CityPass Coupons Save Sightseeing Dollars

By Dan Schlossberg

Budget-conscious consumers can save sightseeing dollars in big cities by using coupons contained in a pocket-sized booklet that wont stretch the wallet. Most provide admission to top-name attractions at half the usual price.

The concept comes from CityPass, launched in San Francisco 10 years ago and founded on the premise that the metropolis is a theme park for all ages. Its coupons offer discounts to cultural and sightseeing attractions, transportation, and entertainment venues in nine cities with a tenth to be added this fall.

Featured locations are Boston, Chicago, Hollywood, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Seattle, Southern California, and Toronto with Atlanta in the on-deck circle.

Popular for their simplicity, coupled with their focus on famous attractions, CityPass booklets appeal to families, groups, and independent travelers including those on business trips.

The 2006/2007 booklets include a destination map and color photo for each attraction, making it easier for CityPass users to find desired locations quickly.

Among the most recognizable attractions in this years program are the American Museum of Natural History in New York, the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, the JFK Presidential Library in Boston, and the CN Tower in Toronto.

In addition to each venues most famous attractions, booklets include such value-added bonuses as discounts on Bloomingdales shopping (New York), a lobster appetizer at North End Union Oyster House (Boston), and samples of Ghirardelli chocolate and Boudin sourdough bread (San Francisco).

Starting with the companys 10th anniversary on April 1, CityPass ticket booklets will be available for purchase online, at the first attraction visited in each city; and at each citys visitor information centers.

CityPass tickets are valid for nine days from first use except in Southern California, where the booklets have a two-week lifespan (14 days).

The CityPass website contains brochures and maps available for download, links to featured museums and attractions, transportation guides, and insiders tips on the best times to visit. Also included is a pricing grid CityPass coupons vs. actual admission prices so that consumers will know exactly how much they can save with the booklets.

An added bonus on the site is the capability to take a sneak peek at every ticket in every booklet, so visitors will know exactly what is included before they buy.
