Nationwide Cancels 39,000 More Homeowner Policies

Cherye of Sweetwater, TN June 29, 2009

My vehicle was hit by a Nationwide Insurer. The car was fixed, a rental car was provided but when it came to diminished value, they gave me only 1500.00. My vehicle was in MINT condition. If I was given the choice of a wrecked vehicle or a mint condition vehicle, I would pay more for the mint condition one. It is on CarFax as a damaged.

James of Covington, KY June 14, 2009

In late July, 2008, an automobile forced another automobile into my parked truck, which I was away from at the time. My car was driveable at the time but when I started it up, the ABS light came on. I did not know what an ABS light was until the body shop explained it to me. The body shop repaired everything except the ABS sensor, which they were not equipped to do.

They told me to take it to my dealership to have it repaired. I took it to the dealership and they fixed it, but neglected to tell me that the accident was not the cause of its damage. The right front tire where the sensor is located was heavily damaged,so I don't know how they arrived at their conclusion which I did not find out about until May, 2009. After repeated calls to my agent at Nationwide, he kept giving me the run-around for the next nine months. In fact, he wanted me to do the leg work for him. Finally, on May 13, 2008 I get a legal recovery letter from Nationwide stating that I would not receive money for having the sensor repaired, no money for out of pocket expenses for car rental, and no money in getting my deductible back. I have been with Nationwide Insurance and the agent for twenty-five years, in which I have had very, very, few claims on the two policies I had with Nationwide,--auto and homeowners.

I paid all my policies on time and usually at six months to a year at a time. This agent was too lazy to undertake the leg work to get pictures of the accident taken when the accident occurred, or to visit the dealership where the sensor was fixed. In fact, the agent put me off when I told him that I needed more insurance to cover the house since he had not done an appraisal in the past twenty-five years!

Do not believe for one second that Nationwide is on your side!!! Their commercials are absolute disgusting and untruthful. I was with Nationwide for twenty-five years and was treated like this. How do they treat customers with less time with them? Most assuredly, not too well! Do not buy insurance from Nationwide!

I have been a loyal customer of nationwide ins.20 plus years without a claim of any kind.. My insurance lapsed due to an insight, I paid it ASAP , when it was brought to my attention, then without any warning nationwide said since my insurance lapsed I lose all my benfits.. This means my policy was raised about 500.00 dollars.. I spoke to a Mr. M, explained the whole story to him, he sent me a letter basically detailing what I said here.. But did say that my insurance would be the new price, after many phone calls to him, which he did not answer.. I,m now trying this method to be heard..

Kimberly of Coatesville, PA May 21, 2009

I had a car accident hitting a deer in November of 2007. I (stupidly) took my car to a "blue ribbon" shop which means the work is guarenteed for the life of the car. When I got the car back about a month later the paint began to chip off the front. I called Nationwide and they simply said contact the shop. I never got a chance to do this and in December of 2008 I slid on ice and hit a parked car. It did lots of damage to the front of my car.

I took it to another auto body shop and they called me to let me know there was A LOT of work that wasn't fully completed during the previous accident and he was able to tell that there was another accident and that things weren't done. The main thing he was concerned about is that they glued my radiator together and he wasn't even comfortable re-gluing it.

So I called Nationwide (this is guarenteed work and there is no reason why they should have just glued it!) and if this new shop reglues it, it will no longer be under this life-time guarentee. I get the run around. The guy I called is telling me, I wasn't the one who looked at your car, and how do we know it was during this other accident that is was glued. I told him, I don't really have people going around gluing my car! UNREAL.

I plan to continue this rampage as far as I can. SO basically DO NOT do BLUE RIBBONS. And forget Nationwide - with their accident forgiveness. INSURANCE COMPANIES - we are paying you for accidents, not for nothing.

Miss of Savannah, GA April 27, 2009

My car was stolen 12/5/08.I did everything I reported it.And the adjuster Carolas Irizzary send me papers to sign power of attorney.I did he even had me to go to police headquarters and sign release paper for them to pick up the car. They said they found the car I sign release papers at the police headquarters, did the investigator send me a letter to bring couples of my bank accounts and w2 forms from the year of 2007 2008.And current income papers and my phone records.I couldnot bring anyone with me,the investigastor came out to myhome 12/23/08.Stated they got a call on the tip line I had my car stolen and I paid to have it stolen. And that I was own ssi I donot receive ssi I donot work but I'am a single mother of two. What I receive is none of his business.

