AOL has been Double sometimes Tripling our monthly charges. If we change our Credit Card number they find the new one. I have called on Several Occasions to try and resolve this and you can not get an answer or anyone to help you. Each time you call you think it is finally taken care of and then no changes are made. I have called at least 6 times over the past two plus years to try and get credited for the past charges but no one seems to have authority to do that. I can never get a Supervisor or Manager on the phone, I am told that they are always busy. We would like to Cancel AOL all together and go to a different Browser but my husband is worried that we will never get our money back.

AOL owes us a Credit of over $2,500.00. This is a business visa that is literally draining us. We have other business to conduct on this card. I have written down some names and service numbers of the employees that I have spoken to but this does no good. Please help me with a contact person to file a Major Complaint with.

Hal of Orem UT (08/11/08)
I have been double billed by AOL for the past three to four years

Over $1000.00 in inappropriate charges

Leann of San Leon TX (07/14/08)
i am being charged for aol on both my phone bill and bank statement

i am having a great deal of trouble paying my regular bills and gas i dont need to pay twice for a internet bill this is very hard to resolve you talk to some one and you think it has been taking care of but the next month your charged again and you never get back to the same person you talked to the first time

Leo of Freehold NJ (07/11/08)
Aol has been double billing me for at least the last two years. I did call them about Fur months ago and got the run around. I just checked my June credit card statement and they are still double illing

Steve of Gahanna OH (07/04/08)
I have hade the aforementioned AOL account for over 10 years. I am not terrible computer literate, so when I bought a new computer, I was not sure how to transfer the account from my old computer to the new one. Through the new computer software, I opened a second account. In December 2006 I called AOL and finally cancelled the 2nd account.

Fastforward to May 2007. I usually notice an automatic payment to AOL on my bank account at the end of the month. In may I noticed one on May 7. I assumed they were just late in taking the money out of my account. On May 28, another $25.90 was taken out of my account. Another on June 9 and again on June 30. Checking back as far as my checking account online would show, AOL has been double billing me at least since March 2008.

I called AOL and spoke with Jane. She acknowledged I had called in December 2006 but had no record of me cancelling the second account. She said she would cancel the account. She refused to do anything about the double billing. At my request she refered me to the floor supervisor, John, who said as well, they could do nothing to help me. I contacted my bank and was advised that the only way to stop AOL from taking money out of my account was to cancel the card and have it reissued.

Since my bank statement is available only to March 2008, I can only say for sure, I have had $103.60 taken from my account. However it is most likely that AOL has taken $466.20 from my checking account for a closed account.

Kathleen of Whitestone NY (06/29/08)
I was paying for AOL dial up from 2002 upt until March 15,2006. I switched over to Time Warner (Broadband)of which includes AOL in it's services. This bill is paid by mail. Other bills are paid electronically automatically. Aol continued to bill me. Recently i transferred over balance of a cred. card to one with lower rate. Shortly after i rec'd letter from AOL stating i owe for service of June- as cred. card on file was invalid. I called only to find out AOL had been billing me (for dial up which i had had since early Mar2006-and they've been billing (DOUBLE BILLING ) me up until June 08 (which i wouldn't have known had i not changed cred. card)- meanwhile AOL service had been being paid to Time warner for Broadband.

I called AOL after reading the letter-and wanted to speak to a superior regarding a refund. I was told that AOL does not give refunds... and then i surfed the web only to find that COUNTLESS NUMBERS HAVE BEEN VICTIMIZED BY AOL - FOR SUCH FRAUDULANT BUSINESS PRACTICES OF DOUBLE BILLING. They owe me from Mar2006 up to June2008

i have Heart failure - and Lung Disease.. with High blood Pressure.. I'm confined to my home- and am in need of Oxygen - the aggravation that a company like AOL has been getting away with this for many many years only made me even sicker. I want my money back- WITH INTEREST and want to see them penalized under the scrutiny of an unbiased watchdog!

Michael of Grand Junction CO (06/12/08)
aol has been double billing me for over a year.

this has caused numerous problems in financing and budgeting monthly bills.

Cynthia of Antioch TN (06/11/08)
I was double billed for almost a year. I cancelled my credit card to stop the automatic billing and they used my other card (one I have given them the number of but no longer used b/c of the high interest rate) and they billed that card without my permission.

Stress - I was already not making enough money and was working 2 jobs - I needed the internet to work my second job typing - my life was already miserable and AOL only made things worse.

Luz of Bronx NY (06/10/08)
Today 6/10/08 I was reviewing my bank account with municiple credit union when I noticed I was charged twice for my aol account. One charge was for 25.90 and the opther was for 32.90. So I called and questioned why I was double charged and why two different fees. I was advised to call my bank and get copies of my staement and fax to aol and to send a letter requesting of them not to charge my account the fee of 32.90 which I should not had been charged in the first place. Then to have my bank call their company in regards.

I continued to look at my account in the previous months to see if this occured before and come to find I went as far back as April 4,2007. I need to go further but can only do it when I get to the bank.

I'm a single mom of two every penny counts when raising two boys alone. I've lost over 1,000. dollars in the brief calculations I did and still need to look further back to see where it started.

Gina of Sycamore IL (06/05/08)
I have been dealing with AOl double and triple billing me since 2003 I cannot even tell you the amount of money they have stolen from my checking account. I was told by AOL to submit all my bank records to prove they were even billing me, I did at my expense. Finally in 2006 they sent me notice that I will be credited 3 months because that is all aol allows. NEvermind I had been disputing it since 2003.

On 2006 the account was again cancelled by me. Now here we are in 2008 and I am still being double billed monthly. I get another representative telling me I wil be credited my money back in 7-10 days Guess what when I call to check on the status of my credit NOTHING all a lie.

The time and frustration and stress of money is overwhelming I have two kids and it is hard enough to support them with out someone stealing my money every month

Lori of Mountain View CA (06/02/08)
I am being double billed on my aol account for many months. I just noticed two amounts when looking at my bank statement while preparing my taxes. After reading all of the complaints I am freaking out a bit because it seems like AOL is not refunding any money to anyone. In my case, the amount ranges between $900.00 and $1000.00 which is a huge amount for anyone these days. When I called the live help, they gave me the same complaint number that is given to everyone. They also said that I had two accounts. I never authorized two accounts and I have been on aol since 1998.

Not only will this end up costing me $900.00-$1000.00, if I do not get a refund it will be very stressful. The work hours that I will need to spend notifying both my personal and professional contacts know that I am not an aol member is daunting.

Ruthann of Portage IN (05/27/08)
AOL double billed me on my account and said that they did not offer me a 30 day free trial, however; I still have the package with the promotion details. Then, they told me that they billed a month ahead of time and refused to credit back my account for the month of June they billed for when I cancelled my service today, May 27, 2008.

They have done this before and lured me back by offering a free 30 day trial period. I signed for the account Feb. 21, 2008 and was suppose to have a 30 day trial period- they charged my account March 4, 2008, April 2, 2008, April 23, 2008 and May 23, 2008 at $9.95 per charge.

AOL has continued to double bill my checking account when I only signed for one account with no other screen names or additional users.$29.95 is the overage, without giving me notice or my authorization.

Emma of Memphis TN (05/26/08)
I had encounted a problem with America Online with a overcharged billing error. As of May, 2005 AOL begins deducting two to three payments a month out of my account. Some months two payment was taken out and other three payment was deducted. This transaction went on for appromately one year before I discover that this money was taken out of my account.

I called AOL I was told by Janiser by phone that she will check into this matter and call me back. I never received a response from AOL. MY bank discontinue the deduction from AOL in May, 2006. Due to AOL illegal bank account, I was charged $800.00 over the amount due them. This was caused by AOL making multiple deductions from my account a month . While thery should have only made one debit transaction.

The damages that AOL caused me was multiple overdrafts in my bank acount. This cause me stress and hardship to on my other bills.

Irma of Pahrump NV (05/07/08)
They have been double debiting my account each month for at least the last 7 or more years. I've asked for my bank not to allow the transaction, but it does no good. I want to stop this. Can you help me with this? I am tired of paying for a service I haven't had or used in 7 or more years. I don't even live in state or the house where I had the service or the phoneline anymore to which it was connected. The reason I had it was so my daughter could do research for school. That was when she was in junior high. She is now in her junior year of college. I am a single mom and do not currently have a job. This is causing problems with my bank because I do not have sufficent funds to cover the double debit to my account. HELP ME PLEASE!!!

They are withdrawing $32.90 twice a month from my account. I don't have and can't afford $65.80 each month. As I mentioned above this has been going on for at least 7 more years. I think I have lost enough money.

Amy of Ponce Inlet FL (04/30/08)
I have had funds withdrawn from my account by AOl for the past 7 years against my wishes. AOL have also double billed (twice monthly) and no services have been recieved.

It is possible that over $5000.00 has been withdrawn from my acount over the past 7 years against my will. I have proof that $690.80 was withdrawn from my account against my will from May 24th 2007 through April 24th, 2008.

Edythe of Jamaica NY (04/21/08)
I noticed that I was being billed by AOL for service that I had not been receiving since march 2007. When I called to get a credit the customer service department said that I could not but that I would receive a form in the mail to complete. I had 30 days to complete the form. The form has not arrived to my address and 30 days will be up shortly. I looked at my March bill and not only were the funds not credited I was double billed for March 2008!

The financial damage is $4.95 per month for 14 months.

Otto of Middle Village, NY (03/26/08)
AOL has been double billing me for years.  I have called them a dozen times and they still do nothing.  AOL owes me about $930.  How do I get my money back?

Barb of Fayetteville NY (03/05/08)
I opened my bank statement 3/3/08 and saw a $25.90 amount on the statement which shouldn't have been there for AOL. I've HAD FREE AOL service through my Time Warner Roadrunner Service for over a year. So I called them and got some foreigner WOMAN named Grace who I couldn't understand. Since I usually had someone else balance my bank statement, little did I know this amount had been on my statement for at least 5 months. It formerly had been included in my TW bill with no problems. I told them to take the amounts off. She said she could take two off. I later found out she only took off one. Two days later I get a letter saying it was taken off, but I was still going to be charged that same amount despite a conversation that I said NO, absolutely Not. I live on disability. I can't pay Time Warner $44.96 and AOL $25.90 for simple internet service. The next guy also sounded like he was from Pakistan and was hard to understand. He finally set up the $9.99 plan. He kept saying I never called them to cancel them when I went with Time Warner. How come I didn't get billed for over a year then?

