Karen of Mastic, NY October 6, 2009

On 8/17/09, I was sitting at the stop light behind another vehicle, when a woman insured by Lincoln General (North East Alliance) rear ended my car. I called the police who wrote up a field report. On 8/27 I called Lincoln General (who has a mulitude of phone numbers many of which do not work and the ones that do are automated and loop over and over without going to someone). Finally, I got someone to talk to 4 days later. She said their insured did not report the accident to them, however, they would try to contact her and send me some forms to complete.

A week later they sent me some forms and an adjuster contacted me to look at the damage to the car. I completed the forms and returned them and the adjuster looked at the car and told me to take it to the auto body shop, have them look at it and if more damage was under the bumper to have them contact him to come out and look again. I did and okayed the car to be fixed. I contacted Lincoln General/Northeast Alliance to ask when I would get reimbursed for the repairs.

The customer service agent promptly told me that their insured still had not reported the accident to them (now 45 days later) and they did not authorize me to fix the car! They said they were sending her mail and telephone calls and trying to reach her agent, but got no response from either. I reminded them I have a police report showing that the damage was done so there is no hoax or fraud involved. I only want to get reimbursed for the damage done by their insured to my vehicle.

I asked what if she never reports the accident. They told me that if she does not report the accident to them, I may never get paid! They said she can take up to 90 days or even more and that she could be 'away' and not gotten the time to report the accident. I keep calling Lincoln General (Northeast Alliance) and they keep telling me the same thing that they are waiting for their insured to call them.

I had to pay the body shop out of pocket for the repair they did to my vehicle in order to get it back from the shop before they started adding on storage charges. It cost me $551. Since this whole thing started, I have spent over 8 hours on the phone with Lincoln General (Northeast Alliance). I have lost time away from my job. I also feel very victimized. It's become a point so sore that I can't even think about it without getting angry and emotional. Is there something in the law that makes this action illegal for not only the insurance company but their insured?

I made a claim on my car because someone tried to break in and slashed my top. I have full coverage and figured it would be no problem. My insurance company or Dawn told me if the estimate came back less than $2500.00 they would not have to send out their own appraiser the appraisal came back at about $2400.00. I thought hey thats good this won't take long then. Except at this point Dawn disappears for over about 2 weeks (I assume on vacation for the 4th of july which I got some confirmation of in a call with one of her coworkers) not returning any of the multiple messages the autobody shop and I had left for her.

When she finally did get back to me after the 4th of july weekend all of the sudden the had to send out their own appraiser anyway.after the couple of more days when they get back to me the want me to pay 60% of the repairs on top of my $500 deductable for betterment because my top isn't new anymore. My car is a 2002 that means in 6 years my top has lost 60% of it's value thats 10% a year so I guess in 10 years the top would have just fallen of the car and been worthless(there is nothing wrong with the top except for maybe some dirt and the two new slashes). After arguing with them and refusing to pay that much I finally got them to drop that amount to 20%.

After the company's poor handling of my claim I had been with out my car for over a month exactly for what was a three day repair. I had rental car coverage but it only covers 30 dollars a day for 30 days. Try getting a rental car w/ damage waiver(needed in SF) for 30 dollars a day. At this point I was excited to get my car back even though It had cost me ($500 Deductable + $400 20% of repairs + $500 Extra rental car costs) $1400. Except they didn't repair all of the damage there was still a huge scratch down the back of they car that the attempted burgler left that I had pointed out to the body shop and told Dawn about over the phone. So after talking to Dawn a few days later, because getting her to call me back is like pulling teeth so I have to actually get her to answer her phone, and she sends out another appraiser. Another few of days go by after the appraiser has been out to do an appraisal. After I get a hold of Dawn again she says everything is good a check sent to the shop where I took my car before and just to drop my car of at my convenience. I was too busy that day to drop off my car so I waited till the next afternoon when I had time.

I got to the shop and they were supprised to see me, they had heard nothing from Dawn and had not done there own estimate so they tried to get a hold of dawn w/ no results. I left and called Dawn got her to answer and asked about rental car since it was their fault the original repairs took so long. She said she would try to get it paid for since she felt bad. I went to Enterprise because she told me they deal with them directly and I might not have to get reimbursed. They managed to get me a car in the 30 dollar a day price range. After about a week the check showed up for the repairs and even though the amount was less than the autobody shops estimate they decided to do the repair for that price, because it had been such a hassle for me, and Dawn would not return the body shops calls. So this fiasco took another 2 weeks so I have a $450 dollar rental bill that I think is going to be taken care of by my insurance Dawn tells me they won't pay because I told her after I got the estimate from the shop that it was only a 2 to 3 day repair and she needs to find out why it took longer. The only reason it turned into a 2 week repair is again because of Dawns poor handling of my claim. Since this I have left several messages for her w/ no return calls. When I do get through she just try's to give me the run around to get me off the phone and then avoids my calls again.

My husband and I changed our motorcycle insurance from Lincoln General to Progressive because Lincoln would double bill us. I stopped paying then when I got Progressive for us. They sent us a cancellation threat letter which was fine since we are no longer with them, but yesterday we received a letter from demanding 6.52 for no reason; not to reinstate insurance or anything else. Not only did they not give a reason, but the letter said it would reflect on my husband's credit if it wasn't paid. This company is very crooked and needs to be stopped. Our motorcycle insurance broker gave us Progressive because Lincoln has been so crummy to his customers. He won't do business with Lincoln General anymore either.
