Troy-Bilt

Kim of Fort Madison, IA June 21, 2009

Purchased a Troy-Bilt Cultivator 4 years ago from Lowe's. I have had it worked on 7 times since bringing it home. The company will NOT stand behind the product. Of course, Lowe's is NO help at all, just want to sell me a "different" brand. I have contact Troy-Bilt several times. They are no help and feel they are not responsible in any shape or form. This year, I've had it to the shop 3 times. I hate to junk it out as it looks brand new! I was always under the impression Troy-Bilt was a wonderful machine! The cost was 299 and have put at least another 300 in repairs over the years!! So frustrating!

Jessica of Idaho Falls, ID June 13, 2009

Bought a Troybilt push lawn mower in April 2008. Used it throughout the season with problems with the tires -it sometimes won't let you pull it backwards (not too fun around trees!). I didn't think anything about it and fired it up again for the 2009 season. We've used it 4-5 times so far. My son mowed the neighbor's yard and all the tires locked up and the self-propel wouldn't engage. I "pushed it" back and forth as much as I could and got the tires turning and push-mowed most of our yard. I called the 800 # on the mower and it took them 3-4 days to get back with us about the "service" dealer. It was on the web-site, so I found it after my hubby hung up. We can't find the receipt -of course! But they found our purchase and will honor the warranty.

I took it to the service dealer and they've had it about 1 1/2 weeks (they said that's about how long it would be). They informed me this morning that the transmission was shot and that the part was on order. The tech that helped me when I dropped it off said they had another Troybilt in the shop with that same problem and that the parts were on backorder (they've had the mower in for several weeks already!).

I called the 800#'s listed in the manuals -all of course wouldn't let you talk to a real person, but I finally got to one about finding a service dealer. I told her I wanted to know how Troybilt was going to reimburse me needed to rent a mower or buy a new one while I waited the whole season to get mine fixed - She said she was sure they did nothing, but gave me the warranty #.

Mike of Urbandale, IA June 10, 2009

Purchase a lawnmower model 830 (per the manual) in July of 2008. Now June 2009 and the transminsion has failed. Can no get the waranty due to the fact I can not locate my receipt. This was purchase from Lowes in Des Moines Iowa and the model was made to Lowes specs! I have had 2 quotes for repair ranging anywhere from 150 - 250. that is half the cost or mor then what I paid for it. and I am now waiting for a third.

Linda of Charlotte, NC June 9, 2009

I purchased a Troy built self propelled lawn mower 2 years ago. It has been repaired 3 times for the same self propulsion problem, now (it's out of warrenty) it needs a new transmition. This mower has been a lemon from the start, the coustomer service is non existant with everyone passing the buck. This is a terrible product. I will never shop at Lowes again or buy a troybuilt anything!

daniel of Wildwood, NJ June 7, 2009

purchased a weed wacker model TB45E last spring it was the worst product i ever purchased. it never really worked right well may be the first time i used it. i replaced parts which were as inferior as the product. had it "fixed" yesterday 6/6/09 got to use it for about 45 seconds when it failed again. Now i have to borrow my neighbors beat up old black and decker, which looks about 10 years old, and works fine. needless to say that i am extremely dissatisfied and will never purchase a troy built product.

I bought a Troy-bilt at Lowes in Aug 08 and have nothing but trouble. First the engine would not start unless you sprayed it with ether. Then the drive belt keeps falling off. Troy-bilt will only honor the warranty for parts on the mover nothing on the engine and nothing for labor. The most amazing things is that Lowes continues to sell Troy-bilt. I have a lower opinion of Lowes because of Troy-bilt.

Frank of Flowery Branch, GA May 11, 2009

I bought a new lawnmower in 2007(Model#12AV839N711). It's a rear drive model. It was used the summer of 2007 and 2008. The rear drive wheels which never worked properly completely failed in 2008.

This summer (2009), I have used it 3 or 4 times. This weekend one of the rear wheels fell off(doh). Now that the wheel is off I can see that 2 of the gears in the wheel are made of plastic and are completely stripped. This probably happened back in 2008. One of these gears is affixed to the wheel and having so much of the plastic grinded away has caused the wheel to come off.

Troy-Bilt's motto is "Will Last a Lifetime". My mower's drive system lasted 2 summers.

Dave of Oklahoma City, OK May 10, 2009

I bought a Troy-bilt RZT colt on July 11, 2008. When I got the unit home, the front tire was flat. Took it back to Lowe's and they gave me another tire and wheel. Took it home and re-installed wheel. Sonce then, I have had tto remove the front tires and wheels 7 times to fe=inflate the tires. The bead on the tubeless tires will not stay seated. Finally, I put tubes in both front tires. The second time i used the mower, the idle tension spring broke. I took it off, and re=bent the spring, re- installed it so that I could mow. Within 30 days of purchase, the front strip of metal fell off the deck, going under the mower and causing both blades to bend. Took it to Troy-bilt service provider, they repaired the deck and charged me for a new set of blades plus being down for 3 weeks. Today found the bolts were coming out of metal strip again. Replaced bolts in strip myself. The 1sr repair shop said that I should not have repaired the spring myself, as it could void the warranty for the deck. Now spindle assembly is broken on right side, new part is 100 plus 17 shipping. Since it still is in warranty, I will take it to a different repair shop on Monday. My opinion of Troy-bilt products is simple. They are a POS!!! I will never buy a Troy-bilt or MTD product again. Its cheaper and less frustrating to spend more money and get quality.