And then when I called Time Warner, the guy there said it was my responsibility to call and cancel AOL. I find this absurd, since I was offered this deal...you know this 'DEAL' with both of them PARTICIPATING. If someone drops out of the deal, they have to TELL me I have to contact AOL. I don't just magically know this.  A letter telling me this would have been nice. The last person I talk to at AOL was the nastiest. I hate AOL now. The next time I move next summer, I'm fairly certain that after almost 10 years of being a customer, I'll just be cutting them loose. They seem to try to break you down by keeping you on phone hold for a long time.

I basically lost close to $150 out of my bank account between October 2007 and February 2008. And I'm disabled. I live on $800/mo. I get Section 8 and food stamps. I go to food pantries. I don't appreciate having people basically stealing money out of my bank account without permission and me not having any kind of retribution.

Jennifer of Detroit MI (03/04/08)
I have emailed them several times, as they are double billing me each month for $32.90. I have contacted my Comerica where my account is and asked them not to honor their request for drafts from my account. When I try to locate the 800 number, it is no where to be found on their pages. I contacted them today, March 4, 2008, again. I spoke to Rep. Ivy and Roger her supervisor. Ivy transfered me because she could not handle my request for a refund on the double billing. I requested a refund and to have my service canceled due to the over billing. Roger told me that AOL cannot handle the refund, verbatim. I am filing this complaint due to the monies that are coming out of my checking account, and they will not stop taking funds out of my account. I wish to cancel the service which has been deleted from my computer over the last 6 months. I plan on contacting the Federal Trade Commission as well as the BBB in Southeastern Michigan.

My instructors in classes in the Universities I attend have all complained of AOL's services and practices of not being able to delete or cancel. AOL sends emails or pop-ups to get you to sign back on. It does not eliminate your name or phone number or another account in that name at that address. I am livid, and I want my refund and for AOL to please stop taking money out of my account!

They have cost me over $300.00 in overdrafts in my account which was for a prescription which I had to pay for. They billed me four times within four weeks alone, on Feb. 1, 5, 27 and March 2.

Jere of Amherst MA (02/28/08)
I have received emails from AOL indicating charges of $0.00. For years I assumed I had free service. I saw on my credit card that I was just billed over $200 for service. I called. They said I never called them to say I had broadband and to cancel my service. I explained I had no reason to as my email bills were zero. They said I could keep my AOL service and email for free since I had broadband, but I had to ask. They refused to send me copies of old emails (last 12 years) indicating my charges. They have been charging my credit card for years. I am sure thousands of other people are eligible for free AOL since they have broadband but have not asked.

John of Jamestown NY (02/26/08)
My American Express card was billed by AOL for $25.00 for TWX*IIA AIM CALL OUT on 12/31/07, and I never signed up for this service or authorized this charge.

I contacted both AOL and my credit card company. My credit card company has put the charge on hold and is investigating it. AOL sent me a form to complete and send back.

Donna of Mt Olive NC (02/26/08)
Our hard drive blew and could not be fixed. We bought a new system. Aol user ID and password would not work or allow us access. We had to create new account with new ID and password. This was in 2003. AOL has been charging my credit card for both accounts $23.90 per month. Have called several phone numbers from New York to Florida to cancel old account. They have been double billing me for 5 years. I finally canceled my credit card and got a new one to make them stop. Now they are sending letters stating they are assigning this account to a collections agency. I called them again and was told I have to pay or it will go against my credit. I told them how about paying me back the $1,434.00 charged to my credit card. This was contested with credit card company many times, but AOL always seems to get around the system.

I was over charged $1,424.00 by AOL.

Renate of Washington, MI (02/22/08)
Aol was charging me $6.00 to pay my bill with my checking account.  I was using a credit card, but they sent me a e-mail stating that I need to give update information, so I did. At no time did they tell me that there was a charge for checking.

I kept calling about the price that needed to be $9.95 and at no time did anyone say that there was a charge for checking. I will now look for another company, but I feel they are ripping the consumers off by not giving information.

Sarah of Snohomish, WA (02/21/08)
I canceled my AOL account over 5 years ago but was continued to be charged for some secondary account that I never used. I attempted to cancel that and collect a refund. That account was canceled and it reverted back to my main screen name account that I had canceled years before and started charging me again. This has been going on for years and I cannot get them to stop billing me!

$9.95 x 60 months is $597 that they have taken from my bank account.

Harold of Seabeck WA (02/15/08)
I found out by my bank that AOL was charging me 3 times in one month and 2 times in 2 months, so I called AOL on the phone and was told that it was not their fault, that it was another person using my info to have an account. But no one is to have an account except me. And the rep. who I was talking to refused to let me out of AOL or to reimburse me for all the charges and the bank fees. I only had signed up with AOL for a 3-month free trial period, and after that 3 month time they would not let me on my on line account.

AOL has taken six charges out of $32.90, and has caused four $35 overdraft fees.

Rochelle of Lexington Park MD (02/05/08)
I have been double billed by AOL 12/3/2007 and 12/31/2007. My billing date is supposedly 1/18. I have exhuasted myself tonight looking for a telephone number or online customer support for billing concerns for AOL. There are NONE. That is unbelievable to not have billing support for your own company. It isn't honest.

At this moment I am having anger management issues and potential physical damage to my computer.

Susan of Summerville SC (01/29/08)
I used AOL as my internet provider for a number of years with no problems, then all of a sudden an additional charge of $4.95 was being debited from my account every month for something called AOL premium services. It took me 6 months of phone calls and emails to get someone to cancel the premium service and issue a refund; this was Nov. '07. Then in Dec. '07 I canceled my AOL service completely, and of course I was billed again for AOL premium service. I have contacted AOL over a dozen times to get a refund again, and cancel this charge, but absolutely no one will help.

Since canceling my AOL service on December 4, 2007 (my service expired on December 11, 2007), my checking account has been billed $4.95 twice for AOL premium service.

Betty of Orlando FL (01/22/08)
Since Aug. 2006 through Nov 12, 2007, I have been double billed $25.90 for services. I canceled AOL Services and set up internet services with Bellsouth (now AT&T) on Dec. 12, 2006. After finding this out, I received another cancellation number from them, and a month later (Jan. 2008) found another charge on my account of $25.90. The Rep I spoke to (Ruskin Anto) said that I had two accounts. Why would I have two accounts? He stated he would refund me for only the last 2 payments and said that was their limit. (which has been done as of 1/16/08). There are many discrepancies in all this. I have all documentation and bank statements to prove withdrawals twice a month. I've since then written a letter to the billing dept with cc to the Corporate Office and a letter to Governor Charlie Crist's office.

I found on the internet where AOL settled Florida fraud charges, and the investigating attorney was Gov Charlie Crist. In the last paragraph of this settlement it stated: AOL has agreed to provide refunds, credits and debt forgiveness to all eligible Florida consumers who file a complaint with the company. I also saw where other states had the problems, also. Now, I'm waiting. Of course there is a lot more to my story. When I wrote this letter I had no idea I had been double charged. I decided to search out a few things on my account going back to 2006 and found it. I've learned a very, very valuable lesson in all of this. Review and study my accounts daily.

They've taken away hundreds of dollars from me that I was certainly in need of. It belongs to me ,and I need it returned.

Cathy of St.joseph MO (01/15/08)
I bought new computer in Jan '07. It had free 90 day trial for AOL .If you cancel before 90 days it was supposed to be free. Now AOL is saying I owe them money and turning me into collections--Allied Credit, I believe they said. My credit is excellent. Can they do this?

Pamela of Mexico MO (01/15/08)
I never signed up for AOL,and they charged my bank acct. I went to my bank and filed proper paperwork to have it removed. Then I received a bill from AOL. and I refused to pay it, only to then have collection calls start. I REFUSE to pay this; it has yet to show on my credit report, and I hope it doesn't. It's a shame I'll end up having to pay this to save my credit.

I was turned into collections; they could barely speak English when they called me.

Chris of London OTHER (01/11/08)
I was with aol for 2 years. Then some months ago I got an email from them saying that as I was a valued customer my aol silver would go down from $17.99 a month to $14.99 a few months. After this I went over to talktalk phone and free broadband. I was asked to pay $74.95 as I entered a new contract with AOL, I was not aware of this at all. I told them that this was not mentioned and told them I had the original email they sent me. Within an hour, my emails were closed down along with all my important saved emails. Then the account was closed down altogether. I got a letter on the 10th of January 2008 saying that they have been trying to get hold of me for 2 months and I didnt respond. I didn't get any letters until 10th Jan 08. In the letter it said that if I didn't pay within 10 days it would be sent to their debt collecters agency. I phoned them on the 10th and they have already done it. They won't talk to me as it's not in their hands anymore. I explained I had 10 days in which to respond and they said hard luck, they have done it and sent it to debt collectors. I've sent 2 emails and they won't respond.

I've lost important emails containing codes for software I have on my pc, about 10 of them I can't replace.

Jeff of Fountain Valley CA (01/09/08)
I was being doubled billed $25.90 and $9.95 for the last 26 months.

I addressed this with AOL, who was not able to confirm what the double charging was for or what account; they referred me to completing a fraud form. I believe the paper process is time consuming with no compensation.

Robert of Medford NJ (01/05/08)
I was double charged for several years and they continued to bill my card even after the account was terminated.

Cathy of Rockford IL (01/04/08)
I received a bill from AOL saying I owed them $104.00, and that I had went over the unlimted minutes! They started charging me $ 2.00 per minute. Then they withdrew from my checking account on, 12/06/2007. I called and talked to a representive who said that it was mistake and that she supposely deleted the charge of $104.00, saying it was a mistake and that all I had to pay was $9.95 per month.

