A few of the more recent complaints ... Lorraine of North Cape May, NJ August 16, 2009 I have had my own auto ins. for over 30 years with no lapse in coverage. My never licensed sons are covered as passengers for 3 years and they are making my oldest son progressive is making my oldest son cover all of us. I do not think that anyone can make you be double insured. My son who has to cover us has no job at the present time and it has been stressful hearing different policy and NJ laws from Progressive and still no help. I LOVE Geico Charles of Tulsa, OK August 12, 2009 Being new to the area, and having to purchase an auto more quickly than anticipated, I found a vehicle I wanted on a Saturday evening at a prominent Chevrolet dealer. Wanting to secure local insurance, and the manager wanting to conclude the transaction. rather than waiting until Monday - he called a local agent who came and arranged coverage there. I only wanted the basic liability coverage, along with 500 deductible for comprehensive and collision. I obtained coverage - Progressive - with the local agent who came to the dealership. I made initial payment and completed forms for monthly ACH withdrawal from my checking account. (I only use this payment method for insurance, solely because I don't wish to risk any lapse if traveling unexpectedly, something gets lost in the mail, etc.) I had to travel a lot, and was otherwise quite busy, so I simply paid for 42 months, as each 6-month renewal occurred. I had always felt Progressive to be reliable and a class company, and I had no traffic violations or accidents during this period, and I paid promptly the monthly amount, which averaged 152.00+ for the 3-1/2 years. When renewal papers for period beginning 15 months ago were higher even than previous amount, on impulse one day I drove into a State Farm agent's free-standing office's parking lot. In about 5 minutes, I had gotten a quote for precisely the same coverage for under 66.00 per month (a cost less than half - significantly less - of Progressive's). I don't blame anyone else for my own stupidity in not taking action sooner, and I immediately obtained coverage with State Farm and dropped Progressive. I spent more than 3,600 MORE THAN State Farm's rate for identical coverage with Progressive during my period with them. In checking with Progressive home office and regional manager in Texas, got nothing but "yada yada" about rates among providers varying, and the guy in Texas telling me they hated losing a customer. I now place Progressive as being just below the level of loan sharks (at least the latter tell tyou their fees and terms up front). I urge anybody considering Progressive to go elsewhere and to advise friends and family to do likewise. (p.s. I recently got my second renewal from State Farm; after both 6-month periods, rate becam lower in the next, due to "good driving." My driving was precisely same with Progressive, but got increases from them.) Lai of Virginia Beach, VA August 6, 2009 3 years ago, my sister and i bought insurance together for the first time. we bought liability insurance together at progressive. we split the payment. then one year later my sister got in a car accident. we realize that we need full coverage for our car insurance so my sister bought difference car and she called progressive for full coverage for 2 cars. two year later i got into car accidently. i call progressive to get my car fix. but there is one problem that i would never believe. they say that my car is not cover and sister car is cover. i told them that about my sister asked for full coverage for two cars. they said that if they find the tape that say my sister did ask for full coverage then they will fix my car. and they say that it will take them few days to do so. 3 weeks later i keep on calling them. they said that they have trouble finding the tape. and they also said that they dont take responsible for it. i just busted out and cry, because i was really upset with them. i am a student and i save money to pay for car insurance and i thought that i am safe. the next thing i realize that my car is not cover. their mistake make me suffer. i didnt have a car for a month. Amy of Gainesville, VA July 23, 2009 In May of 2005 a vehicle changed lanes in front of me leaving me without time to swerve or avoid them. The drive was at fault and wanted nothing to do with the police. I did manage to swap insurance info and contact info with this lady who then decided to leave before the police, who had been called, arrived. This was less than a fender bender, only minor paint scrapes on both cars. Her vehicle showed even less damage than mine. I did proceed with reporting the incident to Progressive and declined a claim as the damage would have been less than my deductible anyhow and I did not see fit to pursue the other lady's insurance for such a minor scratch. A representative from Progressive did come out, take photos and said that since it sounded like it was the other person's fault he would like to keep their info on file. He also informed