Barry of Pfafftown NC (09/23/08) My wife lost the dimond out of her weding ring so we turned it in on our homeowners insurance. Luckly she had the ring appraised about a couple of years ago and it appraised for 4000.00 dollars.
We sent the appraisel to the insurance company and they said they would only allow 1500.00 and 500 of it is our dedutable. This cant be right they pulled the same game several years ago when our house was hit by lighting. I am determond not to let them do it to us again. What can we do?
Johnah of Cheraw, SC September 19, 2008
Johnah of Cheraw SC (09/19/08) There was a water leak in our Kitchen an adjuster was sent out. They hired a contractor that does not to my knowledge have the credentials to proform a water extraction. This claim was filed on Sept. 4th there still has not been a resolution when I call and ask for information regarding claim no one has any information. Moisture readings. Extent of damage when our kitchen will be restored. Why a certified company was not called emergency service bill. The kitchen is still a mess. I have two small children.
I have photos and this has not been resolved so there is not a total cost at this point. Philip of Boynton Beach, FL September 17, 2008
Philip of Boynton Beach FL (09/17/08) I reported a roof leak on July 23, 2008 and damage caused by the same. A representative was sent by State Farm and the agent Kevin Ragsdale, looked at the roof from the ground (never went on the roof) and told my wife it was a wear a tear problem and the insurance company would not pay. I contacted Elizabeth the claims representative who sent another representative Kevin Jasmine who did go on the roof for approximately 5 minutes, came down and informed me that the leak was a wear and tear problem.
Niether of the reps went into the attic or checked anything on the roof. All they did was give a visual inspection. I had three roofers come for an estimate and was given prices anywhere from 21,000 to 38,000. All roofers said the damage was not casued by wear and tear but by water accumulation casued by winds and rain which caused the leak. In addition during hurricaine Wilma three years ago, I had a pool sceen room and large tree branches land on the roof at which time the State Farm representative said we would not be covered.
I believe that State Farm is committing a RICO Racketeer Corrupt Organization Act violation by representatives conspiring not to pay for the replacement of the roof and collect the 6,000 annual premium payment I make. I understand that State Farm has been denied huge increases by the Florida government but for them to deny legitimate claims is a crime.
I will now be forced to pay for the roof to be replaced as well as the interior damage as State Farm has authorized me 8,000 when estimates to repair the interior damage are closer to 18,000. By the way, damage continues as I try and arrange a loan for the repairs. Until I get the roof replaced, i will be unable to change insurance companies. Any help is appreciated. Cara of Houma, LA September 14, 2008
Cara of Houma LA (09/14/08) We just went through Hurricane Gustav and then Ike. I called my agent to see if they reimburse for evacuation costs and loss of food items. She informed me that State Farm does and that I can file a claim. She was very helpful and I appreciated the information.
Well...when the adjusters FINALLY did call me I got the rudest person I think I've dealt with in a very long time! She basically laughed off the fact that I was making a claim. I have never made a claim before so I was unsure of the procedure. At which point...she offered no help and just started grilling away! I answered every question she asked...every question was welcomed with a scoff at my expense....questioning everything I said!
Basically, she said I was lying about the evacuation order...which was mandatory and I should have waited to leave so that I could sit in traffic with my one year old daughter. Also, that I should have returned home as soon as the storm was over to no power...no food...no water, etc. She thought it was absurd that I would stay away until we had power and it was safe to return. I was in tears by the time we hung up!
I am currently looking for another insurance company. State Farm needs to change their slogan...because unlike a good neighbor...they are anything but there!
L. of Green Cove Springs, FL September 11, 2008
L. of Green Cove Springs FL (09/11/08) Our 1990 mobile home was damaged by Hurricane Charley and Frances in 2004. Parts of the roof were torn off and the ensuing rain caused water damage. Also, we had no power for a week, so all our food perished.
Adjusters from Texas came to check the damage and decided that with depreciation that they only owed us 29.00 plus 200.00 for our loss of food. We finally had to repair the roof ourselves. With what we had paid in premiums for over 10 years, we could've had several new roofs. Debra of Thibodaux, LA September 11, 2008