One week later my account was closed by AOL and I received a letter two weeks later stating that I owed them the $104.00 and if I didn't pay them, that I would be put into collection. Now I am having trouble getting through to billing, and that they have a recording saying that all lines are busy, then they proceed to disconnect me. I am interested to look into class action suit against them.

I have much anger over this dealing and the taking of our money.

Tony of Old Hickory TN (12/31/07)
I have been double billed by an AOL for an account that was originally activated June 3, 2004 but canceled within the 30-day free trial period. In July 2006 this account was somehow re-activated, and I have been billed an additional $25.90 a month for service that was never used. There has been no activity on the account since it was reactivated. I called to inquire why I was being double billed several times, and was told that I was not being double billed. I sent a letter in July 07 with copies of all of my credit card statements to try to resolve the double billings and never heard from anyone or received any credit. It wasn't until I started reading online about other people that had double billing problems, that it dawned on me that maybe an old canceled account had somehow been reactivated.

I spoke with Teena thru the AOL online chat and she gave me instructions on how to cancel the account online which I did, but I need a refund on the charges that were billed to me in error. I need a refund in the amount of $466.20 for unused and unauthorized charges. I am sending another letter today requesting credit for the unauthorized charges but want to go on record with this complaint as it has been a very frustrating process.

Obviously $466.20 is a large amount to be charged without authorization, and the stress of having to deal with rude and unhelpful people who can't even speak English has been very frustrating. AOL should not be able to get away with this.

Michael of Mokena IL (12/21/07)
AOLcharges my checking account twice a month for different amounts and will not stop. I have paid hundreds of dollars since I canceled their service; I also have an account with a gym locally that is doing the same thing.

This has caused monetary hardship and mental hardship.

Kyle of Champaign, IL (12/12/07)
AOL has double billed me for October, November, and December, without warning or permission. I did NOT agree to this.

Mary of Blaine MN (12/11/07)
I have been billed for a past due amount that I do not owe. I was told my bank took money from AOL,so I have to pay it back. I know my bank did not take any money from AOL, they took money from my account due to another episode of AOL taking money from my account that they were not authorized to do. I was told this money is due them from 5 months ago, but I am only told this now. Something is wrong with this situation, and it isn't my bank, nor me. It is AOL.

Thomas of Cassville WI (12/11/07)
On the 10th of Dec 07, I received an envelope with a po box number and a city name. There was no company name. My name and town were correct. The po box was not. I called the 800 number and asked who the account belonged to. It belonged to someone with my name in Illinois. It may be a nephew that I haven't talked to in years and have no desire to communicate with now. The lady I talked to had the nerve to ask me to call him. I told her positively not. After thinking about this, I concluded that AOL uses the U.S. phone book and sends over due notices to anyone with the name they are looking for. If I hadn't hated AOL all of my 72 years, I might have thought that this was something I owed and sent them $41.90. I wonder how many people are paying the fradulent bills?

It is upsetting for a retired person to have to go through this.

B. of West St. Paul MN (12/11/07)
In November of 2003, my ex-husband and I separated. I called AOL to change the name on the account from his to my name since he no longer resided with me nor was he responsible for this bill. He then opened his own account through AOL at his new residence. For the past 4 years and 1 month I have been double-billed, once early in the month for the service under my name and again later in the month under his name. I was doing some investigating on another matter when I realized what has been going on. I called AOL and they have closed the his name account so that I would no longer be charged for this account but did not feel that I could retrieve any of the $1,600.00 that I have overpayed in the last 4+ years.

I have been fighting for the last 4 years to keep my head above water financially. This, obviously, didn't sink the ship but it surely hasn't helped the matter any.

Gary of Bryceville FL (11/26/07)
I have had an account with AOL for eight years with unlimited usage. I have received e-mails from AOL about DSL now available in our area, over the years . Four months ago when I entered my telephone number it finally said the service was available so I signed up. Once I signed with Bellsouth Dsl, I was told the service would not be available until 10/05/2007. Aol said my plan would change to $9.95 a month . I was not told by AOL that I didn't need their service or that my plan had changed, and I would be charged $1.00 per minute for every minute that I went over the plan.

When I had a notice on my screen that I had exceeded my minutes I notified AOL that my plan should be unlimited minutes. I was told that the problem would be corrected. When I received my credit card bill I was billed $89.95. I went on line and had a conversation with an AOL Rep who said I was going to be charged another $89.95, but he would credit that bill and change my plan. I got my next credit card bill and the charges were on the card with no credit. I called back and got nowhere with the Rep. I just received my November bill and have been billed another $11.36. Where can I go for help?

The dollar value is now $111.36.  AOL should pay for the mental stress and lack of sleep of dealing with this problem.

H A of Dana Point CA (11/23/07)
We canceled AOL in January 2007. We continue to be billed, twice a month for AOL service.

Year to date we are billed $259.00 and $259.00 again.

Christina of Trappe MD (11/20/07)
AOL has been very inconsistent with the date that they withdraw the monthly service fee from my checking account causing me to become overdrawn. In addition to this, twice they have billed me two times in one month. This happened in October '07 and July '07.

The first time I called about it they did not bill me the next month. They however would not fix the problem while I was on the phone. They insisted that I needed to resolve this through my financial institution. They also claimed not to have any record of double billing me in July. When it happened again in October, I called to cancel my subscription for the on-line service. They kept saying they could not find my account. Once they finally found it they denied billing me twice. After about a 1/2 hr. of persistence they finally admitted to billing me two times and blamed it on a technological error that had caused some members to be billed twice. They did not want me to cancel my subscription and continued to offer to lower my monthly fees. They finally canceled my on-line service. They said I would still be able to access my e-mail from another on-line provider for free. I'm waiting to see if I get any further bills. They did not refund my 2nd October payment.

Jean of West New York NJ (11/17/07)
I was an AOL customer for 9 years since my purchase of my first computer. When they offered DSL, I called to get it. (My dial-up bills were for $22 a month and change.)I was paying for DSLBroadband and a monthly total of approximately 55.00 a month for the last 2 1/2 years. I was having a lot of trouble the last 9 months and spent hours on the phone with different technicians going thru all the different remedy versions they recommended. All I remmber is calling every day and sitting at my computer going thru all sorts of solutions that didn't work.

Then one tech told me my computer was old, and that was the problem. I bought a new computer, and I still couldn't download a page. A computer tech came to my house and did a speed-test that tells you how fast the info is being received. To my amazement, he informed me I never had broadband to begin with. So, for more than 3 years AOL charged me for Broadband/DSL and I never had it.

Luis of Pembroke Pines, FL (11/08/07)
I have been double billed by AOL for two separate rate plans. They were able to acquire my card number, from another bank account, probably from an online purchase because it is not the card number that I have set my AOL account with. I have been charged $53.85.

Debbie of Rockford IL (10/31/07)
I am being doubled billed by AOL on my debit card. They will freeze my computer so I cannot get on, and they charge me 2 different prices.
This is making my account overdrawn and causing me not to be able to pay my bills on time because of the double billings.

Ann of Butler, KY (10/19/07)
I have been billed for two accounts even though I only opened one and canceled it before the 30-days free trial was up. Even after canceling the account I am still being billed. I was told I would get a refund but instead I keep receiving bills.

I have had to cancel my credit card to prevent them from billing it.

Kim of Lubbock TX (10/12/07)
AOL is auto-drafting monthly fees of $30 out of my two different bank accounts.

Israel of Phoenix, AZ (10/12/07)
I was a victim of AOL's double billing and "tough to cancel" scheme.  I started asking friends if they had the same experience and discovered that everyone I asked had been double billed at the start of their account.

Carol of Cincinnati OH (10/10/07)
AOL has over charged my credit card. They charged me $109.95 one month and charged me $39.35 the next month. The first month I called them and they promised to refund the $100.00 that they over charged. They did not do as promised. The second month I called and complained about both months and demanded the service be cancelled. They now have told me that they will remove the $100.00 (again) and refuse to credit back the $30.00 on the second bill.

Melissa of Hobbs NM (09/28/07)
I have been over billed by AOL, and I am having to jump through hoops to get a refund. I am tired of dealing with rude customer service reps.
I have been over billed by $77.70.  My checking account was overdrawn as a result, and I was charged two $35.00 over draft fees.

Troy of Dover OH (09/27/07)
AOL is billing me every month for $109.95 when my bill is only $9.95 this causes a hardship on me as it takes them up to 3 billing cycles to refund my money. Plus I have to call many times to get to a representive that will talk to me.I also sent multiple E-Mails to them befor I get a refund. so far they have refused to take that false invoice off my account.

In many cases it causes a NSF charged on my Bank account,as I am on a very limited fixed income. I tried to cancel my account with them, but they ignored my request. So I am stuck repeating the same thing every month.

Roger of Windfall, IN (09/04/07)
About three years ago I discovered that I was being billed for two accounts.   After working it out I was promised a $300 refund that I never received.

Once again I have been billed, through aol on my new account, for things I did not order.

Sandra of Charlotte NC (09/04/07)
I had to cancel my bank card and have another re-issued. AOL charged me for two accounts instead of one.

Robert of Cornelius, OR (09/02/07)
I have been double billed.  They even re-opened a closed account to re-bill me!

When I made a complaint they said they would only pay back two months.  As yet they haven't done so.

James of Detroit, MI (08/29/07)
I have been doubled billed by aol twice. Most recently when I was double billed they offered a refund. I never got the refund so I called aol again and was told the refund was denied.

Not only did they bill me twice in one month but they over charged by $5 on one of the months.

To keep my business, they gave me back the $5 but still I was left with an over charge of $9.99.

Anthony of Bend, OR (08/09/07)
I was a victim of AOL's double billing and "tough to cancel" scheme.

I was overcharged $600 in fees and overdraft charges.

Tracy of Nice, CA (08/08/07)
I canceled AOL service last year after discovering that I was being double billed. I have a cancellation fee on my account of $34 from 8/24/06.

Unfortunately I neglected to look at this secondary account closely and I just found out that they continued to bill me for an entire year. There is no way to get in touch with these clowns and I am very upset.

Alan of Garland, TX (08/08/07)
I was double billed for months by aol, as was my mother and father.

