Allstate Used Bate-&-Switch Sales Tactics. In looking for auto insurance, I applied for an estimate to several companies via the internet. About seven companies responed. Allstate was the lowest at 129 for 6 mos. I applied giving my drivers license no. & SSN. Allstate found a violation that 4.9 yrs old and increased the policy to 210. I was cool with that.

The agent sent me an email with a formal write-up including the coverage, my SSN and State license number. I call and paid for the policy over the phone via my VISA card. Subsequently I canceled my existing policy. A few days later the agent call and said Allstate made a mistake and that the rate was now 390. I was unhappy because this was more than most all the other estimates I had received on the Web and more than my canceled policy. I ask the supervisor to call. No calls.

A few days later I called Malan, the owner of the franchise in the greater Washington DC area, whose accent sounded like she was from India. She apologized for the confusion, but now the rate was 439. She hid behind a policy clause that says the insurance company has 30 days to review and revised even after the policy is issued. The bate-and-switch technique was maddening. The rate had gone from 129 to 429. I cannot recommend Allstate or any company that uses Bate-&-Switch Sales Tactics (which are illegal).

Jeremy of Fort Benning, GA November 26, 2008

Jeremy of Fort Benning GA (11/26/08)
I am a soldier in the United States military. I cancelled my policy thorugh allsate in september after leaving for my active duty station in fort benning georgia. Because the address had not been changed on the policy ii never recieved information that the policy was still active. Money had been withdrawn from my account without my notification and the account was over drafted.

I reported that the withdrawl had been made and that the account had been over drafted. The representative that i had spoken with said that the would need a copy of the bank ststement and the account number to verify that the transaction had been made. I faxed the information to allstate twice and have since then not recieved a letter or phone call form anyone. That was about three weeks ago.

I spoke with one representative recently and was told that the account still had not been closed. The cancellation shold have been processed in september. It is now november and i came into contact with all state in regards to the withdrawl in october. I requested that i speak to the manage with yet another representative. I was told that i would be reimbursed for the transaction and that the overdraft charge would be taken care of. Again that was two weeks ago.

I have not recieved a phone call or letter. I changed my address when i came into contact with them at the beginnig of october. My second complaint iis that when coming home form AIT i had an 800 withdrawl made from my account. Again no letter no phone call. I was a reserve soldier at the time and was home for about two month befor going active duty. The withdrawl was for rentes insurance that i was told was to be included in the policy not a separate account. All state agreed that i did not autorize the withdrawl. Not the problem. The problem was when 5 weeks later i still had not recieved reimbursment.

At that point i was behind on bill my checking account was overdrafted by almost 800 from overdraft fees. The account went negative by about 500 when the with drawl was made. The accumulated 300 were from daily over draft fees through the bank.

Rachael of Shasta Lake, CA November 25, 2008

Rachael of Shasta Lake CA (11/25/08)
I bought a 05 Honda Accord on Wed 11/12/08 and on friday 11/14/08 called Allstate in the morning to make sure the car was on the policy. Friday 11/14/08 around 11pm I hit a water faucet and damaged my passanger side door and fender. First thing Saturday morning 11/15/08 I called allstate to put in my claim..they were able to tell me what my deductable was which is 250.00 and made me an appointment to go into an allstate office to inspect my damages on Monday 11/17/08.

On monday morning at 9am i went into the office..the appraiser inspected my vehicle, filed the paperwork, and handed me a check for the damage. I went to the body shop to make me an appointment to have my car fixed and i received a call from the allstate office that gave me a check and they informed me that my car was not on the policy and i had to return my check back to them. When I brought them the check I asked them to pull my policy up on the computer and show me proof the car was not on the policy. When they pulled it up it showed that my 05 Honda Accord was on the policy. The appraiser informed me that it was a mix up between the systems on the computer that later on that day it would be fixed and i would be able to get my check.

Later that day I called allstate to make sure it had been fixed and they told me that it wasn't fixed. I talked to several allstate agents from there 800 number between monday 11/17/08 and friday 11/21/08. These agents kept giving me different information and kept repeating we will update the computer and mail you a check Then on friday night 11/21/08 I called again around 8pm to see if it had been updated yet. I talked to a female agent who told me that it was finally updated but they were going to close my claim and reopen a new claim and transfer the info. from the old claim to the new claim but that I needed to fax them proof that I bought the vehicle because they were unsure whether or not I was telling the truth.

