More about Sears

Janice of Des Moines IA (1/5/05):
About two years ago, we purchased a Sears snowthrower. The very first time (maybe ten minutes) we used it, the belt broke. OK, I know, belts break, so trot down to the local Sears store, only to find out that the belt does not exist in Iowa. So, online we go to order this elusive belt, only to be shipped something that defines explanation. The belt we received had nothing to do with snowthrowers. I ended up calling the main office in Illinois and virtually yelling at them. We finally received the proper belt.

Last year, no snow.

This year a record snowfall. Guess what, after the first 10 minutes, the auger won't turn. Shear pin is ok. I haven't dismantled the snowthrower yet to see if it's the belt, but I'm betting it is. I won't explain the huge area we have to snowthrow, but it's a lot with ours and a rental property. Our community has a 24 hour time period to get walks cleared. We shoveled for 2 days the first year, and thankfully didn't get fined.

Robert of New Baltimore, MI, writes:
I purchased a snow blower on 3/6/99. It was the last one in the store at the time. I was told it was considered a used blower. I needed it because we had some deep snow at the time. The store did not furnish me with any owner's manual or instructions as to how to use the blower. The store is accusing me of using straight gas instead of an oil/mixture to run the blower. Yes, I'll admit I did use straight gas however, there was no indications on the blower that reflected a oil/mixture was to be used.

I am not a mechanically inclined person and I thought the machine could be run on regular gas like a lawn mower. I took the blower to the repair center located on 15 Mile and Mound and they will not repair the blower because of what I did. I spoke with Mr. McHenry at the 23 Mile Branch of Sears and he would not OK the repair of the blower. I have since retired and I am living on a fixed income and I cannot come up with $400.00 to repair this blower.