I remember setting up my account.  On the first try it appeared that the transaction failed so I started over and the second application went through.  The same thing happened when I set up my parent's service.  Months later we realized we were both being double billed.

I started asking friends if they had the same experience and discovered that everyone I asked had been double billed at the start of their account. I accused AOL of deliberatley double charging and was hung up on. I never got any of my money back.

Marian of Philadelphia, PA (08/07/07)
After AOL acquired DSL they billed me for two services which included the original dial up service and then started charging me for the DSL service. Once I took on the DSL service, the dial up service should have been cancelled. I eventually left AOL because of this.

Hugo of Jersey City, NJ (07/17/07)
I have been double billed $25.90 for 17 months. I called numerous times, and they will only credit me for three months.

I am on a fixed income on SSI. This has caused me much stress and has affected my income tremendously.

Linda of Woodbridge, VA (07/15/07)
AOL charged to my account, sometimes three times in one month.  AOL billed my credit card a total of fifteen payments even though the account was cancel by certified mail #0505764818.  I did finally receive a confirmation from AOL and I never reactivated the account.

I have been trying for years, months, and days to obtain my money because I am on a limited income.  The charges made my credit card go over the limit and I lost it.

Jennifer of Fairview, OK (07/13/07)
AOL double billed me several times and even charged my checking account for $79.95 without permission. I had to go to the bank and tell them not to let Aol put anything through my account.

Cheryl of Merrimac, MA (07/01/07)
I am also one of the ones that was charged for two accounts.  They have been charging my account $25.90 for 16 months.

When I called the girl told me that she could only credit me for two months.

Anita of Tamarac, FL (07/01/07)
This is pretty alarming and frightening and everyone needs to be alerted to the following. My AOL bills were being paid via automatic billing. I rarely check my bank info as there is plenty of money in the account, but one night I called my bank and listened to the checks that were cashed.

I heard the July check to AOL was $1700!  And $1100 for June.  In all they had deducted $5000 from my account.

I talked with a rep who tried to convince me that in May (I vaguely recall calling aol with a technical call) I had changed my $4.95 monthly fee to these huge fees of over 1500 a month. (Due to a problem I had with another aol billing 4/5 yrs ago I was given the $4.95 price forever).

It was not easy to get my money back, trust me!  It took me several months of lengthy phone calls and finally a VIP, of sorts, got my money back. I asked for some type of award for the work/effort/stress that it caused me, but all I was offered was a year of service, worth $120!

Josephine of Trenton, NJ (06/19/07)
I am being double billed by AOL and I only have one account. I am the only person living here.

I was being billed $14.95 a month and sometime in February my computer died. I did not stop service but it took several months to get it replaced and hence the $9.95 billing.

Now I am being told to cancel my card because someone is using my account.  IT IS AOL!

Danny of South Pasadena, CA (06/04/07)
I received a collections notice from AOL for the amount of $77 for non-payment of $25.90 for 3 months. The rep told me I had TWO accounts active with AOL.  I went into my old bank statements and realized AOL was billing me TWICE for TWO accounts I wasn't even aware of opening.

I've been a client of AOL since 2000, paying $14.95.  But realized I was also being billed for $25.90 for almost 2 whole years since 2005. The rep told me in 2005 I opened another account with a different screen name.  According to him, I used an AOL disc that was mailed to me.  Actually,  my account was opened with my sister's credit card and in 2005, I asked to change the billing from her card to mine.

I failed to realize they were STILL charging my sister's card and mine until December of 2006. The only reason they stopped billing me, for that $25.90, was because I lost my wallet and had to cancel my debit card.

Jennifer of Newport News VA (05/30/07)
I have been double billed for years!

Jonathan of Cadillac MI (05/26/07)

Aol double charged us for April 2007. Our bank got one of our payments back plus the over draft charges. Aol says that we are over due and they never got a payment. When they only paid us back for only one of the double payments. The guy said that there was no record of payment! We have 66 dollars in overdraft fees.

Lavonne of Philadelphia PA (05/21/07)

I noticed last year that I was being billed 23.95 three times monthly. I called and spoke to a customer svc rep who explained that I was being pro rated. I really had a problem with that because I’ve been a customer for 4 years. I signed up for unlimited service for 23.95 per month, so far I've paid almost $640.00 for this. I can't get anyone to explain this outrageous amount to me.

Karen of Memphis TN (05/03/07)
I have 2 aol accounts one for myself and one for my college student however I am receiving charges for 3 accounts instead. This has been going on since Nov 06 and I have requested a refund however to no avail I have not received it yet.

The damage is to my pocketbook. I am a parent of a college student and a student myself completing a master's degree. With the high cost of education who needs to be ripped off.

Eduardo of Kennesaw GA (04/25/07)
Aol billed my credit card for the monthly fee of April for 25.90. THey also billed on the same day my debit card for 25.90 five times (129.50), I have made countless phone calls to their customer service dept. and to their Fraud dept 800-307-7969 with no luck.

Walter of Lincoln RI (04/18/07)

We are paying for their services and they are imbedding advertising on our private email pages. These ads are distracting to our employees and invade the privacy of our email page. If we want ads in our mail we would opt for a free email provider.

Gina of Detroit MI (04/12/07)
I just checked my bank statement & I noticed a double bill from aol. So I went online to contact them, and your site came up. I had no idea how many people are having the same problem. I hope your company can help.

I have been charged a $25.00 fee for returned checks, more than once. Now I have to go check with my bank to find out HOW LONG has this been going on, & I WANT MY MONEY BACK! I feel cheated & betrayed by a company that I thought I could trust. It's enough to fight them to cancel my service, altho it would be an HUGE inconvience. So for now, I must alert everyone I know, with aol, to check their bank statements, get the word out.

Teresa of Orland Park IL (04/11/07)
AOL tripled billed me for 1 service. They billed my credit card which I subsequently canceled, they billed my mother's phone line and direct withdrawal from my checking account.

My mother called and cancelled the account from her phone bill and received a threatening letter to send her to collection and she asked to speak to a supervisor who then said nevermind because she probably noticed it was being billed from 3 different sources for 1 account.

I'm trying to cancel my direct withdrawal but the bank won't because they said AOL has to cancel it. I called to cancel and was sent to a recorded statement that was suppose to give me a cancelation number but when it said your number is... there was a blank pause with no message...then it said it cancelled as of today (which was yesterday 04.10.07) and to push the pound key to repeat the message or star to re-instate the account. When I pushed the pound key it just repeated with again no mention of a cancellation number.

Stacy of Chesaning MI (04/02/07)
My checking account has been billed by AOL 4 times within the last two months. That is double what it should have been billed. AOL has been unresponsive in my attempts to resolve the matter. I requested an itemized statement showing all charges and credits beginning in December of 2006. All I received was a printout of my charges for those months. It showed no payments. I was told by an AOL representative to take it up with my bank, although it is AOL's error. I have yet to receive the itemized statement I requested three weeks ago or a refund.

Mary Ellen of Charleroi PA (04/02/07)
I found out in March 05 that Aol was double billing me every month to the tune of 800+ dollars I caled in March 5, 05 and cancelled. They told me my husband ordered the second account he does not even know how to use a computer. Then this month March 15 I found out they where stil billing me for a account. I caled and the representative told me I would be reimbursed 466 dollars.

I waited for 17 days and contacted them today now they say someone called me in August 05 and I opened an account. First of all I didnt have a computer at all until March 06 and cancelled my phone line when my computer crashed. A total lie that they called me. Now they tell me there is no notation that they owe me 466.00. Since I talked to 2 different representatives that day and the second one acknowledged my credit. It has been removed from the notations this one said they would only refund me 6 months. They need to be held accountable for the fraud that they have been doing to everyone.

Mac of West Hills CA (03/26/07)
I just recently discovered that my dad has been double and tripled bill by AOL. We had no idea that this was occurring, my father is elderly and I feel that they have been taken advantage of. I am an employee for a different Time Warner Unit but would like to join any investigation so that I can help get my parents' money back. I believe they have been fraudently billed for 3 or more years. We had closed this account only to find that it was re-opened by AOL, my father was not aware of the charges. Even after contacting them, they added new charges to his account for this month. I fully want to press charges against AOL and will co-operate in anyway necessary.

John of Silver Spring MD (03/26/07)

In June 2006 I noticed credit card charges for an AOL account that I did not have. I disputed those charges with my credit card company and the credit card company stopped the payments. Then, I requested that my credit card company issue a new credit card with a different credit card number in hopes of stopping fraudulent billing. That did not help! Two months later, I was billed by AOL with the different credit card number and called to request that the charges removed.
I am now being charged for the month that follows the month that I cancelled the account.

Deborah of Fair Lawn NJ (03/23/07)

AOL has been going into our bank account and double billing us for services. We have been trying to get our money back for months now with no success.

We contacted AOL many times and had difficulties getting any answers. When we finally got someone who said if we send copies of the first month and then the last month of the bank statements that we were double charged, we would be reimbursed for the money *which the total amount was over $600. AOL landed up sending us 3 months ($40+) for years of stealing from our bank account.

Ruth of Milliken CO (03/20/07)
We have been double billed for almost FIVE years from AOL since our 17 yr old son created a new screen name on our account. We have called them repeatedly and were told that this was a fraud? case. I was told by one of the representatives that this account has been inactive for at least the last 6 months but our son has never created a second account so I am assuming that the account has been inactive longer that that since he has been on his own and never used AOL as his internet provider.

I am tired of paying over 50.00 a month for one account and have lost over $1000.00 dollars on this supposedly fraudulent account which clearly is another case of double billing with AOL.

It is like talking to a brick wall trying to get this resolved. Our bank says that we need to resolve this with AOL.

Judith of San Diego, CA (03/15/07)
AOL double billed me for 10 mos several years ago stating that I had opened another account. I didn't, but I gave up on collecting.

Now they have done it again by billing my credit card for a "free" account.

Tara of Pflugerville TX (03/09/07)

America On Line took money from my checking account with no authorization from me. I am the only one authorized to use my account and the name of the AOL account doesn't match mine. Every time I call or write, no one can answer me and no one can identify what happened or how they will correct it. $210+ has been automatically drafted from my checking account.