On saturday 11/22/08 I faxed allstate the paperwork I received from the dealership at 2:08pm. I then waited a couple of hours and called the 800 number back. The person I talked to then told me that it would take 24 hours for them to get the fax uploaded to call back monday morning 11/24/08 and it should have gone through. I called monday morning and talked to an agent who told me that it was not uploaded that it normally takes 3-5 business days but that I could call back later. Around 9pm I called allstate back and the agent told me that it wouldnt post until probably tuesday.

I asked to speak with a manager. the manager got on the phone and I told him what was going on. He reviewed my claim. and told me that the claims were closed but unsure what the reason was. He informed me that there shouldnt have been any reason why they took back the check. He also told me that the dealership called the day i bought the car and the car was put on the insurance by the dealership that there should have been no reason for this MIX UP. He said he was going to look into it some more and call me back. When he called me back he stated that the information showed that i didn't call them to make sure the car was on the policy until sat. morning 11/15/08 and I didnt put my claim in until 11/17/08 which was untrue seeing how i had an appointment on the 17th with the allstate appraiser. which you have to have the claim done before hand and make an appointment! Now there telling me to call back tuesday 11/26/08 and see if it has gone through.

stress, fustration, anger and not being able to open my car door

Susan of Lithonia, GA November 23, 2008

Susan of Lithonia GA (11/23/08)
On Oct. 23, 2008, as I was pulling into a parking space at my apartment complex, CF struck my car on the rear bumper/passenger side. We exchange info and waited for a police officer. Later I called my insurance co. (Progressive) and also called Ms. F's insurance co. (Allstate). The next day I got in touch with Chris, an Allstate adjuster. I gave him my statement and he said that he was waiting on Ms. F's statement. Later that day a witness to the accident approached me and said that she would call Allstate and give them a statement.

From Oct. 23rd to Nov. 20th I got the run around. First [Chris] was waiting for Ms. F's statement, then my witness' statement, then he was waiting to review the claim, then the computer crashed. On Oct. 21st I called again and got [Chris]'s voicemail. He finally called back later that day and said that Allstate will not be accepting my claim because Ms. Courtney said that I was backing out of my parking space when she hit me.

So I questioned [Chris] about Ms. C's statement to Allstate and her statement to the police officer which is stated on the police report. [He] ignored my question. He said that my witness' statement would not be considered, it was after the fact. So I got frustrated with him and hung up on him because I wasn't getting anywhere. It seems as though he was reading from a script the whole time, going thru the motions and that he was never going to honor my claim.

Prior to his decision, I spoke to Kelly, his supervisor because he was dragging his feet. [Kelly] could care less about my claim. She said that I had minor scratches on my bumper and that I should file my claim with my insurance company. I didn't cause this accident and I want this problem resolved with Allstate.

Doctor's visit the next day for minor whiplash. Prescibe meds for muscle spasms.

Jacqueline of Sylmar, CA November 20, 2008

Jacqueline of Sylmar CA (11/20/08)
I was involved in a car accident on Sept. 26, 2008 in which an individual was waiting to make a left turn at a major intersection. The light was green, i had the right of way. he didn't see my car bhind another one and assumed that the truck in front of me was the last car, he made a left, i tried to stop and we collided. As i see it, he was 100% at fault. The man driving the car didn't own the car, it belonged to another person, whose insurance was allstate.

That same day, i called and made a claim with my insurance company, my company contacted the owner and the driver and got a statement. I personally had to call allstate to give them my statement, they did not call me. i've followed up with allstate on numerous occasions to know what the status of the case is. The person in charge of my case had not been able to get a statement from the driver as of three weeks ago approximately a month after the accident. although, she agreed from the statement i gave her, that their client was at fault.

My car is a total loss and obviously undrivable. I lost jobs because i didn't have a car to drive. I had to pay for my own rental car. I chose the most economic car, which still ran up a bill of about 800 dollars, until i finally came to the conclusion that buying a car would be a more economic option at this point. so i returned the rental, and purchased a new car. and still i haven't heard anything from allstate. this case has caused me grief, stress, has made me loose work. I want this to be done and over with, this seems like a ridiculous amount of time to settle a claim. for such a big company this seems very unprofessional. i'm glad i don't have allstate, i wouldn't switch to them after this.

Loss of work, therefore lost wages. My car was a total loss. A rental car running up a bill of 800 dollars. i've had to buy my own car without this case having been settled.
