I purchased a Rheem tankless water heater at Home Depot. After a year one of the heating element popped. I have no hot water. I purchased the heating element on their website since May 21. Today is June 8th, I still have not received it. I didn't want to purchase the part on Amazon because I wanted to make sure I get the original part. I didn't want them to void my warranty. Avoid their website if you can find the part somewhere else.

I am finished with Rheem. I have to have the inside coil replaced every three years. They keep leaking. Consistent failures like that can only be inferior product.

Poor quality, Hot water heater failed in less than 1 year. Customer service rep was nice but could help with a part that that was need for 2 weeks. Got next day from Amazon. In order to get reimbursed for the part that couldn’t provide you have to spend an hour uploading and jumping through hoops.

Installed a 50 gallon Rheem Marathon water heater. At a customer's house. The lifetime warranty was the sell. I advised against it. I’m not a fan of any heater from Home Depot. In three months I have nothing but issues. Can’t set the the thermostats like a normal water heater or the breaker trips from overheating. Asked for new ones. It’s been two months. I haven’t received them.

Now I have a wire that went bad from where you connect the electric to the upper thermostat. Bad wire inside the heater My customer wants this heater out of his house. I don’t blame him. In 20 years of doing plumbing and I’m A master plumber. Happy it has a lifetime warranty cause. This piece of trash is going back. I’ve never had so many issues or call backs. No help from service. I’ve lost a customer. I have to pay to make this right. I’ll never put in a rheem product again. And I advise anyone not to buy any rheem product.

I purchased a new Rheem air conditioner on sept. 11, 2024. In May 2026 my air conditioner was not cooling. I contacted the hvac company that installed my unit (Uniqie Air Heating and Cooling) and they found a leak in the coil and had to add refrigerant, because it was at 60%. They quoted me $2000.00 to replace the coil, even though it was under warranty, that was my cost for labor!!!! I feel this is totally unacceptable!!! For a 1.5 year old unit!!!!! Why do I have to pay for a manufacturer defect!!! Just wanted to share my experience, in case other people are looking to buy a rheem air conditioner. I would say, do not buy rheem!!!!

I purchased a Rheem water softener and was genuinely excited about the Wi-Fi features and the convenience it promised. Unfortunately, that excitement disappeared almost immediately. From the very beginning, the unit was defective. It would not perform an automatic recharge as designed, which is one of the most basic and critical functions of a water softener. Instead, I had to manually initiate regeneration every single time, completely defeating the purpose of owning a “smart” system.

I reached out to Rheem customer service expecting support, but what I experienced was extremely disappointing. It took 5 days to receive the first response. When they finally replied, instead of addressing the issue or offering a replacement, they had me start troubleshooting a brand-new unit. I was instructed to clean internal components, including the injector and venturi assembly, on a system that had just been installed. I followed all directions and provided them with the requested data and results. After that, I waited another 6 days for a response—only to receive more questions and additional instructions to further disassemble the unit.

This pattern continued: long delays between responses, repetitive troubleshooting steps, and no real resolution. At no point did they offer to send a technician or replace what was clearly a defective unit. The burden was entirely placed on me to diagnose and fix a product that should have worked out of the box. The lack of urgency, poor communication, and refusal to stand behind their product made it clear that this was not a company willing to support its customers. Thankfully, I was still within the return window at Home Depot, so I returned the unit. That was the only part of this experience that went smoothly.

Bottom line: do not waste your time or money on Rheem water softeners. Between the defective product and extremely poor customer service, this was one of the most frustrating purchase experiences I’ve had.

Rheem sent a plumber to check out my consistent problem who was “too busy for this”. He looked at the machine on the wall and said it was fine. Many dollars later it was a faulty mixing valve. Rheem should compensate but have ignored me.

In 2022 I bought a 4-ton 15 seer brand new rude AC unit. In 2024 the condenser motor went out and we had to replace it paying for shipping, after hours emergency visit from the technician and labor which amounted to over $200. Now it is April of 2026 and the motor has gone out again. Now it is costing me $470 for shipping, labor and emergency call to a technician. Why am I having to replace a 4-year-old unit with a motor twice in 4 years it's a piece of junk. I called customer service they told me that the technician had to call their distributor service technician. He did and was told so many things could happen to it you'll just have to keep replacing the motor. This is not satisfactory.

Buying a $6,000 unit and having to replace the motor every 2 years? What kind of machinery is this? I thought it's supposed to be a good quality AC and it's not. I'm still under warranty for six more years so in 2 years am I going to have to replace the motor again? I want better satisfaction from Rheem that they don't seem to want to do anything and don't care. Don't buy from them.

July 7th, 2023, ARS Rescue Rooter AC & Heating installed Rheem R-410A heat pump outdoor unit Model Number: W172367287, Serial Number: RP14az24aj2na. I have had trouble every summer. I realize I just gave away $10,000 and definitely do not have the money to purchase another unit. The compressor failed last summer, and now they're saying I need a coil. After reading other reviews, I realize that this will probably never stop and the problems will continue. I am sick to my stomach.

Our A/C contractor chose the brand. We were satisfied because our very old, very reliable glass lined water heater was a Rheem. That tank lasted nearly six years longer than our repairman (who did all the annual inspections) predicted. So it appeared as if Rheem was a reliable brand. Sadly, the same can't be said for our A/C unit. Shame on us for not doing our homework to make sure the Rheem A/C unit was as reliable as the water heater. Our A/C unit is < 5 years old and (We bought it just prior to Hurricane Ian. Unfortunately we had to replace our roof and lost paper files due to water damage) we've put $1,500+ in repairs. We have a 10 year warranty on parts but the labor is expensive.

