Denise of Franklin NC (02/18/08) I just moved from Long Island, NY to Franklin, NC. While I was in the process of trying to find a moving company I went online and all of a sudden all these companies starting calling me. The one company in particular was Allstate. They emailed me a quote for approx. a little less than $1,600.00 They told me they would pack everything for me: clothes, dishes, everything. I was amazed, especially for that price--also boxes were included, so was gas and tolls. The morning they showed up they had my husband and I sign all these papers like receipts, so after they started packing after maybe two hours the guy came back in and said we had more stuff than he thought; after they packed the truck up they told us it would be about $4,500.00. We had no choice but to pay it with a balance of $1,812 due upon delivery here in NC. I called them before I left NY To meet me in NC; it took them almost a month to get my things to me. The day they called and said they would be here was Sunday Feb.17, 2008. The man came in, and before he moved anything in my house I had to pay him first. Then after I paid him he told me that even though all the boxes are marked they will only put our stuff all in one room and we have to move it, otherwise they will charge us more money.
I called the office and complained to a girl named Tisha; she said she would call them and straighten it out. Well they dropped all our stuff in one room, and I have to move all these things myself because I explained to them that my husband is disabled so thats why I hired them to do everything. Right before they left, the man came in and had me sign that I received all my things which I stated to him I don't know if this is all my stuff, and I don't know if anything is damaged. He said he had 1 more delivery, and they would not wait for me to go through all my things. So a lot of my husband's tools are missing, my Christmas tree and years' worth of ornaments from my children and my deceased brother with sentimental value are gone, among other things.
I let them know on several occasions I was not happy with the way they do business. One other thing: the last payment they told me they'd not take bank checks or money orders and no credit cards. It had to be paid by postal money order or cash. When the company delivered my things, they wanted me to make out the money orders to someone else's name, which I refused because I didn't hire this other company. So something isn't right with these guys.
They put me through unnecessary stress (suffer from angina already), and not having a lot of my things and having things broken or missing, is ridiculous. I never thought after paying that much money that they would treat us this way. What i want is to let them keep the $1600.00 that I have the quote for in an email; but since they did what they did, I want the rest of my money back. I will probably never see my things again. So thank you for listening to this long story, and iI appreciate whatever help I can get!
Zeny of Richardson TX (02/25/05) When we contracted with Mr. Don McGourty, who is an agent for Allstate Moving System to move our household belongings to Dallas, TX from San Diego, CA, we were not aware that they were going to subcontract the job to not one, but serveral companies.
When two men, the driver and his helper arrived at our apartment to deliver our things, the helper went through the bedroom to the walk-in closet to place a box as I asked him to do. It took him a while and only came out of the closet when I walked in to the bedroom. Without being asked he proceeded explaining what took him long. He said he couldn't find the tag number on the box.
After they left, I couldn't find my diamond wedding ring, with a current value of $ 2200.00, as we were getting ready to go out. I had a little safe sitting on the floor inside the closet at the time the helper went inside, where I always put my ring in as I did the night before.
I called the Allstate Moving System and talked with Mr. Mark F. and explained the problem. He gave me telephone numbers of two different moving companies to call and sounded like they released themselves of any responsibilities since they turned the job over to other companies with out our permission, if I may add.
The loss of my wedding ring not only caused us monetary lost.but, also years of sentimental value.
Joanne of Wallingford CT (11/21/03) I had a horrendous experience with the AllState Moving company (Florida based-Internet contacted). The move did not occur on time, the price charge was almost three times the original amount quoted by the Company ( and changed hourly by employees), items were broken, they did not weight the contents, the drive was also the person who decided the cost of the move, boxes were underutilized and I was completely ripped off from beginning to end. The people packing my items told me that if I tipped them big they would not inlcude all the costs of packing material. The most unprofessional, fraudulant experince experience possible. I have moved many times in the past due to being in the military. This company should be investigated for business practice issues. I hope no one uses this company and goes thru my experience. This particular move also got the truck into trouble because they were pulled over and cited at a weigh station due to a problem with their truck. They attempted delivery at 3am!!
Company said they fired their driver but made no concessions for the tripled cost of the move. They also did not respond to the allegation of overpacking by their employees and did not answer why they didn't weight the goods to get accurate cost/weight to move furniture. I think I know now - the more boxes they use, the more room it takes up on the truck and the more space to charge an individual for. They used one large box to pack 1 small lampshade (shade worth about $10) and then loaded the box with excess bubble wrap, packing papaer etc. The inventory did not represent what was moved due to the deceitful practices of the employees of this company.
