Other Sears Complaints

Sears can be a good place to buy an appliance. It has a large selection, including its own Kenmore brand, and its service is available pretty much everywhere. The drawbacks are that bureaucracy can get in the way of customer service, meaning Sears can trip over itself and land on the customer, as many of the complaints in this section show.

Some unlucky souls, like those below, seem to have trouble with all their Sears appliances.

Cari of Arlington TN (7/6/04):
Back in March 2002 my husband & I purchased a washer & dryer, refrigerator, dishwasher and range for our brand-new home. Since that time, we have had the washing machine fixed twice, the dryer fixed once, the dishwasher fixed twice (I have another service call pending now!), the range fixed once, and the refrigerator fixed 5 times! I just think that this is absolutely ridiculous!

Each time that we had to have the appliances fixed of course, it was out of warranty so we would pay a $60.00 service call plus whatever the parts cost. The last time we had our range fixed I found out the Sears showed that we bought our appliances in 1999 (we were not even married nor did we have a house then) so that is why they would never cover anything under the warranty.

There is no reason for appliances that are this new to be broken this much. It is all the time. This week I have a service call for my range and my dishwasher! You can bet this is the LAST Sear/Kenmore appliance that I or any of my family will ever own.

Brett of Huntley IL (4/19/04):
We purchased brand new appliances - Kenmore washer & dryer; & stove (gas range) for our new home. Approximately 14 months after purchase the washing machine broke and the range started showing a bizarre code in the LED display; now 18 months from purchase, the dryer has stopped working as well. These machines are not abused, they have average use for a family of 4, and this is quite ridiculous to have them go out so soon.

Kenmore has ALWAYS been a name I trusted, but now, I would rather trust a simple $200 washing machine far above this $630 machine. Needless to say, I will complain to someone at Sears corporate if this so-called customer service and repair entourage cannot fix them without a substantial charge to me.