One of the first things we did after Ian was have our A/C inspected and a Thoroughly cleaned (in addition to our 2 annual service calls). We have our duct work professionally cleaned, we contracted for two annual inspections/cleanings, use premium HEPA filters changed every 3 months or less (depending on pollen and air quality due to a health issue), perform grill cleaning inside and outside monthly, keep our A/C at 78° in the summer (we're Snowbirds) and 74° the months we're in residence. In short, I can't think of anything we didn't do to take good care of our unit. Yet we're experiencing these high repair costs. The couple who previously owned or house were very happy with the A/C contractor's service and reputation so we continued with them.

Before you buy a new A/C unit, I advise you dig into brand reliability, choose your contractor wisely, have them do a load test prior to selecting the brand and model of your unit so that your needs are matched to the unit. Read customer satisfaction reviews, good and bad, and weigh the upfront brand cost vs. most common repairs and their costs. Consider asking your contractor what brand units do they get the least number of parts failure and repair service calls on. Then check it against Consumer reports or other independent testing and reporting sources. Be sure to avoid any reviews that are sponsored and read the bottom line to be sure you're not reading an advertorial report.

An FYI. Any A/C units built prior to 2025 that use R-410 A refrigerant may be more difficult to buy parts for 2028 because those parts can not legally be produced. It is a government effort to stop as much ozone damage as possible (the reason freon isn't used anymore and substitutes like R-410A are used (though they too do damage). So if you're going to buy a new A/C unit be sure to investigate the tie to which refrigerant the unit uses. It may cost more in the short run but you won't get caught out for parts in the near future.

I bought a top of the line unit 5 years ago. I have had 3 compressor failures and 1 control board failure. They will replace the parts, but I have to spend about $2.5k each time to fix it in labor, because labor is not included. They would be happy for me to keep spending money to replace the compressor. These guys hide behind their warranty and refuse to work with the customer on these types of event. I am out over $15k and all I have is a boat anchor. DO NOT BUY THIS JUNK!

Absolutely floored by the terrible design, lack of support, and above all the coverage on these systems. We purchased a home in 2021 that was 4 years old at the time. The A/C promptly quit working shortly there after, conveniently. So we had someone come out, assess it, no leak found, and recharge it with 9lbs of r410a for nearly $1000.00. The following spring, same thing. No leak found, another $750.00ish to charge, still had some in it. Once again in 2024, this time a leak was found on the outdoor unit. A repair was made, charged to specs again, and we got about 20 months out of it. This week the A/C quit cooling again. I took a look at the inside unit as I could hear a rhythmic sound, and found a pinhole leak from an aluminum capillary tube that goes from the coils to the thermal expansion valve. The part, if you can find it, runs about $100.00. But NO ONE will replace it.

Either no one knows how to work with solder, no one wants to work with solder, or they simply like replacing units. The company that came out advised us to replace the entire coil, appx $3000.00. Or simply purchase a new unit all together for an $8000.00 peace of mind. Ridiculous that a less than 10 year old system is a candidate for complete replacement, and worse yet that it's been giving us problems since it was 4 years old. These systems are planned obsolescence.

Speaking with Rheem/Rudd was no help, as the unit is out of warranty, as confirmed by them AND the servicing company. They're more than happy to sell you coverage, but won't stand behind their products. The A/C in our starter home was 20 years old when we bought it, and served us well for nearly a decade before we sold the house and moved. Beyond disappointed in this company and the product they put forward. They know these things aren't built to last. When the time comes to replace the system I will not buy one of these clunkers.

Install Bradford White, A.O. Smith, Navien/Rinnai etc before you consider them. Just know they will lie about part availability and lead times. Then you’ll call them numerous times to confirm shipment. They'll continue to tell you it'll ship. Keep checking back. Then they’ll have their vendor leave you a message canceling your order and telling you they never had the part (2 weeks later). Glad I trusted them. Only reason I didn’t cancel was because the restock fee. No penalty when they cancel.

Well this cost us more than the 10% fee. Additional 300 for the part, cost me 3 weeks of time, many wasted phone calls where we were LIED to and a significant discount to our customer to save face because they FAILED EPICALLY! And I still have to order it somewhere else. Tried calling into them directly. Sat on hold. Gave callback number. Been hours and I don’t expect them to call back. I appreciate your proficient customer support and product support. Stay away! They will let you down just as hard as the Cleveland Browns do to their fans every year. I am a licensed general contractor in Connecticut and New York, and I purchased a Rheem water softener from Home Depot. After just two months, it started leaking, and I lost thousands of square feet of flooring. I replaced the faulty part, but it began leaking again, causing me to rip out and replace my entire floor a second time. To make matters worse, the valve behind the machine—where you control the water—has no warranty. The company refused any support. I warn everyone—seniors, families, and young homeowners—to stay away from Rheem. You will lose your floors.

Terrible service! I wanted an efficient reliable hot water heater and decided on established brand, hybrid (heat pump) HWH. It was purchased by plumber doing the entire new house being built in 2024 thus was ordered 12/‘24. My contractor noticed the brand new HWH throwing an error code. We had the plumbers return, diagnosed a faulty computer unit They said “oh no, not another one”. Apparently Rheem had shipped out a bad batch. They ordered a replacement computer, it required about 10 minutes to swap out, two screws and maybe three electrical connections.

I moved into the brand new house 7/25, it threw an error code AGAIN. Assuming it was the computer again i got myself through the holidays and contacted the plumbers again. Yup, SAME issue. This time, i am charged $560 for the plumbers to do the 10 minute repair! Is this going to keep happening?! If it goes out twice, in less than a year of use, i think it should at least be covered by warranty and preferably replaced with a unit that is not faulty! Don’t do it, don’t buy from folks that set you up for endless issues and no recourse!
