I have been an AOL subscriber since 1996. In 1997 I moved to Redding, Calif and opened a new checking account from which I authorized AOL to automatically withdraw my monthly billings. In 1998 AOL contacted me and pitched a new virus search/eliminate service which I signed up for at what was then 8.99 per month. I have been billed since then for the basic service @ 23.90 per month, the virus program @ 8.99 per month PLUS another fee of 11.00 per month. When I talked to an AOL rep about the extra 11 fee he said it was part of the virus service and that I should keep it active due to heavily increasing influx of new and more dangerous viruses. Now that I read about all the double charges and unauthorized fees, I think I am also being victimized by AOL.

I have contacted AOL since Sept when I noticed I was being double billed. I started researching and I was able to go back as far as June '05. I will have to request with the bank any further back. They have given me on 23.90 back and said that they don't see any other charges. I advised them I have all of my bank statements and willing to fax them in which I have and still have not received any other refunds.

In reviewing my credit card statements, I discovered that AOL had triple-billed my account for more than a year. I contacted AOL to no avail, and followed my phone contact with a demand letter on my legal letterhead. No satisfaction. In an old weekly periodical (November or December 2005 Time or Newsweek) I learned that a group of attorneys had filed a class action and was soliciting members in anticipation of settlement.

I believe that the members of the class had to be certified by February or March 2006. Feel free to share my name. I would like to be included in that class, and my letter documents the period involved. I don't have my letter in front of me, but I believe the cost of AOL's improper billing amounted to 1600 over a course of many months.
