Allstate Express Moving

Dawn of Warrington, PA June 2, 2009

I was quoted a price of 1,275.00 for 500 cu ft after doing an inventory 3 times, to be as specific as possible. The movers came on time on the designated date of loading, and I showed the gentleman - David - what I had packed to be moved. After loading the truck about 1/3 of the way, he said I had more than 500 cu ft. My contract stated that once the loading started it could not be unloaded. I asked about how many cu feet more, and he said about 1,200. I was charged for 1,550 cu ft. The cost was 4,173.00. Of course they wanted payment onsite, but I was not prepared for that amount and told him I would express a check to the office. I had no choice at that point. Once we had the items delivered in SC, I was there to accept the items. When the truck was opened, my belongings were in a smaller space than what was shown to me originally.

I started to wonder, and the driver said I had "a lot of stuff and he didn't think it would fit into the shed I had". I rented a 10 x 14 sq ft shed. I started to do some additional calcuations trying to figure out what was happening. My apartment was a total of 986 sq ft; a 10 x 14 sq ft shed holds 852 cu ft. The movers began unloading the items and my son and I were rearranging the items to be sure everything would fit. The drivers were just piling things on top of each other without being concerned as to weight, or fit. When all was done, there was room to spare. I cannot understand how I was charge for 1,500 cu ft of moving space when all my belongings fit into less than 852 cu ft of space. I contacted the company by email twice, and by phone express my concern and disatisfaction with their calculations and monetary expense. I have not to this day heard anything from the salesman, or company. My move took place on April 27, 2009, and the items were accepted in SC on 5/3/09.
