Christopher of Herndon, VA September 23, 2008

My stepdad's daughter was cleaning a Pyrex dish in the sink when it exploded. I don't know the exact preconditions of the accident. But the narrative is haunting, I treat my Pyrex like a loaded gun now.

Her job was also a translator for the deaf. She will never perform Sign Language again. I am not making any of this up, this has to be one the most bizarre and tragic things that could ever happen. I will contact them for more details if it will help more people.

A large shard severed her Hand at the wrist. It cut her hand completely off. Her husband's quick action saved her life. I heard they were going to reattach the hand, but whether she'll be able to use it again is unknown.

Was using pyrex to cook chicken on a Weber Gas Grill which is billed as an oven, not an typical grill with charcoal. Of the two dishes on the grill one exploded leaving the other intact. The dish did not explode into millions of little pieces but rather, broke apart in big chunks. This happened approximately seven years ago. I considered it just a fluke at the time and was unaware of the history involved with this glassware.

As the lid to the grill was closed it prevented all glass from flying out in all directions so damage was limited.

About three years ago, I was baking Lasagna in a long pyrex dish. As I was taking it from the oven, the dish exploded, and large shards went everywhere. It was a pyrex dish that Was bought several years before, but after 2000. I thought it was a fluke, and although I received a minor cut and burn from the hot food, I thought no more about it until I saw an article about other people having problems and being injured. I have another newer pyrex dish somewhere in the house, but I went back to using metal pans in the oven(with exception of a square pyrex dish made before the late ninties). These pyrex dishes should be recalled.

I have had 5-6 Pyrex dishes explode after they have left the oven. I have used the clear glass as well as the blue glass dishes. After cooking the meal, the dish was placed on a cooling rack, and approximately ten minutes later, I heard a loud poof from the kitchen. the glass dish shattered all over the kitchen ruining dinner and leaving a mess.

Resulting cuts on everyones feet for atleast a week due to the very tiny shards of glass that were left after the floor had been mopped and vacuumed.

Petri of San Francisco CA (09/19/08)
On 9/18/08 I was making almond crusted salmon in a blue pyrex dish. The dish was in the oven at approx 350 degrees. I removed the dish to add the sauce and put it in the broiler to brown for approximately 1-1/2 mins. As I set the pyrex on top of the oven, I turned to get another pan and the pyrex EXPLODED.

Surprisingly, I didn't get hit with glass. I've never seen a warning label for pyrex stating what temperatures are unsafe.