I took the release papers to a lawyer to look at that I sign and he said that was not my car nationwide said they found.Because there are no vin numbers on release papers. They are a crooked insurance company, they do not want to pay for my car.The investigator do not need to see my bank statements etc..I could not afford a lawyer to handle this the one that look at the release papers told me not to go.It's a lineholder on the car and the company will adventually sue nationwide. They are all on T.V.with that slogan Nationwide on your side they are not on anybody's side but their own.Everyone needs to be aware of them they are crooked.

Andi of Raleigh, NC April 17, 2009

Andi of Raleigh NC (04/17/09)
April 1 2009 I was rear ended by a Nationwide policy holder. I went to the ER that night to be checked out. I had a sprained neck and back. I went to my Primary doctor the following week because my arm was stil hurting and she sent me to see and Orthopedic Doc. Im being sent to Physical Therapy for exercises for whiplash so that my arm will stop hurting and I can use it for more than a few minutes at a time without it going numb. My truck was visiually inspected by a Nationwide repair shop and the damage assesed at just over 500.00 The other car was assesed at around 1000.00. Nationwide sent me a check for the repair of the bumper, but like I said, it was never hoisted up to check for frame damage.

Today I get a call from Pam at Nationwide that they will not cover the Physical Therapy, and most likely not any primary doctor visits either. What a crock. Her insured wasnt paying attention. I was stopped at a light. A couple days after the accident she offered me 500.00 and then up to 2500.00 for medical expenses and when I said no, her whole attitude toward me has changed and she has been quite rude. I hate even answering the phone. Everyone says get a lawyer. I dont want to have to go that route if I dont have to. All I want Nationwide to do is pay the medical bills. And they arent even excessive. I will NEVER ever carry Nationwide insurance.

Stress of the phone ringing. I feel like I am being bullied by Nationwide and that I will be responsible for these medical bills when Nationwide's insured wasnt paying attention.

Rodney of Avon, OH April 8, 2009

Rodney of Avon OH (04/08/09)
I have a complaint against Nationwide Insurance, Columbia Station, Ohio 44028. My truck was totaled on 1-30-09 at the fault of their insured. I dispute the Loss Vehicle Valuation provided by CCC for Nationwide. The valuation given to me does not correctly list the model or options of the loss vehicle. Comparable vehicles listed in the valuation do not match the loss vehicle in year, make, model or mileage. This valuation was sent to me after I questioned the first offer given by Nationwide over the phone. While the phone offer was being made, I asked if their valuation included the off road package? I was told that Nationwide had all the correct information needed for the valuation.

After reviewing the Valuation, I noticed that some of the vehicle information looked as if it were added in after the fact. Some options listed do not follow the format on the form on which they are presented. I repeatedly requested a new Vehicle Valuation with no answer. After two weeks with no contact from Nationwide, I called the adjuster in charge of my claim. I asked again for a new valuation. The adjuster told me, no. He stated that he could not do anything as these decisions are made by his manager. I asked for his manager's phone number, and he replied that he WAS the manager and there was nothing more to discuss.

With persistence I finally got his managers phone number. I called his manager and requested a new vehicle valuation. His response was that the valuation stands as is, and if he allowed another valuation it would certainly show more prior damage then listed on the current valuation reducing my claim. This was taken as a threat. The Vehicle Valuation does not include the snow plow which was totaled with the loss vehicle. I asked Nationwide about the snow plow and the adjuster handling my claim had now idea the loss vehicle had a plow attached to it. When I asked how am I going to be compensated for the damaged snow plow? The adjuster suggested I take the settlement and replace the snow plow then Nationwide would reimburse me for the snow plow.

This statement was made in Bad Faith as no insurance company would release more money once the loss vehicle settlement is signed. I asked Nationwide to include the snow plow in the new valuation. Nationwide's response was, there will be no new valuation and all they would offer for the snow plow was a depreciated value based on the original cost of the plow. I then asked, why I would not be given fair market value for the damaged snow plow? Nationwide's response was, I'm not entitled to fair market value only the depreciated value. Another statement made in Bad Faith. Nationwide refused to discuss lost wages, rental fees and lost items in truck