Richard of Chicago IL (03/09/07)

I found out from AOL I have more than one account but I never asked for it since every time I put an AOL disk in my computer I always click on current member.

Janet of Suffolk VA (03/08/07)
AOL has billed me through a OSI recovery debt collector for $95.60. I contacted OSI and they told me to call AOL.   AOL customer service was incompetant and harassing me to give them credit card or checking account numbers to verify the account. I would not give them that information and was told that they could not pull up the information without those records. The account that they say I owe is for an alternate screen name that was never even used.

The debt collector continues to send letters to me.

Twila of Concord, NH (02/25/07)
I have been double charged by aol for about 3 months now.  Every time they tell me it was a mistake and it won't happen again, but the following month it happens.

Micah of York PA (02/19/07)

We were getting billed two times for AOL service on two different credit cards. This was since 09/2005. I called to correct the problem and was told I could get 3 months back, then they said I could not get 3 months back. Upset I told her I would call back when I wanted to cancel service. Five minutes later I received an email stating I canceled service. I lost around $150.00, was treated poorly, and they canceled my service without my request.

Guy of Tarzana CA (01/17/07)
Double-billed. I spoke with representatives on 2 different occasions who told me they would definitely send me a form in the mail to fill out. I have not received the forms yet and I'm getting ready to make my third call now to them.

Anderson of Chicago, IL (01/16/07)
I started to notice that AOL was charging me 5 times in a month!  To make a long story short, the man said he would cancel all 5.

I continued to be billed after having received a letter that confirmed my cancellation. When I called again, a woman told me that the only cancellation that was made was a registration still under free trial, I was still being charged for 5 accounts!

$25 times 4 per/month and an additional $14.99.

Jo of Katy TX (01/01/07)

AOL has been billing me for two accounts. One account is legitimate, and the other is not. I recently learned that they set up an account on my alternate screen name and have billing me double for YEARS. I cancelled the account in October, and yet they continue to bill my credit card. Aside from the emotional damage, frustration and anger, AOL has refused to refund our money. They recently agreed to reimburse me for only 3 months of double charges.

Sharon of Powhatan VA (11/29/06)
My mother is 86 years old and has used AOL for about 5 years. My sister and I take care of her banking accounts and we have been unable to have the problem corrected. They say she has two accounts. OBVIOUSLY, they could look and see that no minutes are used on the 'so-called' extra account.

No one will help! They say there is nothing that can be done. This is only after having to be on the telephone answering everything except the number of fillings she has in her teeth. My mother has some dementia. As much as we HATE AOL, we do not want to change the ISP because it would be extremely difficult for her to deal with a 'change in interface' on the computer.

Sylvia of Glendale AZ (11/18/06)
I found that AOL has been double billing my checking account since 2002. AOL customer service has confirmed, but continues to double bill my account. AOL further stated that their fraud department would be contacting me, but this has not resolved the matter. I also contact my bank, Wells Fargo, and they informed me that they could not do anything for me that I would have to take this up with AOL. AOL has refused to contact me and refuses to reimburse me.

I have informed AOL of the financial hardship and they told me that matters would resolve in October, 2006, but they once again, double billed my account and I am having to force to close out my account. Due to the fact that I was unware that my account was be double billed, I inadvertently had negative sums in my account and was charged by Wells Fargo.

William of East Rutherford NJ (11/13/06)
I have been double and triple billed in the past for new accounts created by aol on my other screenames. and just today nov 13 2006 I realized I was being charged for aol call waiting and callAlert since 203 and 2004 respectively for each service and they said they would refund me $19 and change only because they said I get a bank statement and should have seen it was being billed. I have a paperless bank account and set up auto pay back in 2003 and had CCI as a phone service for a previously disconnected phone. Their call alert system does not work with that company based in Virginia and they never stopped it and have been charging me since 2003 and 2004 for bothe services...I am livid and want to get in this class action lawsuit.

Marlene of Aubrey TX (11/07/06)
I have been double billed for over a year. I have repeatedly called and requested that it be fixed, yet every month it continued.

I finally had to cancel my credit card and called requesting that both accounts be cancelled. However, I began to receive collection letters. I called 11/8/06, spoke with Robert who assured me he fixed this problem. We shall see.

Melissa of Milford CT (11/04/06)
I have been being doubled billed by america online services for 1 year perhaps longer as I have switched billing cards and noticed it now!

50.00 dollars a month for 1 year =600.00 dollars

Angela of N Kingstown, RI (09/21/06)
I was double billed for my internet service. I called and they said that they had been getting a lot of complaints and that they were sorry.

They said that I had another screen name account and must have forgotten about it. They had billed me twice a month for 3 years or more. I had direct payment so I really didn't catch on until I cancelled my account.

Adrianne of Washington DC (09/18/06)
I have been double-, triple- and quadruple-billed by AOL for months and they have refused to stop it despite my complaints.

Personal financial losses of at least $600.00.

William of Rhinelander, WI (09/11/06)
I have been double billed by AOL for over 6 months and cannot get them to stop withdrawing double payments each month even after repeated calls. My two accounts were closed several months ago.  Now, they have one of those accounts in collection even though they owe me several hundred dollars in unauthorized withdrawals and are still doing it every month!!!

I have lost $300+ in unauthorized withdrawals by AOL.

Judith of Berkeley CA (09/01/06)
Scammed! I was going over a bank statement today and realized I'd been double-billed by AOL going back at least ten months. It turned out to be two years and 10 months, a total of $880.00. I went through the automated messaging maze at AOL and wound up speaking with a fellow who, at first, wouldn't speak to me because he claimed my information did not match the information on the account -- even though I've had my account for 9 years, 6 months. Then, just as others have reported, he went on to investigate and learned that someone (Ma'am, does you husband have access to your credit card? Could your husband have created another account without your knowledge?) had allegedly opened a second account.

I went ballistic. As I was put on hold for the fourth time, I googled aol double billing and came up with this site and a number of others, and learned about the class action that was recently filed against AOL for this fraudulent practice. The fellow who was helping me said he could only credit my account $200.00, and that even though he wanted to credit me the full $880.00, the back end guys (gee, wonder how they got that name) would probably cancel his request. I'm furious. I want all my money back, plus interest, plus punitive damages. What is it with AOL?

Loss of $880.00 plus interest -- and a lot of rage. I will join a class action, but only if they agree to get my money back plus. I don't want any free services from AOL.

Elizabeth of Haleiwa, HI (08/30/06)
We have been charged a monthly fee, that has come out of a business checking account, that was never authorized. Neither one of us have AOL accounts, pins or passwords, e-mail, web pages or any such thing.  We have had our internet service through another provider---the whole time!

When I called the AOL fraud department, I was told that they could not look up our account information without the card number and expiration date of the card that was being charged. I told them it wasn't possible because the card no longer existed.  He insisted that I give him the debit card number.

This is already a nightmare, and cancellation of the service is an unnecessary hassle. Even if we wanted the service to begin with, I would never have guessed that AOL would be so unethical!

Jeff of Deerfield Beach, FL (08/28/06)
After I got married my wife notice that AOL had been double billing me for over a year. Called AOL to resolve but they said they could only refund me three months. Stated that I had two screen names.(?)

Bottom line -  AOL robbed me.

Garry of Los Alamos, NM (08/28/06)
AOL established a spin off account on my AOL account and charged me double fee for over two years to the tune of $600 plus.

When I contacted AOL, I got several stories on how the account was initiated, via phone, via web ect. They would not reimberse the charges.

Thomas of Rockland ME (08/24/06)
I have been double billed by AOL for the last 4 mos according to the Bank Of America and have also incurred overdraft charges for same in duplicate. The double billing and double overdraft charges have left me in a state of economic ruin and I am in a position both frustrating and tragic as I cannot afford to live on less than half my paycheck.

Emily of Turners Falls MA (08/02/06)
I recently discovered that AOL has been double billing my charge card since May 2006. I have tried every avenue I can think of to talk to someone in authority at AOL, however all I get is referrals to different departments and in the end get disconnected-with no results. If I have two separate screen names (which I seriously doubt), I would just like them to cancel the one I am not using, and to stop billing me for it.

I have been over billed $25.90 for 3 months for a total of $77.70, and have been unable to reach anyone to resolve the issue. I can't even cancel my account!

John of Austin TX (08/01/06)
AOL is at it again double billing customers for multiple screen names. This has continued for three months in a row even though they supposedly cancelled all of my accounts twice before. I have demanded that they finally cancel the accounts and credit the charges. From my prior dealings with this dispecable company I have no reason to believe that they will do it in the future.

Numerous economic damages including bounced checks of more that 3K dollars. Overdraft fees of more than $300.

Marta of Chicago, IL (07/18/06)
AOL has put a blocker on my ability to forward anything related to graphics, pretending it is "protecting" me when these are not advertisements.  Then they delay answering my calls for up to 40 minutes at which time they "accidentally" disconnect the line. This has occurred at minumum of eight times - I've tried to communicate over weeks.

Finally, they have no phones by which anyone can reach them. OR are so well hidden that the average person can't seem to find any.

Debbie of Grimesland NC (07/17/06)
This company billed me for two accounts for over a year before I realized it on my account and refused to reimburse me.

Mike of Houston TX (07/17/06)
For two years, AOL double billed me for one account for a total of $600 plus. It's the old you had two screen names routine. Nothing is ever explained to my satisfaction and, of course, nothing is ever resolved. They are truly the best BUNKO artists I've ever encountered. My experience is duplicated thousands of times from every corner of the country.

Harrison of St. Louis MO (07/15/06)
I'm being bill twice. Aol is billing my visa debit card and my credit card.

Joanna of Lubbock TX (07/06/06)
My payments were $17.95/month.  The first time after they took $35 out of my checking then this month they took out the $23.95 and this is not supposed to be the amount I agreed to pay. I only agreed to pay the $17.95 a month. I would like my account credited or I will cancel my membership with AOL.

Roxanne of Minneapolis MN (07/06/06)
I purchased a computer for my Father (who lives at a separate address) through Dell, with six months free AOL service included. After the six months were up, I was continuously billed on behalf of my Father for several consecutive months by AOL, using my American Express card number that I had used to make the Dell computer purchase!

