Calvert Homes

A. of Clifton, VA May 15, 2009

Calvert Homes built our house, and we moved in December,15,2007. we noticed right after we moved in that our back yard is soggy all the time. We drew Calvert Homes attention to this matter several times, but we were told this is normal as the house is still settling. 4 months later the basement flooded after a rain storm. Calvert blamed it on malfunctional sump pump, and the plumbing company (PEED)took responsibility and took care of the cost of repair.

The back yard issue continued, and Calvert did some re grading of the land, but that did not resolve the problem. After talking to Fairfax County inspectors, Calvert agreed after months, to put a french drain in the back yard. although this helped a little, however the back yard remains soggy, and "literally" a swamp for 2 days after rain. We tried to contact Calvert again, and initially we got no response to our calls and e mails. recently Mr. Bill D (one of Calvert big people) answered in an e mail, saying that he has no expertise in this matter, and whatever they did last year was enough, and they will do nothing more.

I invited him to see by himself how our back yard is , but he was not interested at all. last night we had rain water getting in the basement again, damaging the carpet. our back yard is coverd with stagnant water, mulch from neibours and debris, and looks awful. Calvert does not want to take any responsibilty to fix this problem. They only put a band-aid, and even that they did after long months of ignoring our calls. I can tell you that Calvert is the most unprofessional buiseness that I have ever dealt with. I'm not sure what to do. I have called Fairfax county again to investigate. We can't live like that. We paid a lot of money for this house, and it looks that we got a lemon.
