Royal Prestige cookware, water filters and other household goods are manufactured by the Hi Cite Corporation and sold through a nationwide network of distributors, who use the "party plan" and "person-to-person" methods -- meaning bridal fairs, "seminars" and so forth.

The company says it has instituted new policies to prevent unsavory practices by its distributors and has submitted a statement explaining its policies and practices (full text of the company's statement).

It's up to consumers to make the right decision. The company says it has improved its practices, but some consumers are still unhappy. Here are a few of the more recent complaints (and compliments) we've received:

Michael of Scottsdale AZ (05/22/06)
My wife and I recently read an article from Lisa Wade McCormick about Royal Prestige cookware. We had the exact same experience as those mentioned in the article. My wife was suckered into purchasing a crappy set of pots and pans for 2400 at an astounding 24% APR. When I learned about the transaction we did everything possible to negotiate a solution, return the items at a loss, etc. but these folks are well trained in combating this. I would expect that half or more of their jobs is telling people there is nothing they can do.

In Lisa's article, the president states that their cookware is of Williams Sonoma quality or better. As far as I have seen, the top of the line cookware at Williams Sonoma comes in at about 500 and it is beautiful. Nowhere near the 2,400 we were charged. Why would the President cite this as comparable when the price is so far off?

The "world's finest cookware" is anything but fine. We are stuck with a payment of 47 per month when the finance rate of 24% means interest of 51.79 per month. So we would be going further in debt the longer we make the minimum payment. We are newly married and this definately caused us to ramp up arguments about finances very early. The bottom line is that we cannot afford this.
