Jon of Reno NV (05/06/08) I strongly feel that I was treated unfairly by the Reno NV Centex Homes Sales Manager, Brad Brown. On January 11th, 2008 I purchased a Centex Home in Reno for 271,990.00. The sales representative, Sharon Davis, had me sign the contract without actually showing me the lot. I was under the impression that I was getting a standard lot like all the others on that street. A few months later I found out that the utilities companies placed a total of 5 various utility boxes right on my houses front yard. I got especially upset about these boxes because all other houses on that street ended up with no more than two.
My house was one of the more expensive houses on that street, yet I ended up being stuck with the most utility boxes in my already small front yard. This was clearly unfair and I asked Centex for some sort of compensation. Since no one explained to me before that that lot was going to have extra utility boxes, I felt I deserved either a price reduction on the house or some free upgrades. The sales manager, Brad Brown, ended up being very uncooperative and refused to give me any compensation. I happen to be a veteran of the United States Army and I feel was unfairly treated by the Centex Homes and Mr. Brown. I was planning on financing my house using my VA loan, but Mr. Browns attitude forced me to simply walk away from that house all together
I lost 450 that I put toward home upgrades and valuable time Charlie of Midlothian, VA February 10, 2008
Charlie of Midlothian VA (02/10/08) I had been looking at a home to purchase in the Hartely Village section of Charter Colony subdivision, located in Midlothian, VA. The home was a spec home (Addington floor plan) built by Centex, and was a very nice home on a cul-de-sac. The home was backed up next to a very busy interstate however (Rt. 288) and I was concerned that the house was priced too high and wouldn't resell easily if it become necesary for us to move. Centex had the home on the market for a while and came to the realization that the home was probably priced to high and; therefore, decided to drop the selling price of the home significantly. My realtor that I had been working with got wind of the price reduction and called me on 2/9/08 at approx. 11:30am. I told her that I was extremely interested and could meet her at 1:30pm, so she in turn called Melissa from Centex to share this information. Melissa shared with my realtor that the home was first come first serve, but that she wasn't available until 4:30 pm to meet and sign a contract. Come to find out that Melissa was indeed available earlier, and she wrote a contract on the home to another buyer at approx. 2pm.
My family and I missed out on a home we were interested in buying because the Centex sales agent did not want the ultimate buyer of the home to be represented by a real estate agent in my opinion. She purposely, and unethically, deceived us into thinking she would not be available until a later point in time so that she could sell the house to another buyer who was not represented by a realtor. She then tried to sell me a similar home of obviously lesser value for 80k more, knowing full well that I wanted the other home. I find this type of behavior by a money hungry home builder's agent to be deplorable and I would hope that Centex does not condone these type of under-handed ethics. Arlene of Jacksonville, FL November 7, 2006
Arlene of Jacksonville FL (11/07/06) I am writing to you because I along with the rest of many community members have been wronged by Centex Homes in Jacksonville. After waiting a year for our home to be built and moving from NJ, Centex decided to reveal information they willingly withheld from us. On our way to Jacksonville from NJ on August 3rd, 2006 at about 5:45 p.m., I received a call from Centex saying there was a road proposed that would directly impact our house and would possibly have to be torn down.
The next morning was our closing and they offered us to think about it over the weekend.
Unfortunately Centex deliberately put us in the situation that we had no way out and had to close on August 4th, 2006. They were fully aware that we had just sold our home (July 31,2006), our moving truck was on its way from NJ, our children were supposed to start school that day, and my husband works for a company that works from home and he could not ask for a month or two off until we found an apartment to live in. They claimed they had just received the 'proposed road information', but we have found out that they knew since 2004, when that information was made available to them.
A week after our closing they repeated the same deceptive practice of letting our neighbors know about the proposed road, the day before closing. Turns out they did that to various people after us and they repeated the same lie and told them the day before closing. I never knew that a big company like Centex could do this to people. Buying a home was important to all of us and we were all greatly deceived. We live in Cypress Trace, Single family homes. They want the city to help us, but they are not willing to fix their wrong. I have asked that our money be returned and we will gladly give them back the home, but they wash their hands of their mess and leave it up to the city.
They knew that if they revealed the information sooner than the day before closing, most people would not have purchased the properties. They waited for the most desperate hour for the families and then they wouldn't have much of a choice but to close. They planned this out very carefully. I am sure some of the people that backed out of closing, were the investors, which could back out easily. I hope no one has to go through this again.
We have not been able to enjoy the home we spent 415,000 to buy. They deceived us into the purchase. We can't even sell the home if the road does go up. I wish they had been honest when we would have chosen not to purchase the property. We uprooted our family to have our dream home and it has turned into a nightmare. I hope no one has to go through this again.
