Ellie of Smock PA (07/24/06)
I purchase a Whirlpool refrigerator/freezer in December 2004. About a month ago, June 2006, I found out that two gallons of milk had frozen completely solid and I lost other food as well. I was reimbursed for the food from Lowes where I purchased the product. I took out an extended warranty so two different service men were sent after waiting 3 weeks to have the problem resolved. Both service companies said it was a thermostat which was very rare. So, it was replaced. Now, July 06, a month later, my freezer is thawing out my food, I had ice cream melted all over the place.

I am a single parent and I am very frustrated with this. I have complained to Lowes, the service people, and now I am voicing my complaint to the public. I feel there should be some type of protection for consumers when they purchase so called lemons.

I have a Gold Edtion Side-by-Side frezzer/fridg that is 18 months old. The fill tube from the water source to the ice maker is freezing. This will cause the icemaker to stop working and the water then slides down the back of the unit on to the floor. I called a service person out and was told this has been a design issue with many of the Whirlpools and I need to have an upgraded kit installed to correct the problem. I phoned the Whirlpool Customer Service center and was told they will not acknowledge or honor the defected design in this model (they have in other models) and I should call out one of their service people for a second opnion. Call me crazy but my damaged wood floors seems to confirm the opnion of the first service repair person.

The upgraded fill tube kit will cost approximately 90.00 and the labor for the repair 150.00. I have no estimate for the damage to my wood floors at this time.

I purchased a Whirlpool 25 cf side by side refrigerator in 2002. Until last week, there were no problems. However, last week a wire to the compressor shorted out and sparked a fire in the insulation below. Fortunately, I was home and the smoke alarms alerted me to the impending danger.

The fire department was called because the smoke was so intense throughout the house. When they finally found the source of the fire and removed the refrigerator from our home, we saw that the hardwood floor under the refrigerator was charred (about the size of a dinner plate). Whirlpool said they would send a factory authorized representative but we would have to pay a 59.00 service charge. The fire department said there was nothing blocking the rear of the refrigerator, there was no dirt or pet hair and no obvious indication of a probable cause of the short/fire. Even if Whirlpool offered to fix the refrigerator at no charge to us, I couldn't keep it in my house for fear it could happen while we were away.

I purchased a Whirlpool Conquest stainless steel refrigerator in February 2004 from SEARS. Within the first year I had a repair service twice for excessive frost buildup on the rear panel in the freezer. I have since had the SAME problem serviced 2 more times and now I need to have a call again for the same problem!!!! I have now owned this product 2 years. The last repair man told me that this is a "common " problem with this unit.

I now have my food freezing in the refrigerated area as well. I have 2 other refrigerators I use. One is 26 years old and I have NEVER had a repair and the other is 15 years old and have NEVER had a repair. I will never buy another Whirlpool appliance again. I paid 1800.00 for this unit.

I purchased a side by side refrigerator Model #RS25AGXNQOO on 2-19-05. One year later, the interior wall of the refrigerator has about 40 hairline cracks in it. I purchased it at Lowe's, and apparently they can't even give me the time of day, much less help me with the replacement of this unit. I of course haven't gotten anything but the runaround from Customer Service at Whirlpool, and the corporate office said they aren't a part of Whirlpool/Roper when I called....HMMM wonder if they were truthful??

I am so disgusted that the first major appliance I purchased, obviously from the wrong people, has had so many problems. They sent a repairman out at first who wanted to patch it, which I refused. Since he basically told me that it wouldn't keep the cracks from getting worse. Now they are wanting me to send pictures so they can decide whether or not to replace it....What jerks!!! It's only a year old, I can't believe Lowe's sells such trash. I've read on several websites that this problem has been occuring in their side by sides for a couple years, and they act like I'm crazy because I refuse to let them just patch up the problem. I think their customer service stinks, and I hope people complain enough that their productivity goes down. It's just so frustrating trying to get them to do the right thing.
