Maronda Homes

Jacob of Marysville OH (11/04/08)
We have an HVAC air duct that POPS as you walk across the floor in a home that is only 4 months old. We requested that be fixed. They offered to fix it free and would do everything possible to ensure that it would be fixed; however, when they came out and banged on the metal and that was it. We were told that the correct fix would be to replace the metal with thermal pan, but this was refused for a jerry rig. The sound all, but went away for a couple weeks and is back again. We have requested that they fix this since the original repair was not adequate. We were told that they only do one repair if it fixes the problem or not.

The local supervisor stated that Maronda has had this problem in multiple other homes, and this is not the first time it has been complained about told us, yet they refuse to fix it.

This poor construction practice will cost us hundreds of dollars to get fixed properly. This will ultimately cause serious resale and value issues with this home. This will be our LAST home from Maronda.

We have a substantial amount of black mold growing in our garage. OUr house is only a few years old and we bought it new. We have had many problems and Maronda has done a very poor job of addressing them.

First I was suppose to move the 2nd week of December I got a call that the house has no power and we can't move until January, Mind you I had already given notice to the rental dept. that I was rooming, I had to pay a months rent in order to stay in the apt. a few more weeks until the house was ready, then the mightmare really began 6months after me and my family moved into our first home we had a 3 page front and back list of every thing wrong in the house. and still we have major issues and can't get anything resolved, even though we have structural warranties etc. that doesn't matter.

All the windows are suppose to be air tight they aren't , the wall are supposed to be insulated they aren't if you push on the wall the nails pop out. the ceilings all the plaster is falling off and nails are exposed, the kitchen ceilings you can see where the lines are from the dry wall, the floor are uneven in the master bathroom and squeeks, all the floor on the second floor squeek or you can feel and hear people walking and nothing can be done, the shower wall are suppose to be insulated with hardening foam but the walls move as well as the drains, the second floor loft the half wall moves even though the say its safe, the banister for the stairs shakes, the laundry room had a broken pipe in the wall that had to be reapired, and I had a dehumitifier in my house for 3-4 days, as well as having to have the padding replaced ,as well as uneven doors throuh out the house, I had outlet covers missing that my three year old would try to put thing in the holes, the screens are a joke a snake can slither through the sides, the A/C for the second floor doen't work unless you drop it below 73 degrees, imagine my electric bill, the Attic is not insulated properly, the walls are scratched, and or cracking and completely uneven from the floor to the ceiling, the mirrors are tarnished and I have to replace them, don't remove a towel bar because you'll see huge holes in the wall, they patched a hole in the wall in my daughters room and it had a very nasty patch job I think my grand daughter could've did a better job.

Lisa of Winter Haven, FL October 20, 2008

Lisa of Winter Haven FL (10/20/08)
Maronda took our deposit in April 2004 promising our new home would be ready by summer. They finished in April of 2006!Yes, 2 years later, and they would not give us our deposit back to look for another home, and had threatening overtones, so we waited. That was our first mistake. We had hoped that by taking so much time to build our home and community, we would have less problems, but we were wrong. On our final walk through, there were so many issues it was laughable.

We walked through with the builder and he placed a small piece of blue tape on every issue we had (many pieces are still there as of today 10/2008)We were bullied into signing the papers for our home later that day for fear of being sued (there words)and told not to worry becasue eveything was under warrantee and we were protected. Here's a brief list of issues as of day one: rug was placed down in pieces with the seems coming up, nails were left in rug and every member of my family was cut more than once, entire first floor laminate needed to be taken up and replaced because they pieced it together with scrap material and it didn't match up, every window but 1 leaked, the front door leaked, the soffits FELL OUT over our front door and dented in our front door, the ground was not level and when it rained, it came in my sliding door, I had hot water coming out of the cold labelled faucets and vice versa, HOT water flushing in my toilets, outlets that didn't work or blew out, kitchen countertop peeling off, center island not cut even and was caulked so poorly in was uneven and unbalanced, uneven walls and they never painted or finished the walls in our master bath and when you took a shower the steam made the walls begin to peel (was told they did not cover the dry wall...oops!)Missing every window pain that I paid extra for (did received them 18 months later), never receievd the 2 window screens that weren't present.,

A theif stole all of my shrubbery and landscaping so they decided to fill it in with what they called monkey grass I was the only home on the street that had no landscaping/shrubs (they felt this was ok),a thief stole my electrical box, so we had no electricity for a week,my irrigation was hooked up wrong and only worked in 1 zone so my lawn DIED and they said it wasn't their fault and would not replace it.Now lets discuss the Executive Community it was suppose to be gated and have lush grounds, well, they got through a loop hole in the system and the town signed off on the community before inspecting it and they never did what was on the plan that was filed, no 6 foot walls, NO IRRIGATION SYSTEM in common areas , NO GATE, and oh ya, NO LANDSCAPING AT ALL!! The community plan that is recorded with the town states a 6 foot wall and within every 18 feet there should have been a large shade tree, a small shade tree and 16 shrubs! We got 1 shade tree every 50 feet and they died with no irrigation! The streets flood because of improper drainage and when the builders owned the HOA, it went bankrupt, so we had bills in the thousands when they turned it over to us (which we had to take or face the fact that the city would shut off our lights which was in violation and we could be sued),as well as many businesses wouldn't deal with us because the builder had defaulted on their contracts with them.

We signed HOA contracts stating that there would be NO RENTALS all owner occupied ,that was a joke. There were more rental properties than owners and with the economy the way it has been, you can only imagine who those homes were rented to.We were told by Maronda to go ahead and sue, it won't do any good What a fabulous company. I say that if you buy a Maronda home after reading all the problems that the other homeowners have mentioned, you deserve what you get and believe me, Karma will take care of Maronda and all of those sad little people that work for them.

The consequences of our dealings with Maronda have been devastating. They chose not to honor any of their agreements with us after 2 and a half years of living there. We chose to leave, packed up and just left. If the house sells, it sells, if it doesn't (and it won't), so be it. My family has learned an expensive but very valuable lesson in all this.
