Royal Prestige cookware, water filters and other household goods are manufactured by the Hi Cite Corporation and sold through a nationwide network of distributors, who use the "party plan" and "person-to-person" methods -- meaning bridal fairs, "seminars" and so forth.
The company says it has instituted new policies to prevent unsavory practices by its distributors and has submitted a statement explaining its policies and practices (full text of the company's statement).
It's up to consumers to make the right decision. The company says it has improved its practices, but some consumers are still unhappy. Here are a few of the more recent complaints (and compliments) we've received:
Carmen of Glendale, AZ August 25, 2008
Carmen of Glendale AZ (08/25/08) we bought a water destillator 7 years ago, that machine stop working like 1 year ago, they send a rep to fix it, but the problem still, I called the company and they asked me to send it for repairs, so I did. after few weeks I called them asking for my machine and they told me they could't find it in that time, and they will call me as soon they have more information. they called me back asking me for at least 800.00 to repair it,
I do have a warranty for 15 years, but according to them is not good, this machine cost us about 4500.00. I did asked them to send me everything in a letter and they never did, the only thing they had done since then is to called me to let me know I am still delinquet for that machine what is not true because I did send my last payments of 2,000.00 to their distributor. I will like some help please because at this time I do not have my water destillator and I still buying water from the water machines.
because of this not resolve problem I feel they are playing games with us, we are a family that work a lot to buy thing that can help our family's health, this machine didn't cost us 4500.00 Terra of Cheyenne, WY August 24, 2008
Terra of Cheyenne WY (08/24/08) I went to a Royal Prestige party and was very impressed with the cookware they offered. My husband and I paid over a thousand dollars for a set, and 2 years later we still love our Royal Prestige cookware. It's durable and cooks everything perfectly. When we first received our set, there was a manufacturing problem with one of our pots. We sent them the faulty pot and they sent us a new one immediatly.
The price may sound outrageous (we almost didn't buy it ourselves) but it comes with a 50 yr warranty and works great. I'm glad I bought the set and if I ever need any cookware again I'll buy from Royal Prestige. Allisha of Crystal River, FL August 22, 2008
Allisha of Crystal River FL (08/22/08) i was contacted by phone late about my engagement and that i have won prizes.... curious i looked them up on the internet. and thanks to your site i didnt fall into a sticky situation.
if it wasnt for your site it would have been a disaster Lindsay of Elgin, IL August 19, 2008
Lindsay of Elgin IL (08/19/08) I purchased pots and pans from Royal Prestiage in October 2006. I have been paying monthly a total of 98.00 per month. The pans are horrible pans. First I tried to cancel the purchase and they notified me that I had to cancel the pans (in writing) three days following the purchase. My first thought, pretty hard to do and what a rip off. But that is how the get people to buy into their products and not back out. My husband and I were a newly engaged couple and were sent a notice that if we sat through the seemly simple meeting we would get a free vacation to Cancun.
Wow were we wrong. First it was very high pressure. They tried to scare you by saying other pans were not as safe because the other pots did not have this nifty steam sensor (or whatever it is). These pans will not boil over...These pans can keep food in, they are vacuummed sealed...and on and on like that for a good two hours. Then they said well, Lets just talk That is when it got bad. The lady my husband and I talked to was rude and pushy.
So anyway, we get the pans and we can't return them my husband and I decided whatever we will do what we can with what we have. We were dooped. The first time I used the frying pan it burnt my food and set off the smoke detector and I WAS STANDING RIGHT THERE. Now we are coming into the second half of 2008 and we have been paying monthly (although it makes me sick to see the payment go out every month). I did my calculations off of what the lady at the seminar told me, This is all you have to pay [disclose amount] nothing more. Don't ever believe that from anyone at ROYAL PRESTIAGE.
I looked at my payment history thinking okay we will be paid up in October 2008. No I still have an insane amount on my credit, because of the finance charges. All in all we will end up paying over 5,000. For what three pots, two pans, and a few knives. I did not read the entire contract, they make it near to impossible to read the contract with all the talking and shoving things in your face.
Recently I received a call from Royal Prestiage, at work, because I'm a VIP Customer. They wanted me to buy more products. Lets just say I let the guy on the other line have it. I will NEVER buy another product from Royal Prestiage. I will NEVER recommend them to ANYONE. Recently I have sought out help. We will see what happens.
In the end I will pay that company more than 5,000.00. They have caused me some physical problems (mostly due to stress) and the fighting about Royal Prestiage almost caused my husband and I to divorce. We were married only one year. This company caused a lot of problems in my life and they are scam artist. Kari of Ames, IA July 30, 2008
Kari of Ames IA (07/30/08) We were also duped at a Royal Prestige demonstration. We were told that all interest paid over the course of making payments on the cookware would be refunded to use to buy additional products from their catalogue. I called them when we had paid off the amount, and they laughed in my face. They also told me I was on the student rate interest plan, but then I was charged 24%.
Finally, the dishes and glasses we received we of poor quality. The pattern was supposed to feature a thin line of shiny platinum around the edges of all products. What we got was something that looked like it had been painted with a paint marker. I called RP and they said it would come off with vinegar. I've even tried toilet bowl cleaner, and the line is still dull gray and very uneven. It looks horrible.
We are out 2400 and spent way, way too much time on the phone dealing with RP. Their customer service is terrible and lies and does not follow through with anything. We have terrible looking dishes that I am embarrassed to use when we have company.
