More about Apple

After standing in line for hours and paying as much as $600, some consumers may find their new iPhones vulnerable to hackers. Researchers at Independent Security Evaluators, an IT security firm, said they successfully hacked into a test phone, retrieving personal information.

The news may come as a shock to iPhone owners who are also longtime Apple uers. Apple’s operating system has never been considered vulnerable to virus and run of the mill hackers.

In fact, Charles Miller, principle security analyst at ISE, says the iPhone system is hard to penetrate, but it’s not bulletproof. Once a hacker finds a hole, he can easily take complete control of the machine.

Miller said he and his colleagues have notified Apple of the problem and suggested a software patch. An Apple spokeswoman said company engineers are looking into the issues raised by ISE.
