Consumer Protection for Active Duty Military

Infiniti Auto Sales

Fairfield CA

Ferdinand of Fremont CA writes (4/16/03):
I was shopping for a car at Infiniti/Volvo Dealer. Negotiations went on with my sales agent and the finance manager. They were discussing my application when I overheard a lady in the finance office (there were 4 - 5 people inside the office, the door was open and I could hear what they were saying about me). This lady said "Mr. CC" (that's my last name) "He's an O-3" (that's my rank/grade in the military). "They don't make money" and I heard laughter.

Then I acknowldge her and I said "Hello, I heard you". Then I walked out. I told the receptionist to call my sales agent. He came to me and I told him I was offended and I don't feel good because I heard everything you were discussing there. I am just buying a car. I don't need to be profiled or judge upon based on my job in a sarcasstic way. Being in the military is a noble profession. We're not paid that much but that doesn't give anyone the right to classify us by rank/grade and base our income on it and make fun of it.

I told the salesman that I am not interested anymore and the only way I would consider buying a car in that dealership is if the lady who made fun of my rank and salary would write a written apology. The lady - Tammy - called my house and work trying to get hold of me. She apologized for her unprofessional behavior. I told her I forgive her but I will discuss this matter with my commander because I am still devastated by being labeled and profiled based on my rank/grade in a negative way.

I am so proud of being an active duty Air Force Anesthesiologist. The Air Force helped me a lot with scholarhip and grant and paying back of Active Duty service for few years is the least I could do for my country. I am appalled by individuals who have no respect for the military profession. Her behavior was really uncalled for and I was really offended and hurt.
