Robert of Corona, CA September 25, 2009 I was canning tomatoes in glass jars in a large pot on a Whirlpool gas range top and had not even reached 140 degrees fahrenheit when the range base glass exploded throwing glass pieces all over the kitchen. Upon inspection it became obvious that the heat reflected back from the underside of the pot caused the tempered glass plate that houses the burners and control knobs to explode. The house which we just bought 1-1/2 years offered an upgrade to this range top for 665. Looking back on the selection I think this was a dad selection. Whirlpool knows this is a problem because in reading the instructions there is a statement regarding canning that instructs the user to move the pot to a different burner after each batch. That's obviously to spread the heat around. I never got to the end of the first batch. My guess is I'm going to have to fight this one since the warranty is stated as 1 year limited. We'll see. I could be out close to 1000.00 but the main point is to warn others of the potential for injury. Kathryn of Franklin, TN September 25, 2009 I have a Whirlpool Gold slide in gas range model #GW395LEPS00. I purchased it in October 2006. In September 2007 the control board and touch pad were replaced. It was about 300 worth of repairs but it covered under warranty. In December 2008, my oven would not work again. It would pre-heat but not stay hot. Then after a few days of not using the stove it began to work again. Then, in July 2009 the same problem began. Periodically, the oven heats up but fails to stay hot. I had a repair man come to fix it but, of course, it worked just fine while he was here and he could not properly diagnose the problem while it was working. He said if does one thing it is the sensor, if it does something else it is control panel. At any rate, I have had to call him again because now it will not stay hot and the broiler fails to light. I am very upset as this was supposed to be a quality product. It has broken twice in three years. Mary of BENTON, TN September 17, 2009 I have been trying to REASON with the customer service at Whirlpool Cooperation with no results. We have a 2 year old range in a tennants house that caught on fire due to electrical wiring in the console of the range. The fire department was called and we have a detailed report of the fire and what the captain said caused it. When I called Whirlpool for service I was told it ould be days before they could come out. That would have been fine if it were my home but I always try to keep my tennants happy so I asked if it could be sooner. They agreed and the next day after the tennant waiting all morning the tech from A@E called to say he was coming to check my refrigerator. I exclaimed it was a range that had cought on fire and I just wanted someone to confirm it with Whirlpool. He insiste we would need a "rang tech" to come put and he must call the office to report that. I believe 2 days passed and the range tech went out to check the damages and called me to say the rnge will not be under warranty because it was a grease fire. My husband and I happened to be next door checking on another property when the fire happened. We were present as well as the fire department and 2 neighbors. One of the neighbrs had in fact threw water on the range to extinguish the fire. (if it had been a grease fire it would have done much more damage) anyway, when I talded to the supervisor at Whirlpool she told me they would take the word of their tech over what I said. Because I believe Whirlpool should be accountable for the range, I sent pictures and the report from the fire department to M. Teague. That has been over a week and she has not responded to me. The warranty reference is 02-0003080-FD and I have a ticket #8029373418. lost on a 2 year old whirlpool range due to faulty console wiring. I want to be reimbursed. Leah of north las vegas, NV September 10, 2009 The stove itself gets so hot the buttons almost melt. The whole top of the stove and oven get so hot we have been burned. This cannot be ok... It has been so hot that we actually couldn't turn the burners off because they were stuck and melting. I believe it is model # w10099470. This is the most horrible appliance i have ever purchased! Dayle of Vestal, NY August 20, 2009 I purchased a Whirlpool Accubake (Model RBS275PDB6) wall oven in July 0f 1999. To date, I have replaced the thermocouple/sensor 5 times. The first time the store where the oven was purchased came and added some insulation to the wall oven and replaced the fan, but the problem peresisted. The culprit seems to be the self clean cycle. Each failure has occurred after using the self cleaning cycle. The next time you attempt to use the oven, the elements (baking or broiling) refuse to heat. I will NEVER buy another Whirlpool product, or any product of a Whirlpool subsidiary again. Diane of Nevada City, CA August 18, 2009 Electronic oven control became erratic after 6 months' use, now (after less than 1 year's use) not working at all. I see this is a FREQUENT problem on Whirlpool ovens. Product number GW395LEPS00. Fancy schmancy looking thing - all style, no substance, alas. . . Erma of Carlsbad, NM August 5, 2009 Double wall oven Model RBD245PDS12 digital control board went out. Was told to turn off the power so that I would not have a fire. Many conplaints on line about the same problem. Was told that there was not a recall. No ovens for 4 weeks. Will cost aprox 800 to repair. Claire of Tomales, CA August 2, 2009 I purchased this house after my husband died October 2004. The house was new and on the market since 2003. Last month the lower part of the built-in Whirpool Gold double oven no longer heated up. So I used just the top part of the oven until yesterday, when the top control panel issued error codes E6 (red LED) and F2 (blue LED). I checked the fuse in the master fuse box and the oven fuse is not thrown and the lights in the oven still work. I've been on the phone from 9:00 am to 10:15 this morning (mainly on hold) trying to report the problem to Whirlpool. The answering service was located in Texas and the woman was truly trying her best. I received the name of a "local" service, which is not local to me for I'm 18 miles from town in Tomales, CA. The earliest time for an appointment is next Wednesday. I'm retired from the computer industry and using my background in computer circuitry I'm of the opinion that the control panel was designed to fail when the guarantee period expired (within a month of expiration.) It's easy to insert a clock on a motherboard. Matt of Norwood, PA July 21, 2009 Whirpool Gas Range control panel/computer is junk !!! The problem is that if you use the self cleaning buton the oven then throws a fit. The control panel will stop working and you will have to go and order another one from the company at over 200.00. There should be a major recall on this oven as many people have had this problem as well. The only thing I can say is that I will not fix this. There will be another oven here for less money and I know that it will not be built by Whirlpool. Gerald of Port Elgin, ON July 20, 2009 In 2002 I purchased a Whirlpool Gold range from Sears Canada. After about 1 year of operation the stove timer displayed an error message indicating the timer had failed- of course the 1 year warranty was expired. The local dealer for Whirlpool replaced the timer at a cost of 300.00. A month later the timer failed again and was replaced again by the local dealer at no cost to me. At this time the local dealer suggested I contact Whirlpool to establish a record of the probelm I was having and I did so. I should point out that even though the timer failed the top portion of the stove continued to operate, only the oven was unuseable. A year later the same error message indicated the timer had once again failed. On each of the failure occasions I contacted Whirlpool to ask them if this was a recurring problem with this stove model and they denied there was. Report Your Experience
