I've been using Starpower as my server and although I've been very satisfied with their services, I found out they did not support Web Pages created with FrontPage 2000. I had created such a page and was keeping my eyes open for a source that did support this software.
I saw the comercial on TV about Online Gateway. They were not only cheaper than Starpower, but they did support FrontPage 2000 and the first month was free. I called OLG on 2/4/00 (Friday) and they said they said they would send me the software to hook up with them. I asked specifically if the first month was indeed free and I was assured that it was.
I received the software the following week. Since I was not ready to launch my Web Site created from FrontPage right away and since Starpower was so good, I was a little hesitant to instal OLG right away. I continued to work on the final touches of my Web and on 2/27/00 I felt I was ready and installed OLG. I kept getting cut off! I'd connect again and a few minutes later I'd find out I'm off line again.
OLG's technical support blamed this on my modem and how it handled switching rates. Supposedly if the line rate got too low, the modem would cut me off. This never happened with Starpower, however and by 3/6/00 (Monday) I had enough of OLG and canceled my account with them. I learned, once again, that you get what you pay for and I'm staying with Starpower.
Meanwhile, I was hooked up with OLG for 8 days andI see on my bank statement that I was charged the monthly fee of $14.95. What happened to the free first month and shouldn't my time start when I'm actually online with them? Not just when it was physically sent out? I have contacted them, via e-mail and explained all of this and asked to be reimbursed, but they have failed to respond.
