I had Scotts tell me I needed this fertilizer, and I needed this insect spray, I needed this weed killer and after months of seeing NO results, I called a local place, Fayette Lawn care, the guy came out gave me a Estimate and it was way cheaper then scotts, after his second application it starting looking like a new yard, I have been with them now for 2 seasons and now my yard is something to be proud of, and my bank account is reaping the benefits also....... go local and small, there the people who really care.

For the last 12 years, I've had a difficult time finding a lawn service I can trust to put down chemical applications in a timely matter and ACTUALLY see the difference. The past 2 years I have spent a little bit extra as a last ditch effort to give me a beautiful lawn again. Scotts Lawn Service sent me information and I was at first reluctant to spend a few extra bucks, but with names like Miricle Gro, Turfbuilder, and Ortho Weed B Gone, how could I not.

In the past, my lawn was just good enough to not get laughed at. Since Scotts has taken over, I am complimented on a weekly if not daily basis. The crabgrass problem I had is nowhere to be found. The fungus problems I had are minimal at worst, and I'm now growing grass in the thin areas that I figured was impossible to grow grass in.

Last summer, I had their service manager come out to discuss the disease issues I'd had in the past and were starting again. He was full of information that I thought may have been some hot air. I did exactly what he reccommended, and he was spot on with his analysis. Goodbye ugly brown patches, Hello green lawn! I can now say I have the nicest lawn on the block. I actually don't want my neighbors to know who takes care of it in fear they will take over my title.  Thank you Scotts Lawn Service. . . Thank you!

I took out two years of 10 visits a year and paid up front as they promised at the end of two years my lawn would be improved by 95%. The first year went well with a slight improvement. This year they showed up in April and then not again until early August. I made several calls and was told I was on the list for that week. Needless to say I am not very happy and intend to take them to small claims cour for a total refund.

I actually worked for Scotts Lawn Service. Scotts has been around for years and have built their brand name. However, having worked for the company, I've seen the inside scams that Scotts Lawn Service operates on. Scotts Lawn Service is run by individuals. I've witnessed how Scotts Lawn Service hired many off of the street, with no certifications or professional backgrounds, to provide lawn care for hundreds of paying and loyal customers. I also witnessed how some of the technicians would ghost a customers lawn. When I use the term ghost, I am referring to when a technician pretends to provide service on a customers lawn (whether the customer was at home or not) and deceptively leaves them a bill! I found this outrageous, as there were tons of calls from customers wondering why weeds were still growing on their lawns, their lawns were dying and turning brown, or even new problems would surface on their lawns.

Scotts Lawn Service denied many refunds, credits, corrective services, etc, to deserving customers who DID NOT get what they were paying for. The management staff running Scotts Lawn Service knew what was taking place, yet they sat by idlely and watched as customer service battled with upset customers, while throwing the Service Agreement in the customers' faces and quoting things that the customer did not really understand to begin with. All every customer wanted, was a good-looking, green lawn, like Scotts Lawn Service promised in the beginning through deceptive advertising. Overall, many customers who trusted Scotts Lawn Service, where cheated out of their money.

I witnessed, first-hand, how greedy and shady of a company Scotts Lawn Service has become. I sincerely hope that they are put out of business for their lawn care scams. There was even a case that was conducted by the EPA, which identified Scotts Lawn Service as not properly registering some of their lawn care products. The staff at the Scotts Lawn Service branch were told to follow a script to persuade customers that there was no real concern. Consequently, working for the company, I knew that there was something wrong. The actuality of the EPA situation, was that Scotts Lawn Service formulated a harsher chemical to try to deal with some lawn issues, as a result of some ineffective products.

Scotts intentionally did not register the product(s) in an attempt to test their effectiveness on lawns. Scotts was hoping that they would not get caught...but they did. However, they found a legal way to elude the accusation against them. I no longer work for Scotts Lawn Service and I am greatful.

Heather of Fishers, IN August 27, 2008

I started with Scotts in Fall 07 for one reason - crabgrass. They made promises their preventative is 99% effective and they would take care of it. In June 08 the crabgrass hit full force. The area between the road and sidewalk is mostly crabgrass, worse than last year. My backyard is much worse this year as well. They then told me I should pay for the overseeding and areation to help fix it, which had never been told to me before so there went another 250 on top of the 600+ I had paid for the year.

Scott's showed up Aug 13 to do my overseeding and areation. I was told this would be done in the Fall when I signed up so I was concerned. I asked how the grass would take in the August heat and with healthy crabgrass thriving everywhere. I was told to water everyday which is impossible for me. I was home at the time but did not watch the application. I went out to look at the bare spots all over my yard a couple of hours later. I could find no seed. I only found a few plugs pulled up here and there, but not many.

I reported the issue to a supervisor and he said he'd refund the crabgrass preventative and redo the overseeding. He came to my property and left notes the areation was not done propertly and he acknowledged my crabgrass issue. He told me their crabgrass preventative is only 70% effective so they don't guarantee anything better than 30% crabgrass in the lawn. Over 600 a year seems a bit steep for that. I told him the person who sold me on their service said it was 99% effective and they need to get their story straight. This was typical throughout the year for Scott's to change the promise as they did not deliver. He also explained that overseeding is recommended anytime between Aug and Nov. I told him I expected the service in the Fall as I was originally told, I don't care that Aug is in the recommended window of time. I

called back today to ask where my refund is. He said he would not refund the crabgrass preventative (which was totally ineffective and I clearly explained I was not satisfied) but would refund 98.80 of my 250 paid for overseeding/areation. He said they normally do overseeding for free for customers with lots of crabgrass (funny no one told me this before and they took my 250). The money is yet to be refunded to me and I don't have high hopes since I've been at this for 2 weeks. I am now pulling masses of crabgrass by hand to try and stave off the spreading. I'm reseeding it with patch master myself, thus not avoiding the problem I clearly explained upfront. I don't trust them to fix the issue and I'm not waiting another year. It's been 2 weeks since they put down the seed and I see nothing coming up and I've watered at least 2 areas of the lawn each day. My own patch master is working great though after just 1 week!

I told him I wanted my service discontinued as soon as my prepaid visits were over. I also told him I wanted all visits to be scheduled with me first. I want to be home to supervise the applications as I do not trust them anymore. They also performed weed control visits early in the year where the weeds were still thriving days after the application. I had to call them back several times to demand another visit to fix the issue. Overall it was a horrible waste of of about 830 this year. If you want something done right, unfortunately you have to do it yourself. Don't be fooled by the prospect of getting out of yard work.
