded inside my oven. sounded like a gun or bomb going off in my oven. I will never use a pyrex again and i have tld all friends what has happened and they have all got rid of there pyrex dishes. and i have done the same. my 15 year old had just checked on this and it was fine.

i lost about 20 worth of food and my animals had glass in there feet and i cut my hand trying to clean up the millions of peices of glass out of my oven my floor and my bottom draw of oven.

I was making dinner for my girlfriend and some friends who were over for dinner. My g/f set the pyrex measuring cup on the stove (which was still warm, but had been turned off for about 5-10 minutes). It had butter and cream in it. Soon thereafter the Pyrex exploded in a shower of glass shards. It was very exciting.

Broken dish, ruined meal. Our backs had been turned when it happened, so apart from a huge mess, nothing else happened. however, Pyrex is not supposed to explode. Crack, but explode, that is not right.

A large Pyrex pie plate exploded in my hands when I took it from the oven to the counter in my kitchen. A large shard of glass cut my hand leaving a 2 inch scar. The cut caused my hand to bleed profusely. The dish basically came apart in my hands and glass shards littered the kitchen.

Very frightening experience. I was only relieved by the thought that there were no children in the immediate area. We were picking up glass pieces for days.

Julia of Towson MD (09/25/08)
Approximately a year ago, I purchased a Pyrex brand pie plate. We used it to cook two frozen fish fillets in the microwave. We have done the same with an older Pyrex brand pie plate (purchased approximately 15 years ago), and never encountered any problems. But the new plate exploded after 4 or 5 minutes in the microwave.

The new plate was obviously destroyed, the food was ruined, and it took considerable time to clean up the dozens of pieces of glass.

Kevin of Victoria, OTHER September 24, 2008

I had cooked a batch of lemon-curd in the kitchen, but decided that it had been microwaved for too long. A small ramekin was dropped onto the edge of the 4-cup Pyrex glass container, and chipped the lip off. So I rinced it out with hot water, and proceeded to show my boss and co-workers. I held the container up (inches away from my face--wasn't expecting an audible explosion), and then the Pyrex container exploded.

Glass shrapnel literally flew across my work's kitchen, after it had produced a loud, audible hum. Luckily, I wasn't injured, merely startled, and unhappy that I had to help clean out the whole kitchen during work-hours. I've been using Pyrex containers for years, and would never have expected a relatively new container to explode on me.

There was IMMENSE potential for self-injury, and the injury of my nearby coworkers. If I didn't have the glass pointing in the direction it was, it could've been dire.
