I baked a banana bread loaf in my Pyrex baking dish. When I took it out of the oven (350 degrees) I set it on top of the stove and let it cool for a couple hours. Then I was taking it to my dining room to turn it over and get it out of the baking dish and the dish broke into 3 pieces while I was holding it..

I really liked the baking dish as it was an unusual size and made a smaller loaf than a normal bread loaf. I would just be satisfied to have the dish replaced. Thankfully no injury was involved but I thought Pyrex should tell consumers that breakage could occur for no apparent reason.

While preparing dinner on Sunday, Sept. 7th a Pyrex round baking dish EXPLODED on top of the stove. I had just grilled some vegetables (zucchini and eggplant) in the oven on a cast iron grill and removed them, putting them into the Pyrex dish which I set on top of a back burner that was turned off. I had done this many times before. Suddenly, I heard a loud bang. The dish EXPLODED, sending large pieces of glass flying all over the kitchen.

Fortunately, I had been standing by the sink and was not injured. Our 6 year old son was asleep on the sofa in our family room and my wife was watching tennis in the living room. But, usually our son sits in the kitchen and watches TV or does his homework, while I prepare dinner. After I cleaned up the mess, I was SO SHAKEN by what could have happened, I could not eat a thing.

Today I was baking chicken in the pyrex dish in our oven. The dish was covered with tin foil as I did not want the chicken to dry out. The oven temp was 350. I have baked with this dish many times and never had such an experience as today. The chicken was browned before placing in the pyrex dish. I had also sprayed the dish with PAM. I was in the bedroom and husband was in the living room. I heard a terrible swoosh sound so did my husband.

He went to the kitchen as he could see smoke coming from the stove. He imediately turned off the oven and waited a few minutes before opening the oven door. When he did it was evident that fluid was dripping from the dish. He went to remove the dish and found it was in pieces. In the meantime he had yelled for me and I was stunned about the dish just breaking into pieces. It had shattered into many pieces, large, and small.I was racking my brain thinking how could this happen. The dish has stamped on it microwave safe do not use in the broiler.

I would apreciate you informing me as to what if anything can be done about this. I was reviewing where others have had similar type problems. Mine just shattered in the oven. Thank you for allowing me to vent and for you taking the time to review this complaint. Oh one more thing I take coumadin so I am very thankful it exploded in the oven and not when the dish would have been removed as that might have caused a real serious accident. I questioned myself about using PAM and Tin foil. I just wanted you to know all the circumstances involved.

Oven needed cleaned and dinner was ruined.

I was cooking scalloped potatoes at the temp directed, while standing in my kitchen doing the dishes i heard a loud bang/popping noise. i turned towards my oven and there was smoke coming out of every inch of my oven. I reached to shut off the oven waited a few minutes, opened the oven door and realized the bang i had heard was my Pyrex dish exploding inside my oven.

I took an extra large Pyrex bakeware dish (manufactured in the 1998-present range) out of my 350 degree oven and set it on top of the stove. There was heat coming from the vent in the back left burner, but no burner was turned on. I continued fixing some food on the counter to the right of the stove, with my toddler next to me. About 5 minutes after setting the dish on the stove, it EXPLODED! No one had touched the dish, knocked the dish, dropped the dish, etc. Glass flew all over my kitchen! My family heard the EXPLOSION and came running--but I told them to stop because of the glass all over the stove, counters, and floor--reaching all the way to the doors.

Somehow the glass did not hit where my toddler and I had been to the right of the stove in our little 3 foot spot other than the sprinkling of glass to the left of my left arm/waist resting on the counter and the deadly looking shard that came within two inches of me. My husband said it was a miracle we were o.k.

We were not injured, and other than the scare and the mess, we are o.k. I am angry at the thought of what would have happened to my toddler if he had been sitting on the floor playing like he had been only moments before I moved him over next to me. How many incidents have gone unreported?