My Father NEVER approved AOL beyond the trial six months and did not even know my credit card number to appropriate to AOL. AOL had simply stolen my credit card and assumed billing on the computer I'd purchased for my Father to MY AOL account. Double billing for both my service and my Father's began to appear.

Sharon of N. Charleston SC (07/06/06)
I have been billed $25.90 by AOL 3 times for accounts which I have cancelled via fax and telephone. When I first noticed the duplicate charge in April, I called and was told that there were actually 2 accounts opened on the same day with different screen names. The rep said she would close 1 account and refund $25.90 and continue my trial period on the other account and refund the $25.90 as well.

AOL did post 1 credit for $25.90 to my account billing on the original account.. I called AOL on 6/23/06 to ask why they had only posted 1 credit for $25.90 instead of 2 -told they had posted the credit but posted it to a 3rd account setup at the same time as the first 2 accounts. Why wasn't this account pulled up in April when I called to cancel the other duplicate account?

The answer was we don't know but we are billing you for both accounts again this month. Requested transfer to supervisor they refused & said they could not give out their representative numbers or supervisor names.

Linda of Mobile AL (06/29/06)
AOL double-billed me, once on the first week and again on the third week of each month. These were taken from my account through my debit card. I phoned their 888-265-8003 number and cancelled my services and advised of their over-billing. Afterwards, I opened my account with BellSouth. Lately I've been hounded with phone calls (rude ones) and letters demanding $39.80 AOL says I owe covering the time period between my cancellation order and when they actually discontinued my account.

Julia of Seminole FL (06/28/06)
I called them because I saw 2 deductions coming out of my checking account each month for 23.90. When I contacted them they said that was because I had 2 screen names. I asked them why they would bill the same individual for 2 screen names and they couldn't explain it. I was never refunded any money as they said that they had a policy that would not allow them to do that.

AOL Is double billing my credit card , one on 5/12/06 one on 5/30/06 an one on 6/12/06. I have called to talk to them about it but I get nowhere with them. I have talked to so many people at AOL, that I cannot list all of the names. I also signed up for high speed with my phone company. AOL told me I had to keep them. For 10.00 dollars a month. My Phone company told me the was not ture. So I Call AOL and got nowhere again.

Virginia of Pensacola FL (06/26/06)
I received my bill and on it as another charge for $7.77 plus another charge for $1.28 for fees and taxes. That phone number is 888-849-3200. I am suppose to pay $14.95 per month since I am a member of AARP and I had a private firewall for $5.95 but they were charging me $23.31 so I called ask them to cancel the firewall and give me Call Alert instead but since then I have called several time to cancel Call Alert and held the phone each time 25 to 30 minutes and no one ever answered me so I am going to tell my credit card that I am refusing all payments but I'm going to pay them$14.40 and that is all. Thank you

Pam of Smith River CA (06/24/06)
I was double billed by aol for over a year. I called many times and was told I was not even though I had my bank statement in front of me. Sent copies of bank statements to an address I was given in Florida, but have never heard anything. Changed billing account. I am now about to cancel AOL completely.

Timothy of Columbia MO (06/19/06)
I'am being billed monthly by 2 different departments of aol. They have permission to take only $14.95 monthly. They are debiting my account at will. I called & complained now I'am being billed weekly. They will not refund my money as promised. They owe me about $200 for all the unauthorized debits they have done. Many promises by individuals working for AOL to fix the problem, never happens. They started debiting my account for services I do not have for amounts I did not approve! Who needs AOL to protect us agianst identity theft, we need someone to protect us agianst AOL! how do they get away with it?

I will use my paypal card to pay monthly bills-I arrived to pay my electric bill only to find out later AOL took that money also! My electricity got shut off and it cost me $30 to get turned back on!

Linda of Jacksonville, FL (06/16/06)
I am being double billed by AOL.  I was billed on the last of the month and the first of the month.

I have reported this to them many times.  No changes and they deny it.

Jennifer of Waverly Hall GA (06/14/06)
AOL will not let us cancel our account and has been double billing us for over two years. I have been on the phone for 4 hours today to cancel our account. I have been told to call back in two hours, then I get disconnected.

Lisa of Springfield IL (06/11/06)
AOL has also been double billing me and I have not been able to find ANYONE who is able to help me. Also I have been trying to communicate with people who speak/understand very little English. Like several others, I am a single mother, and I have tried to cancel AOL several times, only to be given free months even though I specifically have told the operators that I did not want them. I never use AOL anymore. I have had SEVERAL overdraft fees also and am LIVID!

Thora of Lithonia GA (05/29/06)
TWX*AOL has double billed my bank account for over a year. I was also single billed for one year after requesting my services be cancelled on 1/4/04 and 4/1/05. I was billed up to 4/1/06. I have spoken with several AOL Supervisors and AOL Consultants disputing these charges and no one could explain these charges to me. I also have requested from AOL a written explination and I have not received one.

I am a single mother living on a modest income. I have experienced several bank overdraft charges as a result of AOL double billing and unauthorized charges. On 5/3/06 one AOL Consultant named Frank, informed me that I would have to bite the bulet on these unauthorized bank charges. My experience with AOL trying to resolve these charges has become a nightmare that has left me frustrated with many sleepless nights and so frustrated and my stomach in knots. I do not understand how AOL can get away with deliberate fraud and not be held accountable?

Juanita of Jackson, MI (05/24/06)
I have been doubled billed numerous times causing my account to be overdrawn and have incurred numerous fees because of this. This has cost me approx $200 in bank fees.

The only resolution I was able to get was a month free of aol (which they will probally bill me for later when they think I am not looking). This has occured with them for at least a couple of years.

Robert of Sherborn MA (05/22/06)
I have been double charged on my credit card by AOL for 51 months. On April 24th, 2006, I discussed this situation with an Mr Manpe, the AOL billing CSR, who reviewed my accounts and agreed to the second account being charged in error and that the acount reflects no activity for the period in question, and that this would be reviewed by his supervisor. The credit in excess of $1200.00 would be processed against my credit card in 2 to 3 weeks.

Monday, May 22, 2006 nearly four weeks later, not having received the credit, I called again to be advised I will receive a $100.00 credit against my credit card account buy must write to the AOL Corporate office at 22000 AOL Way, Dulles, VA 20166 for further inquiry. I feel they are now making me jump thru hoops to get my credit. I have informed the CSR during this last call that they have all the information of this issue and that I and very close to filing a complaint with the Consumer Protection Bureau of the Massachusetts Attorney General's Office.

Yolanda of Detroit MI (05/21/06)
About a month ago, I spoke with a representative from America Online that I was double charged for 2 months without prior notification. This also created an overdraft in my checking account. About 2 weeks later, I complained to another AOL rep about this. He reassured me that I would receive $30 in the bank, and that there wouldn't be any charge for this month's AOL bill. Well, on Tuesday, imagine my surprise. I was reviewing my bank statement when I spotted the charge for $23.90 for this month. I've tried to email the Billing Manager, only to be blocked.

No real consequences, but when attempting to contact the Billing Manager, my email was refused.

Charity of Sarasota FL (05/15/06)
AOL has been charging one of my credit cards 4 times per month and charges also another credit card since June 2005. I have called them several times to settle this problem. They are very hard to get hold of and if ever I spoke to someone it never get resolved. They finally fixed this problem in January, however, I was never reimbursed for the erroneous charges -- approximately $500 not reimbursed.

Gerald of Peekskill NY (05/09/06)
I also have been double billed by AOL. I found this out by reviewing my banking records. I can only go back as far as February 2006 from my bank statements, I will contact my bank in the morning to see how long they have been double billing me.

P of Micanopy, FL (05/06/06)
I received my credit card statement and found 2 charges from AOL instead of one. After several calls to Billing and Tech Service I found the 2nd charge was for going over the 10 free hours of direct dial in service (via modem, direct phone connection to AOL). I don't dial AOL via modem, I dial into another ISP and connect to AOL.

Not only was I charged an additional $39.99 on this statement, but they had charged me an addition $39.99 that had not yet shown up on my card. And I was on my way to a third charge for the June billing of $39.99. This is all in addition to my regular monthly fee.

Eventually Tech Support said there was a software problem that logged in all my hours as direct dial up hours via modem directly to AOL.  The best I could do was get a partial credit for services I did not receive. I lost about a day of my time trying to fix the problem. They over billed me $79.89 and will probably bill me another $39.99 next month.

Richard of Melbourne, FL (04/29/06)
Double billing for 1 year and 4 months, refusal of refund of more than two months.

I sent a letter to billing operations, and was told they probably wouldn't do anything more than the reps would, but I would receive an answer in two weeks.

$386.90 of charges, creating numerous overdrafts and charges, as well as lengthy phone on holds and disconnects.

Lynda of Harbor Springs MI (04/26/06)
Cancelled service in February and paid off account. I am receiving bills double billing for the service and AOL is calling my home phone a few times daily. I asked the customer service rep to stop calling to no avail. I advised I was being harassed, the reply indicated I was rude.

Fran of Brimfield MA (04/24/06)
I had been double billed for two years and when it was brought up to the AOL cancellation department, I was told that "yes AOL had made an error and I would be quickly refunded" It has been two years since that call and I have talked with many people who have directed my many letters, faxes, and e-mails to people who are "very concerned about customer satisfaction" to no avail. At this writing I am frustrated and angry. I am tired of getting condescending pats on the head telling me to contact yet another ambiguous person and getting no results.

$23.90 x 24= $563.60 plus interest for the two years. Not counting the reams of paper and phone calls over the years to try and get my money back.

Earl of Canal Winchester, OH (04/23/06)
I recived a free trial of AOL when I purchased a new computer from Dell.  After the trial period AOL began deducting $23.90 from my credit card account per month. Recently that amount increased to over $25.00 a month.  Then I realized the increase was because they have been double billing me every month since my trial period ended.

I haven't spoken to anyone yet but I have heard that AOL has a history of this dishonest practice. I will be contacting AOL to request a refund and to terminate my account with them.

