AT&T, which once had it all, planned to have it all again. "AT&T Broadband" was going to be the one pipe that delivered cable, Internet access and telephone services to the home. AT&T raced around buying cable systems for top dollar but has failed badly at integrating the tangled mess of companies and the entire scheme is starting to unravel.

Not surprisingly, the basic glitches with AT&T broadband break down into a pretty familiar list:

Here are a few of the more recent complaints:

Suzanne of Tahoe City, CA August 18, 2009

2wire wireles modem for DSL service went out suddenly after 18 months. After researching, numerous ATT users have had the same problem. One year guarantee of course so you have to buy new modem. But 99% of the time the problem is power cord. ATT should fess up and send out replacements. We pay enough for this product and it should last more than a year. Oh yeah, I had pulled into a surge protector although every ATT person told me the problem was pulling the power outlet in the wall outlet.

Kathleen of Frankfort, IL August 17, 2009

I would just like to let you know that I have been having a lot of problems with my High Speed Internet and the first time I called no one could help me because I needed to be at home for them to walk me through stuff and I don't get home until after your tech support is closed so that never happened. Now my internet does not work at all and I have been on the phone with customer service for approx. 40 minutes with no solution as of yet.

The first agent hung up on me (Ashley) the second agent could not hear me (Jean) and now Danny my third agent is trying but had to put me on hold to see if he can send me out a new modem and now has given me to my fourth Agent (Joan) who needed all my information yet again after giving it to the automated answering system, Danny, and now her. This is the worst customer service I have ever encountered and I am very disappointed that I have had service with this company for almost 3 years and have been treated like my service means nothing.

Terrance of Milwaukee, WI August 13, 2009

I am a current at&t customer on I recently called at&t to add u-verse and wirless services to my account and I was told tha because of my credit I did not qualify for the u-verse srvice and I would have to pay a 500.00 deposit for wireless service. I advised the customer service agent that I am a current at&t customer. The customer service agent advised me that at&t have different requirements they different services they provide. I have a good solid pay history with at&t. I also have atuomatic withdrawl, so on the due date the money is directly withdrawn from my account.

Bobby of Austin, TX August 12, 2009

I pay Uverse AT&T 200 HiDef/Web/Phone. And MY EVENING movie is interrupted with DOMINOS PIZZA. AT&T is committing VIDEO SPAM! VIDEO SPAM on HBO/SHOWTIME and the ONLY recourse YOU have is to call 800- and No One Knows How or Who will stop this AT&T violation of my right to see commercial free- I consider this criminal.

Enjoy Movies and Pay - but we'll stop ALL the tv's in your house with Dominos Pizza and 2 Litre Coke for 11.99

Anupam of Fort Worth, TX August 7, 2009

I went to the AT&T website to sign up for internet and home phone. They had advertised a 150 cash back on their website if I switch from cable internet. I confirmed that from one of the online chat reps and then went step by step as he asked me to. He also promised me another 75 cash back for signing up immediately while we were talking. On the AT&T rewards center only a 50 rebate showed up and I called customer service about it. They asked me to call back after another month.

When I did that customer service says I have to address the issue with reward center and reward center says I have to talk to customer service. One rep told me that I can either get 50 or 150, but not both, and the cutomer service representative who signed up my order signed me for the 50 rebate. Why was I given the lower amount/ Which assinine genius made that choice FOR ME? I feel cheated out of 150 for switching from cable internet and 75 for signing up while talking to a online chat rep.

Peggy of Hendersonville, NC August 6, 2009

When I signed up for Direct TV from cable I had to get a new computer service provider and they parterned with ATT. The rep was told I have a motorola modem, don't need yours. she said no charge, so here it came in the mail. that was early June. When I get my first bill there is an extra 10 charge towards a 100 charge for the modem. When I called to return the modem the rep said I had it too long. I only received the bill for that period. I want to return the modem, defer the charges and use my own motorola modem. the tech said they will not accept it now because its been over 30 days. well i only just received the bill. please help me with this. If this is not resolved I will get another proveder, this was the straw that broke the camels back. I vowed I would never use ATT again after the over-billed me 200 on my cell phone.

marc of van buren, AR August 4, 2009

Every month, for the past 10 months now, my bill has been wrong, especially in the area of our wireless phone. Excess charges are added by their representatives wihout out our permissions, and then we have to call up and get it fixed. We have only made 2 changes in 10 months to our account so this should not be happening. This billing never seems to be resolved and now they are trying to get 40.00+ from us for late fees or incorrect billing which is their fault. We also never got the 150.00 rebates we were due for switching to dish network!

Charles of Cedartown, GA August 3, 2009

Don of Gallatin, TN July 29, 2009

I place an order on 7/10/09 and was told that it will be done on 7/22/09. I told them to cancel that order and I went online on 7/14/09 and they tell me they can have my service hooked up on 7/17/09!! Then I get an email saying they canceled my second order and did not cancel the first order and it still takes over a week to get my DSL service. Then I'm only getting the 19.95 connection when I had ordered the 1.5M speed. Now I can't get anyone to call me back from AT&T, left several messages and no one seems to care!

Ken of Amory, MS July 24, 2009

our at&t dsl internet service continues to intermediately drop out. this has been happening for over 6 months. i have contacted at&t via telephone over and over...and every time it's the same old song and dance. they run "line tests", they send out techs, but the problem still exists. there is something wrong but at&t doesn't seem to get it...their solution is "we'll send out a "tech" or "we'll run a line test". they don't seem to want to find the problem. i'm at the end of my rope! help!