me that should the other person try to make a claim that I was at fault they would be in contact with me. My premium did go up subsequently but Progressive's reasoning behind the rise in premium was for other reasons and they did not at any point between 2005 and now inform me that my premium increase had to do with the fact that indeed the other driver contacted Progressive to file a claim against me being at fault. They paid out 1,711 to this person for a scratch that could have been buffed out. They did this without informing me or giving me the chance to defend the claims against me. Is not the job of an insurance company to look out for those it insures? I only just now found out because I tried to switch to another insurance company who informed me the claim is in my history. I have been through all my paper work from Progressive and no where does it show this claim in subsequent renewals. They hid this from me by stating other reasons for premium increases. Quotes I have received from other companies are hundreds of dollars less if this incident had not been in my claims history. I feel I have been paying an unnecessarily high premium as a result of Progressive hiding this info from me (I can't find it ANYWHERE in my paperwork or in the account info available to me) and as a result of Progressive failing to inform me the claim had been made at the time. All other things equal, and if I receive a quote from Progressive without that claim, I would be saving 100's of dollars a year. Trent of Tenino, WA July 23, 2009 Was in two incidents on 7/18/09, during first incident I learned that my final payment to my premium was not paid. I paid it, traveled down the road and a second incident happened. Progressive will not or is not giving me insurance and will not handle my claim except to investigate. I traveled around for the entire weekend into monday 7/20/09 without insurance thank God nothing happend. Dan of Ukiah, CA July 19, 2009 I have been in an accident. I am fine, but my car was rear-ended by a non-insured driver. My car is a 1991 Ford Mustang 5.0 convertible, it has very low miles (53K). I have had this car for over 17 years, and it's like a child to me, it had been in storage for 6-7 years, which explains the low miles and the good condition. The car had 4300 damage in the accident, I had gotten several official estimates. The car is not in perfect condition, but I would consider it in Good condition for the age of the vehicle. I have over the last few years been restoring it in my spare time. I bought replacement (original Ford parts) for the bumper, fenders, seats, carpet. The vinyl top has been replaced, the transmission rebuilt. It had been maintenanced regularly. There was some additional trim work to be completed, and then all it needed was painted. The car then would be in near excellent condition. My issue is that progressive insurance will only pay me 2400 and they keep my car, or pay me 1800 and I can keep my car. I only want my car fixed. they say the value of the car is less than the repair cost. But they have not shown me their research where I can get the exact same condition car for 2400. Or I could take their money and buy one, which in reality, I would be afraid to do, as I know the history and car I have given my own car. I don't want to have my car replaced with someone elses problem car. David of Dallas, GA July 17, 2009 I was in a car accident in september 22 2007 i was rear ended by another driver who was insured by allstate.i got all the information reported it to my insurance company.allstate addmitted to fault and said they will fix my car but my insurance company said no they will fix my car and have allstate reimburse them.well my insurance company is progressive and they told me i would have to get my car fixed at their perferred shop or i would be responsible for getting my car to the shop and for parts that didnt match with their prices also i would have to pay for a rental car if the shop took a while to repair. well progressive and their perferred shop committed fraud lieing about my fram not being bent and stateing that my parts were new.the adjuster whos name is bruce allowed the shop to fix arround the bent fram so i wouldnt be able to tell.i complained so many times about how the car was performing to only be told that i need some new tires.after getting new tires and those wearing from the inside out unevenly i knew i had a major problem so i complained over and over only for progressive to try and lead me back to one of their perferred shops but i refused and threaten to get a shop of my choice to check the car out so finnally they said i could take it to a shop of my choice but i will have to pay for certain work.i didnt agree to that but the shop did discover that the fram is bent and that the work was not done right. progressive knew the car should have been total but they tried to cut corners to cut cost only to make a profit and hide the problem from me.i have proof of what they did and they still are giving me the run around.i told the bank about