Gas Prices Headed Up AgainFive-day decline ends; national average price hits $3.618 |

The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline rose to $3.618, up .008 cents overnight. Diesel fuel sells for a national average price of $4.242, up .005 cents a gallon overnight. Mid-grade sells for an average national price of $3.844 and premium costs an average of $3.981. One month ago regular gasoline sold for $3.339 a gallon and one year ago regular self-serve cost $3.036 a gallon. Consumers are paying almost 20 percent more for gasoline than at this time last year. The record price for regular gasoline was set May 1 at $3.623. California has the most expensive statewide average gasoline price at $3.921 a gallon. Regular gasoline is averaging above the $4 mark in both San Francisco and Santa Barbara. The average price in San Francisco is $4.019 and Santa Barbara is $4.024. Wyoming has the lowest statewide average gasoline price at $3.448. Gasoline sells for $4.29 a gallon in South San Francisco. That is the most expensive price in the country according to Gaspricewatch.com. A gallon of regular cost $3.20 in Virginia Beach, Virginia. That is the cheapest price in the country.