Lee of Menomonee Falls, WI (04/19/06)
In September, 2005 AOL agreed to give me unlimited service for $14.95 a month if I agreed to keep their service for a year.  If I cancelled early or was terminated, a $25 charge would apply.

The trouble started in December when AOL said I signed up for Road Runner service, which Time Warner informed them wasn't true. Then AOL started double billing me for not only my unlimited service, but also for limited service (charged by the minute).  After numerous phone calls and service disconections, I instructed my credit card company not to pay them.

Finally, I got them to credit the limited service charges after numerous phoning, but they terminated me and charged me a $25 termination fee. Even though I paid this, their collection department calls me twice a day. What a nightmare!

Robert of Houston TX (04/17/06)
Entered into 90 free days with AOL & I cancelled, but AOL charged my VISA from the very beginning. I can not get AOL to reverse the charges.

Candice of Walnut Creek CA (04/10/06)
I have contacted then many times about double billing and have asked them to disconnect me to no avail.

My checking account has been charged for insufficent funds on way to many occasions and I will gladly send you a bill for highblood pressure meds and complications.

Julie of Sequim WA (04/08/06)
On 08/01/05 AOL debited my checking account in the amount of $23.90, and again on 08/22/05 for $23.90. On 09/01/05 AOL debited my checking account in the amount of $47.80, and again on 09/21/05 for $23.90. On 10/03/05 AOL debited my checking account in the amount of $23.90, and again on 10/21/05 for $23.90, and again on 10/24/05 for $23.90. On 10/24/05 I realized that they were debiting my account multiple times per month and I phoned them. I spent alot of time on the phone with AOL and all I got was jerked around, after several hours of this I was frustrated and just plain wore out from the incompetence I had been forced to deal with.

I did, however cancel my single service for which I was paying triple for and they had the guts to debit my account again on 11/21/05. At that time I was forced to cancel my debit card with my bank. I had only one service and I feel like AOL has ripped me off, and even more so since I have run into all of these similar complaints on this website. There is no talking to those people, whatsoever, but I would sure like to get back the money that AOL has stolen from me. I have my bank documentation to back up what I am saying if it should become necessary to aquire it. Thank You for any help you can give me, I have a real problem with thieves.

Economic Damage : There were two occasions that I became overdrawn and incurred a bank charge for that. Physical Damage : Just alot of anger and frustration at the amount of time I spent trying to recoupe what AOL stole from me, but to no avail. They just run you ragged until you just can't take the incompetence anymore.

Per of The Colony TX (04/07/06)
AOL - Double-Billing 1st. I did sign up for a trial account. After a short period of time I called to cancel, and in my ignorance I assumed I was done.
2nd. We did change DSL provider so again I was asked by my family to try AOL so we signed up again for a trial period. We called in and cancelled (we thought). big mistake. Now I am paying for 2 accounts that no-one is using, no note's anything from AOL telling me that I am still a member or anything.

Patreisha of Columbus OH (03/29/06)
I was a victim of double billing. I was originally only subscribed to be billed for AOL High Speed Internet, yet I found on my summary statement from AOL that I was also being billed for "Premium Services". The invoice never stated what the supposed "Premuim Services" were, and the only way to be a subscriber the services was to fill out a form, yet I never recived such form, not did I ever fill one out.

Theresa of Utica NY (03/19/06)
AOL billed my checking account for AOL music now service which I never authorized on 3/10/06. I accessed the account today and noone has used it. They are billing me $9.95 monthly. I sent an email and was given a number to call but I keep being put on hold. The number is 1-866-770-9450.

Cherlyn of Atlanta GA (03/11/06)
Aol put multiple chages on my checking account which i had authorized only for payment of the monthly AOL bill for Internet service. They Emailed me that they were adding the charges and when I PROMPTLY responded that I had not authorized the charges, even though the items had not been shipped, AOL refused to cance the sale and said I must return the items upon receipt. I received some of the items, others, I did not receive. I was billed for, and the money taken out of my checking account for all of the items. Additionally, a service charge was taken from my checking account.

Norman of Stone Mountain GA (03/08/06)
I recently discovered that I was being billed $23.90/month for the last 3 years under a screen name that I did not recognize. This was in addition to the $5.95 authorized billing plan that I originally signed up for. Whenever I saw the $23.90 charge I thought it was for overages and in fact was told so on more than one occasion. However when it showed up on my latest credit card statement, I called my credit card co..especaily since I had cancelled my AOL account sometime ago. and they said it was a recurring charge for sometime.

I dispute the charges. And was told by my CC co. to contact AOL, which is the most obstinate thing I've encountered lately, to discuss cancellation. The account has not shown any activity.

John of Westwood MA (03/06/06)
I have been trying to close out multiple AOL accounts for over a year. in each instance when I called I was kept on the phone through a series of long "holds" where the AOL customer service person was trying to "identify" my account. They are definitely employing a strategy to appear customer friendly but then keep you on the phone so long that you have to hang up to get on with other business.

Today, 3/6/06 I called and was kept on the phone for over an hour by customer service rep 'John' through a series of long "holds" where the 'John' was trying to "identify" my accounts. When he finally did, after nearly 30 minutes, he said that I certainly deserved a rebate of the charges against the the two accounts I was still being charged for but that he would have to put me on the line with his supervisor, Ashante so that she could help me. I was kept on the phone waiting for another 20 minutes, during which time john would come back on every 5 minutes and assert that "you must be very frustrated but Ashante will be right with you.

Ashante  wanted me to repeat everything I had said to 'John', a gambit she dropped when I asked her if it was necessary to repeat everything since john had told me he had already communicated it to her. She continued to obfuscate by reading boiler plate statements to me that attempted to lay off liability and to resell the product. I asked her to stop and told her that if she continued I would report her and AOL to consumer fraud organizations.

At that point she told me that if I wanted her to report the extra accounts to the AOL consumer fraud department that she would keep the account open through the 4/21/06 billing cycle. I asked if she was telling me that she wasn't cancelling the accounts that I had been on the phone for over an hour trying to cancell. She dodged the question and said the account needed to be kept open in order to investigate it. I demanded that she cancell the accounts and she said then If I wanted to cancell the accounts I have to report the fraud myself by calling the AOL fraud line. I persisted and she finally gave me a cancellation number.

Maureen of Merritt Island FL (02/24/06)
I have been double billed by AOL for three years...Triple billed for over 6 months!

I noticed the double billing over six months ago and tried to resolve it on line. I was told that they could not give me information as I was not the master name on the account, yet they were billing ME! I called and spoke with a gentleman that told me he saw that I had two accounts! I argued with him as I never authorized two accounts. He told me that I would be reinbursed.

At that time, he told me that he would give me a deal on my AOL service. $14.00 a month. I told him that I wanted to stop the payment from my checking account and set up charge of $14.00 to go on my Visa Card in case there was any other disputed charges. This past month I looked at my checking account. I was still being charged for two accounts and also my Visa account was charged!

For the last 6 months I have been charged over $70.00 a month for one dial up account! Since 2003 I have been charged for two accounts. I was billed in the beginning of the month and at the end of the month. I was told that AOL will only reinburse me for 90 days! I went to my bank and filed a report and told them to put a stop to AOL access to my account. The Bank said that they could only reinburse me for 2 months. This is apparently an AOL scam! I was told by AOL that they were mailing me paperwork to fill out....At this time I have received nothing.

Thomas  of Winchester KY (02/24/06)
Have been double-billed for two years.  They said they could not remove the second account, said I needed to speak with the fraud deprtment.  Tried but couldn't get through.  Gave up.

Cheryl of Douglasville GA (02/22/06)
I were double billed this past summer of 2005. Called to complain -- instead of refunding my checking account they applied this to my next AOL billing

Phillip of Crownpoint NM (02/22/06)
For two or more years this company charged us double at the same address. Our business was charged and our person. We started at 14.95 a month and they continually increased our cost I believe when we quit them the cost was 19.95 a month. One charge was against our credit card the other they deducted from our checkbook. Because we kept the books separate we did not catch this until two years passed.

B of San Leandro, CA (02/22/06)
I had been double charged every month since July 2005, when I signed up for my trial account with AOL.  One charge is going to my Visa and the other one to my checking account.

AOL sent me a notice that they cancelled one account in August, but they still continued to charge my Visa and my checking account until Feb 2006.  They finally cancelled my account in December 2005, after I told them that I was going to file a complaint with my California State Attorney and FTC.

John of Loveland, CO (02/21/06)
I have been dealing with AOL to get them to remove me from their billing and collections for the last 2 1/2 months.  I have never had an AOL account and yet I have been continually harassed to pay an account that I do not have. I have been contacted by mail at my address, with someone else's name on the billing, and by phone calls.

I have spoken to many different AOL employees who have all promised to have the issue resolved in, I quote, " 24 hours", "72 hours", "48 hours", "this week", etc. While the phone calls have ended, the billings still arrives and now with threats of sending the billing to a collection agency.

Whenever I ask to speak to a supervisor I have been disconnected or left for long periods of time on hold. Tonight, as an example, "Ian" left me on hold for 22 minutes and then I was disconnected. When I called back and told him I still needed to talk to a supervisor, he told me I had not been disconnected and then put me on hold again. For 27 minutes I waited and was disconnected again because AOL's business hours were over.

I feel it is time to contact the FTC.

Bette  of Tempe AZ (02/21/06)
Over a period of 18 months I was double and triple billed by AOL for so-called "spin off" accounts which AOL created without my knowledge and without my approval.

I was over billed for an amount over $400.

Teresa of Indianapolis, IN (02/21/06)
I have been continually over billed and double billed for years through my auto bank withdrawal agreement.

I have had verbal promises via telephone that my account would be studied and corrected while my banking institution threatens to close my checking account due to AOL taking payments at $24.95 sometimes just a few days apart.  It has totally ruined my credit.

I would like to cancel this service all together.  Their promises have been nothing but lies and all my checks are constantly bouncing due to their errors.

