Father & Son Moving

There seems to be a "Father & Son Moving" in every major city. We frankly don't know if they're related. Does it matter?

Katy O'brien of Jacksonville, FL May 2, 2008

(February 10, 2008) I was 9 months pregnant when we found out the house we were renting had a rat infestation so I called Father & son right away to get out of there. They sent two men that honestly didn't look like they could lift their own weight so I knew it was going to take forever! They absolutely destroyed the majority of my Ethan Allen furniture. They even broke a leg off a very expensive wood desk, but that wasn't the best part.

Once we get into the new house I realize my cell phone is missing. Of course we didn't have our new land line hooked up yet and I was really upset because I had no means of calling anyone if I went into labor. I thought maybe I had packed the phone by accident but my husband wasn't so sure of that. He continued to call it and low and behold Mike King (one of the movers) answered the phone and asked who was calling. My husband used some explicit words and Mike hung up.

After realizing that they had stolen my phone we had it turned off and bought a new phone with the same number. I received several calls from people asking for Mike after that. When I called Father & Son to let them know they needed to reimburse me for the stolen property they gave me the run around about how they were going to find out who did it etc but they never did anything. I filed a police report against the thief but it got me no where.

I gave birth 7 days later. I try to console myself with the thoughts that any jerk that would take n extremely pregnant woman's only means of communication pretty much has a one way ticket to ----. I will continue to tell everyone I know how down right evil the people are that work for that company. DON'T USE THEM FOR ANYTHING!

panic attacks, emotional stress, a 200 + bill for a new phone

Marge of Westminster, CO March 22, 2008

I hired father and son to move me to my new location i told them i needed a early time so the lady set me up for b 8-9 am on the 15th of march. well 9 o'clock came and no movers 9:30 came and still no movers so i called and was told that there would be someone out there by 11:00 a.m. well guess what 11:00 came and still no movers 12:00 came and no movers or not one phone call from this company so i called again.

was told once more that there would be someone there between 1-3 o'clock well guess what you guessed it 3 came and no movers 4 came and no movers so i had to call again, at that time i was told maybe 7 8 or 9 o'clock that night if i was lucky but was told that they most likely would not be there at all, so here i was no movers with a deposit they required. 50.00 I was in a panic. so i call reliable movers i told the man that i had hired father and sons moving and the first words out of his mouth was they never showed up much less calling you letting you know what was going on to my suprise i was shocked! he told me he would have a truck out there within 1 hour and there truck was these 2 men that moved me had everything out of my house and into my new place within 3 hours they worked their tail of and did a fantistic job. i called father &son and told them there services were no longer needed i hired someone else that was going to show up.

i have been told twice that my refund would of been refunded on the 17th of march i have not seen it as yet so i am going to file a dispute on my credit card, because i feel i cannot trust this company. i told the manager of father and son that i would not recommed there company to anyone ever, think they did a 78 year old widowed woman dirty.but from talking to other people i am not they only senior they screw and could care less about it.

p.s. reliable moving and storage was 85.oo cheaper than father and son.

Rosemary of Fayetteville, NC December 17, 2007

I hired Father and Son moving because their internet ad said they had been in business for years and prided their company on it's reputation and customer service. I was selling my home in St. Petersburg, FL and movign to Fayetteville, NC. They told me they would be at my home on December 11th - the 14th and they would call and confirm pickup and that delivery would be 4 to 7 days later and that I had to have a cashier's check, money order, or cash when they arrived at the delivery destination. They showed on December 13th with no phone call to confirm just the movers in a non descript unmarked moving truck and proceeded to move my stuff when I wasn't ready for them and ended up they packed my clothes on the truck and I had to go buy new ones. They then told me they would deliver on Saturday and I asked could they wait till Wednesday so I can overnight the money to my daughter for the delivery. They did not call they just showed up in Fayettville.

They did not call me just put my furniture in a storage unit somewhere in the city and will not tell me where till I pay for the move. I am not paying until I get my furniture~! I have called several times a day for the past few days to speak to the owner a Mr. Mike DeSilva and no one has called me back with where my furniture is, how much I owe, and where do I send the money.

They quoted me 2000 in the beginning then when they got to my house they said because I did not have the money for them it would be 500 a day to keep the furniture on the truck. This is outrageous! It was there error and they did not even have the decency to apologize! I am still waiting on my furniture and the owner to call Me!

Seth of Brooklyn, NY July 28, 2007

I have never dealt with a company that was as recklessly unprofessional as Fathers and Sons. After being given a quote and setting up a pick-up time, I was told a day before the scheduled move that the only acceptable form of payment was a cashier's check or cash, despite the fact that I was not guaranteed a price.

