Upfront Moving & Storage, Inc.

Van Nuys, CA

Daniel of Los Angeles (11/18/03):
Upfront Moving & Storage picked up our 1700 lb. shipment at our house in L.A and promised to deliver it 12-14 days later in New York. Then they stopped returning phone calls. They refused to give us any information about where our belongings were, much less when they would arrive. We contacted the police, the USDOT (from whom we learned that they are not licensed for interstate transport of household goods), our congressman, and the Better Business Bureau. We hired private detectives to track down Rebecca Hansen, the owner of the company.

14 weeks later, a rental truck delivered 34 of the 43 cartons we had shipped, and none of the furniture. The insurance we had paid for was invalid, according to Upfront's insurance carrier.

Jerry of Fargo ND (1/20/04):
UpFront picked up my household shipment in Oxnard CA and never delivered it to Fargo ND. For 6 months the company stalled and lied -- promised to deliver my shipment but never did. My insurer just settled for the entire value of my possession (over $100K). Buyer beware!

UpFront Moving & Storage either lost, misplaced or stole all my household goods (valued at over $100K). Thankfully, I was insured; others were not so fortunate.

Douglas of Seaman OH (11/13/03):
The moving company has my belongings in their storage (CA) since April, and in August I requested delivery. They mentioned getting me on their next eastbound truck for delivery to me (CO). My stuff didn't make the truck, and unfortunately, it was involved in an accident (totaling the truck, I believe). After 2 weeks, I began trying to contact them for delivery. They discontinued responding to any voice messages, but finally responded to email saying the furniture would be delivered in 6 days.

I had a trip scheduled for that weekend (Sept 19th), and quickly responded, informing them not to deliver at that time. I was able to contact them upon my return (Sept 24th), and the tentative schedule of Sept 26-28th was relayed to me. Although I place many calls, and numerous emails, I never heard from them again until Oct 13th. When I had informed them (the week before) about my upcoming vacation (Oct17-26th). Oct 20th was their new delivery date (during my vacation). The next truck was Nov 4th.

After return from my vacation, I started calling and emailing a few days before Nov 4th. On the 4th I received an email explaining a delay, and Nov 8th was the next truck heading my way. I haven't heard from them since (today is Nov 13). They continue to charge me for monthly storage, and have never returned a call to me since early Sept.

Illyse of Van Nuys writes (6/1/03):
Movers showed up 8 hours late with minimal contact, and NO follow-up by the owner, who was aware of the problem. No return calls, except 2, and both calls were to give me misinformation about when they would arrive.

I lost 8 hours of moving time (time to have friends help unpack boxes and get me "settled in"). I lost the time I needed to buy some furniture and other items I needed as I was stuck waiting for 8 hours, not sure when they would arrive and needing to be there when they did. I spent more money for "professionals" than I would have spent on a U-haul, and it took longer and created more stress.