what has happen but they will not help.it has taken me this long to prove what progressive and their perferred shop did to only have put me in the hole as far as the car along with my safty. Thank You Kandi of Mesa, AZ July 16, 2009 My vehicle was struck by Progressive's client going the wrong way in a one way zone. That driver is 100% at fault! The damage is cosmetic but Progressive has seen fit to call my vehicle a total loss, even though I still drive it every day. I desperately need this vehicle, I am unemployed and cannot afford to replace it, but because it is being called a total loss, I will be forced to accept a salvage title, and my registration will be revoked, making my vehicle useless. How am I supposed to find employment without a reliable vehicle? They are offering less than 600.00, in reality how do I replace a vehicle for that money? Marissa of somewhere, FL July 10, 2009 When I moved to Florida two years ago I was forced to change insurance companies. I got a bunch of quotes and did a lot of research (obviously not enough) and choose Progressive. BIG MISTAKE!!!!!! I am now fighting two battles - one to get my car fixed properly and the second fighting their determination of fault. November 2008 I was on the highway was involved a wreck. The police DID NOT side anyone so noone got a ticket. Well Progressive decided to fault me and paid for all parties involved to get their car fixed. I called them as soon as I found out what they had decided to find out why. Christa the fault determination adjuster said that she did not make the decision but that her manager did. I told her to have her call me then. NEVER got a phone call!!!!! I also asked Christa if they had recieved the police report and to which she replied "No, but I did talk to the officer that wrote the report." How are you going to make a determination of vault with NO police report?????? I don't think she even called the officer. It is now July 2009 and I just now found out why they determined me at fault. (I had to call the CEO of the company to get to this point) I found out they determined me at fault because there was black paint on the back of the other car involved. The police report clearly says that the damage on the back of that car was from running over a road sign when he went off the road! So tell me again how it is my fault. I have proved that their determination of vault is faulty and they still want to argue about it. I guess the CEO will be getting another phone call. Now getting the car fixed is a whole other matter. I have to take the car back to the shop for the 4th time. You heard me right FOURTH! If you ever get a wreck with a Progressive policy holder DO NOT let one of their shops fix it. They offer a lifetime warranty on the work and parts they put on your car but I am telling you now they don't pay you for all of the inconvenience they will cause you! I took the car to their shop in Orlando FL and it was there for over a week. When they gave it back to me the paint was bubbled the rims were peeling from where they 'reconditioned' them, the body kit was not put on properly, and they didn't put the weather stripping back on the door properly! HELLO did they really think I was going to take the car in that condition? Well I left it for them to fix the problems and they called me back two hours later saying that the car was ready. NOT!!!! I was going out of town the next week so they made me take the car and return the rental and schedule a time to bring it back when I got back in town. I was so mad. My car sat in Orlando while I went out of town since it was not fixed right. I took it back to a shop in Sarasota (since the work there was done so poorly) and they had it for another week. They glued the ripped body kit gasket back together and put it back on the car, 'reconditioned' the rims again, said that the rattle in the roof was not their problem and actually fixed the paint job. Within two weeks the rims started peeling again and once again the car went back to the shop. Where they had to buy an entire new front bumper cover and front body kit and new rims. Well now there is a problem with the alignment, the tire pressure sensors, and now the paint on the door has become a problem. Once AGAIN I had to call the CEO to get anything done. The car is going to Toyota on Tuesday to have everything fixed the correct way!!!!!! If this is not proof enough that Progressive is the WORST insurance company I don't know what will convince you!!!! scott of kill devil hills, NC July 10, 2009 Due to the fact that i never got emails as I was scheduled to my bill was constantly laped. Causing my registration to get suspended. On the last time this happened I put my policy back in effect and made a claim for a windshield which had been cracked for several months. I said i "noticed," the crack during a time the policy was inactive. Even when i said it didnt happen when the policy was inactive and had been a member since 2005 they denied my claim. Its just another example of the problem with today insurance practices.