Richard of Suffolk U.K. (02/18/06)
Unable to find a site to seek advice from in the UK, I came across your web site and found an article; class action accuses AOL of double-billing scheme, A month ago [january 06] I was unable to access the internet due to password problems,[another ongoing situation with AOL]Icontacted AOL and was asked a number of security questions, one of which was 'how many accounts did we have with them'? Isaid 'one', as we only have one internet connection! They replied saying we had two!!

To cut a very long story short, having checked back over our bank statements, with horror I discovered that we have been double-billed for four years!! In fact since we had signed up with the company. We too had been charged at either end of the month and assumed that one charge was for the most recent month and the other was for the current month. After sending a letter of complaint, followed by an email of complaint, we have been told that the responsibility lies with us, but as a gesture of 'good will' they have offered us 191-00 GBP.

As apparently the period given for lodging such a complaint is 180 days. Needless to say we plan to dispense with AOL as soon as we have reached a satisfactory outcome!!

Jimmy of Cedartown GA (02/16/06)
AOL double-billed me for a spin-off acct of the master acct for my service... $23.90 twice a month.

Kristina of Cedartown GA (02/16/06)
AOL double billed me from FEB 2005 - Nov 2005..I called the fraud dept after going through layers of representatives and transfers from dept to dept. they told me to fill this form out/gather the information from my credit card and send it back to them within 10 days for a 3 month refund.....I sent the information within the time frame and never received the first dime.

I have been having billing problems with Twx*aol service. When I contacted aol and tried to find answers to my questions i get told they can't help me when i ask questions about charges being taken out of my sons bank account. I finally realived that maybe we had two aol accounts for some unknown reason. When i asked aol, they said yes we had two accounts. I wanted to find out when the account was started that had been taking money out of my sons bank account. They couldn't give me any info without giving the screen name on such account. I can't give a screen name on an account that we didn't even know existed.

Ron of Millville CA (02/01/06)
I have been an AOL subscriber since 1996. In 1997 I moved to Redding, Calif and opened a new checking account from which I authorized AOL to automatically withdraw my monthly billings. In 1998 AOL contacted me and pitched a new virus search/eliminate service which I signed up for at what was then $8.99 per month. I have been billed since then for the basic service @ $23.90 per month, the virus program @ $8.99 per month PLUS another fee of $11.00 per month. When I talked to an AOL rep about the extra $11 fee he said it was part of the virus service and that I should keep it active due to heavily increasing influx of new and more dangerous viruses. Now that I read about all the double charges and unauthorized fees, I think I am also being victimized by AOL.

Michele of Frisco TX (01/30/06)
I have contacted AOL since Sept when I noticed I was being double billed. I started researching and I was able to go back as far as June '05. I will have to request with the bank any further back. They have given me on $23.90 back and said that they don't see any other charges. I advised them I have all of my bank statements and willing to fax them in which I have and still have not received any other refunds.

Mary, Esq. of Honolulu HI (01/30/06)
In reviewing my credit card statements, I discovered that AOL had triple-billed my account for more than a year. I contacted AOL to no avail, and followed my phone contact with a demand letter on my legal letterhead. No satisfaction. In an old weekly periodical (November or December 2005 Time or Newsweek) I learned that a group of attorneys had filed a class action and was soliciting members in anticipation of settlement.

I believe that the members of the class had to be certified by February or March 2006. Feel free to share my name. I would like to be included in that class, and my letter documents the period involved. I don't have my letter in front of me, but I believe the cost of AOL's improper billing amounted to $1600 over a course of many months.

Kerstin of Great Barrington, MA (8/28/05):
I was double billed for my new AOL account in July of 2005. When I called to point out the mistake, I was told that I had opened 2 accounts - nonsense, since I am a one-person household with only one computer. For one hour 'Marissa' tried to argue with me that I was using 2 screen names - also nonsense since I was only using AOL to get temporary dial-up access, and I didn't need any 'screen name'. When she finally got tired of my persistence she offered the helpful information that my only recourse was to write AOL's corporate office. That I have done. We'll see where it gets me.

Consequences for AOL: Both accounts are cancelled (I have confirmation numbers). Consequences for me: $23.90 lost, an hour of frustrating conversation, and a lesson learned - not to ever again touch AOL.

"M" of Rives Junction MI (9/18/03):
I had been a subscriber to AOL for 5 years. I noticed in Feb., March, April, 2003, I was getting double-billed for one account. I contacted AOL, told them of the problem and was told that I could only be reimbursed for 2 of the months.

I cancelled the account in April and was still billed for services in May, June and July. I contacted my credit card company and disputed the charges. My credit card, in turn reimbursed me. Since then, I am getting all kinds of correspondence from AOL saying that if I do not repay what I owe, they will turn me over to a collection agency and smear my credit history.

After researching AOL billing problems on the internet, there were over 31,500 complaints of similiar problems. Research "AOL double billing" there were over 13,250 sites that stated this very problem. Most complaints were generated in 2002, but it looks like it is still an ongoing problem and no one seems to be doing anything about it. How can a company get away with this?

This could possibly affect my credit. I refuse to give in to AOL's threats, though. I can explain to any creditors the situation with over 30,000 web sites that support my complaint. If, in the future there is a class-action law suit filed against AOL for billing fraud, harrassment, non-compliance in cancelling their service, etc., count me in!

Jill of Carson CA (10/24/03):
I found out that I was double-billed $23.90 by AOL, from February 2002 - to October 2002. When, I finally caught the error, I called AOL and they said my stepson called and opened his own account. My husband and I both of accused of him of this and he swore up and down that he did not do it.

My husband and I both got on AOL, searching where he could have found any my information that would open his own account, like checking account number or last 4 digits of credit card. We found nothing and called AOL billing again. This time they said he opened a separate account with a pop-up screen. I told AOL, those pop-up screens are so annoying, why on earth would you have pop-up screens for billings? Plus, trying to get out of them you can click yes, by just trying to get out of them.

I have e-mailed and written, stating that I want the $210.00 check written to me for the double billing. I told them I do not want free on-line months. So far AOL has not replied.

Rhonda of Tucson (7/24/02):
I have been trying all avenues to contact someone in the billing department, as I have been billed twice for the month of May. Have had AOL service for sometime and am upset that they double charge people. What is upsetting also is that former employees say it happens all the time.

Kaloana of Foster City CA (9/4/02):
I had an AOL free account for 6 months with 2 screen names. I paid for 1 month service after that because I forgot to cancel it before the expiration period. When I finally did cancel it I was charged for twice for it on my bill - and told it was because I had 2 screen names, even though the allow you to have upto 7 screen names.

George of Louisville KY (9/19/03):
I have been charged twice for 5 months on my credit card bill. I have complained over and over. I wait for a customer represintive over the phone for over an hour, then they tell me I need to get online and fix my problem, I wait another 30 minutes for an online represintive. They tell me to call the 1-800 number, No one is able to help me.

Tammy of Newnan GA (9/17/03):
We have been with AOL ever since AOL first started. We opened our account with them way back when we lived in Alexandria, Virginia. We moved to Newnan, Georgia. AOL charged us for two accounts, for two years and they tell me that they cannot reimburse for that. I called numerous, numerous times, first to change address, then umpteen times to tell them they were charging my account for two accounts. They denied that that was happening, however, I showed it on my credit card statements and they, in spite of the many telecons, continued to bill my account.

I also called upteen times to change my address with them. I have been living in Georgia for at least three years now and they finally did change my address just last week. They also disconnected my service, due to credit card limit reached even though we do pay in full every month. Our check was sent for payment four days ago. I was given first a two-month award, then a four-month free award. However, yesterday, I received a message from them that I now owe $63. Two weeks ago, I saw on my account, on their screen account, a zero balance.

I have spoken to umpteen rude, very rude people, faxed two three-page letter complaints ~ all to receive no response. My husband (as I explained to them also) has been in a serious accident, needing eight surgeries and we have doctors in Virginia sending files down to us via internet. We cannot get them due to the account change they did us. I can't get through to these people. They tell me that I cannot be reimbursed for the two years they electronically debited from our credit account. Now we are being charged for $63-something and I have no idea what this is for. Nor do they.

So they leave me like this and I am still trying to rectify this situation, however, I very well know, due to my years upon years of history with them, that I will get nowhere. I get passed on and passed on and I hold for hours and hours, only to get rude people. I'm stunned that I am being treated like this and at the same time continue to be and have funds "stolen" from my account. I am at a loss as to what to do.

They continue to debit my account, I can't stop them, they won't stop, and they won't help me, they won't return the money they take from me. They have caust me $120.00 just in the past week for insufficient funds due to their wanting to take out more funds that were never and are not authorized. I'm at a point where for the first time, I am thinking about changing to another company, but somehow I know I will continue to be charged and they will not disconnect from me.

Damage Resulting: Bank charges of huge amounts. Not able to get serious medical records for my husband who literally has a broken neck. Our whole world is via internet due to both my husband and I being disabled.

Rebecca of Sandwich IL (9/13/03):
During a recent audit of my Capital One credit card statements, I noticed that for the last 6 months I have been double-charged from AOL Billing Center. I contacted AOL and spoke with Suprvisor Mike Barker to advise him that there has been an error. He stated that AOL added an additional account back in Febuary and that these charges were valid. I asked him to send me confirmation of this and he said I would have received an email.

They do not have record of my validating these charges! I checked my records and I did not receive an email. I asked him to tell me what the account was under and the validation process for usage on the account. There was none. The account has never been used. I kindly asked him to credit the invalid account amounts paid to them in the amount of $119.50. He offered me $50.00.

I asked him to explain to me how this occurred and he stated that it was a master screen name spinoff program and that I got a pop up in February 03 and selected YES to spin off a new account. I told him I did not and demanded to speak w/ a manager. None available. I told him I needed the name and address to write the manager of their service center. He stated he did not have that info. (I called back 1/2 hour later and was given an address and contact for another supervisor)

I asked him if he realizes that he was looking at a charge of credit card fraud and that I could prosecute. He told me to "go for it". I am FURIOUS!! AOL has NO RIGHT to charge for pop up errors! Shame on the Corporation AOL TIME WARNER for not accepting their error and crediting me.

Marc of Souderton PA (9/5/03):
AOL double-charged my account for nine months.
