AT&T, which once had it all, planned to have it all again. "AT&T Broadband" was going to be the one pipe that delivered cable, Internet access and telephone services to the home. AT&T raced around buying cable systems for top dollar but has failed badly at integrating the tangled mess of companies and the entire scheme is starting to unravel.

Not surprisingly, the basic glitches with AT&T broadband break down into a pretty familiar list:

Here are a few of the more recent complaints:

manuel of stockton, CA July 21, 2009

i signed up for at&t uverse under the condition i would receive a 200 debit card/ cash back. part of the condition was for me to download my rebate/claim form from the email address they provided but when i forgot the email name no one at att customer service could tell me the att email address they supplied to me hence i never recieved the money.

John of Harvest, AL July 15, 2009

DSL service was out for several days last month. First of all to get to speak to anyone, I had to go through long wait periods & had to keep giving my name & number repeatedly (they already know this information when the call goes through). Then after all this I usually just got a message saying DSL was out & it would be back at some time that it was never back.

After several days, I finally got a person who said that it was fixed, but there was still no service. Finally, after many calls, each taking at least 15-30 minutes and much later, it came back. Then I was told there would be a credit for missed days, but of course when the bill came, there was no credit. When I called about this, I went through another 5 minutes of typing in my number twice, getting passed around, & when I finally got to the billing section, it was 7:01 pm eastern time & they quit at 7:00 pm!

By the way, every time I have ever called the service number, the recording says they are experiencing "heavier than normal" call volume. If it's "heavier than normal" all the time, then that IS the normal & they should consider paying another person or two to field calls.

Jonathan of Vernon, CA July 10, 2009

Back in 2004, I was the Manager of Small Company and we were using another T1 service provider. In 2007, we had an AT&T rep continuously call us about DSL service being offered and how I can save 150 per month, but I was certain that DSL was not applicable to our area. I was willing to sign onto DSL service, although it is slower than T1, but since I knew it was not available, I told him NO. The AT&T rep faxed me proof that DSL service was available, so after re-confirming that the service could be applicable, I made the decision to switch over.

I received my service order and I scheduled to cancel my other T1 service to take on DSL with AT&T. Just a few days before my scheduled AT&T DSL connection/T1 disconnection, I received a notice from AT&T stating that, "DSL Service is not available." I contacted my AT&T rep and it was too late for anything, we were in our busiest season and I had no other choice but to choose T1 service with AT&T even more monthly service fee than previous provider; and that even took 30 to 45 days to reconnection.

Due to this whole fiasco, our company suffered in communication problems with our customers/vendors, shipping/tracking, maintaining our website, etc. Result in losing many orders due to the delay in communication. In January of 2008, our review of 2007 was a lot lower than what we had forecasted. and I had no other choice but to resign in February 2008. After my resignation, the company suffered more loss and was almost left at nothing. The owner called me back recently and I am trying to budget through and bring this company back on its feet. So I ask about to stop the service, cause it cost we can not cover it every month. But their answer is need to pay early termination fee for almost 3000. I really don't understand that who put me into a big big mistake but they don't want to have any reposbility about their wrong inforamtion to make me a mistake. Is that big company do to one small cusomter?...

Joe of Houston, TX July 10, 2009

we ordered the 6.0 mbps package some time ago, and have not receeived what we paid for. I just did a speed test at ATT's onLine speed test and the highest it would go was 300kb one notce above an ISDN connection.

I am taking screen shots and plan on calling the Attorney General of Texas to see if there is any other complaints pending. I also plan on filing a complaint with PUC as well as speaking with the US Attorneys office seeing they cross state lines and ask if there is a federal remedy against theft of service by the provider of that service.

Chinh of Houston, TX July 7, 2009

on early of Mar-2009, i called to AT&T to register for new residental customer - Internet Service. They gave me the account number and told me that internet would be ready within 1 week. One week later, i called them since no internet was available. At that time, they apologized for their mistake that the Account number they gave me belongs to prior owner of my apartment. So that, they gave me another number. Nothing happened until i received a bill for cancelling my first account.

I called them right after that, AT&T apologized and promised to solved that. One month later, the same thing happened, and i called them to follow up. Apologized and apologized, promised and promised. It lasts for 3 months. And now i received the Account notification from Debt Collector and they call me everyday to ask me pay that money. I called AT&T, but gone with the wind. I don't understand what the heck is going on here. Their mistake has created a bad credit to my account, together with all the wasting time, money and effort. Now i could not keep calm anymore.

Katrina of Indianaoplis, IN July 6, 2009

I had phone service connected between 4/6/2009 and 4/8/2009, to my regreat we had to move out on 4/10/2009 due to water damage in the home,I called At&t to let them know I was moving and needed to transpher phone services. I was given a diffrent phone number for the new address, the phone rep, tould me that the old number would be disconnected. We had to wate 5 days to get the new number activated on4/15/2009 due to the phone line having to be repeard.

I recived a bill from At&t for the old address for 139.40 I called to see what the charges were for,the phone rep tould me that it was a bill for the month of April to the end of may,I contiunted to tell them that there was no one living at that address,Ihave been at the new address since April 10 the phone rep looked up the account and tould that the old address phone number had not been disconected untill May10/2009 and that I was being charged for the internet and phone services for April to May and I am still reciving a bill for the old number, I don't feel I should pay for there mastake, Ihave tried to get this settled but am having no luck. I don't know what else to do, they have threated to send it to collections.

Victor of Calexico, CA July 6, 2009

There is a 9.60 charge on my phone bill labeled as Transaction Clearing, LLC. The detail says "Billed on Behalf of BILLWHITUS,INC." I called AT&T about this service that I absolutely did not agree to receive. They told me that this is a service on behalf of a "toll-free" collect calling service. There is no chance that someone at home would've accepted a collect call from any telemarketing service (or similar). They told me that if an answering machine picked it up, then "it was picked up and accepted". This is absolutely wrong and they will still NOT give me a full refund. I am not responsible for AT&T allowing this scam nonsense and should get a full refund along with a full block of these collect calling scams. I am a very unhappy consumer.

robert of Yountville, CA July 2, 2009

requested new Broadband Internet service, was not satisied with service. Sent back boardband modem, called AT&T to cancel service and since received bills. AT&T states I never called and canceled service in April and states I waited till June to cancel Internet Service. this same week I had Comcast connect to Cable Internet Service so I never used AT&T, but the Phone Line was active with out my knowlage. I told AT&T I refused to pay for something I never used. I belive I was deceived and Customer Service never stopped my service and continued to bill me.

Sia of San Antonio, TX July 2, 2009

AT&T sales agents kept calling to switch to AT&T for almost 6 months. Each time we aske them to remove our numbers from their calling system and they would not. Finally we gave up and did switch to AT&T based on the promiss that we would not lose our service and will be the same with lower rate. We were out of internet for 2 weeks and then the speed they promissed was never there.

We were on T1 and getting over 1.5 mbps and foe the past 6 months on the average is 30 kbps. Numerous calls to AT&T and no result. even one of them has told me to move out of this location and finally they told me that they can not provide any better than what I am getting since my location is at the end of the line. I am wondering, how could I get fast intenet connection by others that they use AT&T lines but AT&T can not provide the same service. This is the major problem compare to what other items the sales agents promissed and not delivered.