On the day of pick up they never showed up; after numerous calls to their office they told me they would be coming on Saturday morning. On Saturday morning when they did not show up and I called back they said that the truck was in Connecticut -- the pickup was in Massachusetts -- and they did not know when it would arrive to me. (This is the same thing they told me on Thursday.) They also said they did not know when the truck would get to its destination, and still would not tell me how much money I needed for them. It was an incredibly upsetting experience.

We lost several days of work, we re-arranged numerous activities, and we are now left without furniture. It was very upsetting.

Wendy of Chestnut Hill, MA July 28, 2007

The salesman, Joe, was very pleasant and made all sorts of commitments that he didn't keep. The truck was supposed to arrive on a Thursday, between 9 and 11. Although they knew early in the morning that the truck would not arrive then, no one bothered to call me. When I called them, they said the truck would arrive within the hour. When I called back in an hour, they said the truck was several hours away. When I pressed them, they said they had no idea when the truck would arrive.

To make up for this, they said they would load my furniture first thing Saturday morning. My furniture would be the last items on; the truck would go directly to New York, where me things would be unloaded first. That way they could guarantee the schedule.

None of this happened. The truck did not arrive on Saturday, I was not going to be the last on, and they had no idea when the things would be delivered to my son in NY. I would warn anyone to stay away from this mover.

Stephanie of Jacksonville, FL April 10, 2007

I called them out on 8/30/06 to moving my furniture from a townhouse to a storage least than a mile away. They arrive late. They did not wrap any of the furniture and stacked it any kind of way just to hurry up and get it over with. When I was in the process of taking the furniture out of the storage to move to my home I notice the Furniture was literally destroyed. I filled out a complaint form. In return they offered me 250.00 dollars which is not enough to cover one table they broke. I contacted the claims manager Dawn in Jacksonville Florida at the westside location who refused to give any more and told us to leave their property.

Joseph of Haverhill, MA August 31, 2006

I contracted a long distance move for 8/30/06. I did so weeks in advance. I spoke withMr. Howard many times to confirm and reconfirm things, as I was moving across the country. No one showed up on moving day. I finally called them late morning to find out what happened, and I was informed the truck broke down. My Dad called this man 3 times from Las Vegas to get more information about the broken down truck, which of course, her never got. My mom also called, and was HUNG UP on by the same man. After learning that I would NOT be moved on the day promised, and was told, if I didn't like it, find someone else, I went down to the office.

I walked into the office and asked for Mr. Howard. I was told he was not there. I told the 2 men there that I needed something done TODAY. I was told, Do you see a F------G truck in the driveway? I said what did you say?, and then I was told to get the F--K out of there! Both men came toward me and one of them put his hands on me, and I hit him. We ended up outside where I went PAST my car, as it is BRAND NEW, and I didn't want them to know it was mine. It didn't work, because they musst have seen me get out of it. One of them kicked it , and then picked up a rock to throw it. I went back and hit the guy.

Both of them were hitting me, and I was hitting back at them. They then ran back inside the office, and I went to the police station to fill out a police report, and hopefully I can file charges. I have had physical damage to my neck, nose, and head. I have damage to my new car. I also have a house full of furniture and boxes to go to Las Vegas, and no mover.

Matthew of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL June 29, 2006

Outside of being an hour and a half late for the first move of the day (scheduled to arrive at 7 am), two of the three movers did little to help in the move. In fact one went so far as to say in passing that there were too many fragile boxes, and hinted that if we didn't pack it, we're not responsible for it. That aside, the job was quoted at 5 to 6 hours, and needless to say after 12 hours, an 18% fuel surchage that was never quoted (equating to almost 120 for moving less than 1 mile), and almost 1,000 in charges, I sent them on their way. I refused to sign the order of acceptance, and when I called the company the next day to advise them of my dissatisfaction and find out how to file a claim for my broken items (yes, the mover slammed speakers and heavy equipment on boxes labled VERY FRAGILE), I was told by Robby You're just going to have to figure out how to file a claim yourself. Additionally, when I explained that after 9 hours, I got up on the truck to help them speed things up, I was told by Johnny at Father & Son Movers, that "Sounds to me that you were just trying to save yourself money." Yup. Can you imagine running a business this way? I was promised 5 'free' wardrobe boxes with the move....nothing....those were never delivered. These guys send out coupons in the mail, provided quotes on the phone and then lie about the quotes. They said that I never told them that I had a full garage, despite my calling them 3 times to advise them of that to make sure they were prepared.

Broken boxes, broken items, 1/4 of the items were left at the old house and I had to take an extra day off from work to retrieve.
